Default HU advice

I don't know anything about car stereos so I thought I would ask here as opposed to someplace where someone will try and "Sell" me.

I want to upgrade my system but it will have to be gradually over time,
What I want to end up with is an In-dash CD (blue or changeable to blue LCD) with a remote(no wires), amp, 2 tweeters, 6 speakers, and a 10in Sub.

Because its going to prolly take me 6 months to a year to get it all taken care of everything has to be basically switch out the old for the new or add-on

This system is for personal use as opposed to competition so it doesn't need to hit 150dB

I figure the budget for 600 for the HU, 300 for amp and up to 800 for the speakers.
Does anyone have any good Advice? Thanks for the help in advance

get the new Alpine system. You can customize the colors and its definently a great value.

I am using Kenwood for a headunit. Couple years old but looks better than anything they have now. Panasonic door speakers and factory dash and rear speakers. THere is a 5 channel Kenwood map stowed in the spare tire area with a cap and the styrofoam bucket has been converted to a ten inch sub enclosure. There is a Bazooka RSW sub inverted there. At a bit of an angle so it doesn't look cheesey. I concieved a similar setup for a tC. My crew built that system. Picking a radio has to be the hardest thing to do for our cars since we were blessed with orange dash lights. My Kenwood sticks out like a sore thumb. I will be looking into Eclipse next time. Maybe the 2DIN with a backup camera. PM if you have any ?'s

The new Alpine CDA-9827 HU is only $270 and it plays WMA/MP3 and is XM and Sirius ready. It also has blue buttons and blue display and comes with a full function remote as well. I'll go snap a quick pic of mine for you.

Pioneer DEHP 8mp ~450
kit harness ~30
install ~45 sub total 525

sub setup 1 - tighter hitting bass
Rockford p3002 ~ 250
Amp kit 4 ga ~ 50
install ~ 60
Rockford PL1-112 ~ 200 sub total 2 560

sub setup 2 - louder and "boomier"
Rockford p5002 ~ 350
Amp kit 4 ga ~ 50
install ~ 60
Rockford PL3-112 ~ 350 sub total 810

dynamat ~ 180
enough for the doors and door panels

Start with the headunit and sub box/amp first then see if you will need to change out the inside speakers... I really feel that if the stock speakers were given a little more power like with an aftermarket headunit, they sound amazing...

I have a Clarion DXZ745MP. 24 bit DAC, 4-volt 6 channel preouts, internal amp bypass and the ability to change colors. It doesn't just change a few buttons like the Alpine, the whole thing changes. You can match the amber lighting the Scions have or choose blue, pink, red, green, anything you want.
