Default lowering springs and stock shocks?

what is the consensus in here:

looking to get some lowering parts for my wife's xB and she isn't the die hard car fanatic i am and i don't know if she can handle the ride of the Ksports. as far as i can tell the Ksports are the only coilover available thus far for the '08 xB. i have H&R on my R32 and the ride is super stiff and this is going to be her DD and she needs to maintain comfort.

also for those with just springs, how does the xB handle the winter weather on a lowered suspension....gotta keep her safe in the snowy mixes.

so:
Tanabe DF210's + stock shocks = or

Tanabe NF210's + stock shocks = or

further suggestions are welcomed.

TIA

NF210's and stock shocks will make her the happiest!
Cost effective, ride & handle great, maintain good clearance, and no need to play with adjustments.

thanks for the reply. i had already read your post but was trying to get some more info on which route is best for her. are you rolling on stock wheels? i'll be getting her some 17" rims with at least a 45 profile tire. any ideas on how much fender gap i'll have with the NF210's and that size rim/tire combo? IMHO, a 2 finger gap is perfect and i'm hoping that the combo i select will acheive this.

also any input on lowered xB handling in winter weather?

I'm still on stock steelies. Right now my gap is about 2 fingers on the front, and between 2-3 fingers on the rear. 225/45-17's will be about 1/10th of an inch larger in overall diameter than stock (about as close as it gets). If you get 17x7 or 17x7.5 wheels, I'd go with the 225/45's. If you go up to a 17x8 wheel, then I'd go with 235/45 tires.

For winter weather (I see you're in New York), you should keep the steelies for the snow season with good snow tires. It'll be much safer, and you won't trash your nice wheels with the road salt. This way you can also run a slightly taller and thinner winter tire which will drive much better in the snow.

good insight and thanks for the info it looks as if the NF210's are the way i'm leaning at the moment.

definitely keepin the stockies and throwing a set of snow tires on for winter duty.

anybody else care to chime in with their opinion?

I initially lowered my car with DF210s and stock wheels and the ride wasn't so bad. It was noticeable, but not bad in any way. After I put my 17" rims with 225/45 and 235/45, it too added another dimension of stiffness. I am running a mixture of Michelins and Perellis, so perhaps it could be the tires, but going from 55/16 to 45/17 IS noticeable.

I can only imagine how harsh the ride would be on 18s or 19s, but that's definitely not for me unless I was rolling on TRD springs. Since I was modding the XB for my fiance, I tried to keep a proper balance of form and function. In your case, I would go for NF210s wrapped in 235/45/17 on stock/comfy shocks. I don't even bottom out on my DF210s, so I don't see the need to upgrade to TRD shocks for your lady's DD.

And here's my 235/45/17 in the rear with DF210s. Check out this pic...

D_Unit: thanx for all the info now you got me to thinking should i go with the TRD setup and call it a day?

anybody have straight on side shots of TRD vs. NF210 drop? i don't think the drop difference between the 2 is that significant but i beleive the NF210 to be a better ride quality than the TRD or am i dead wrong on this?

Front drop is about the same (1"), rear drop NF's about 1.7" and TRD's about 1.5".
NF's about 5% stiffer than stock, TRD's about 10% stiffer than stock.
I have NF's and absolutely love them!

yeah i'm going to go with the NF210's for sure. only thing i'm hesitant about is the life of the stock shocks after the NF's are on. any opinions on coupling them with the TRD set? i'll most likely just throw the springs on there and keep an eye on the mileage and replace them with an aftermarket shock when the time comes.

also, i've read differing opinions on whether to trim the bump stops. so is it a yay or nay?

thanks for the info guys

Here is my xB on NF's I love them to death, I left the Bump Stop's alone and everything work's perfect! I live in NY and it feel's better than Stock over bumps and turns, Def glad i did not go lower. If the Stock Shock's ever go ill either replace them with TRD's or a nice set of KYB's But i dont feel there gonna go too fast ,it's not that Crazy of a drop.

Orange County is where i hang my hat.

i'm sure the wifey will like it. i prefer my cars much lower but then again i don't DD my R32 so i don't mind the uber stiffness of the ride, but then again even if i did DD mine i still wouldn't mind it

i'll post up when all of said parts are on the xB.
