what are you running in yours?
I'd stick with the Toyota filter..the Amsoil filter doesnt have the valve

having oil where and when it is needed on cold start up is important...
the Toyoto and the K&N filters have anti drain back valves in them

There is no "best" oil for every application. Its not that easy.

it's not the filter being empty that is of concern...I dont believe any filter is ever empty
what the antidrain back valve..helps to keep oil up in the head..where it is needed upon start up
Sciond
I stand corrected...thanks pointing to the right place
I havent priced out all 3 of the filters
I'm wondering which is the least expensive???

Reducing wear is what leads me to choose what I do, regardless of the base oil (GIII vs. GIV)
I was thinking that it is best to get a few miles on the motor before switching over to syn oil. Certain components need to develop a wear pattern, ie cam tappets. Of course I am speaking from the prospective of building high output air-cooled VW motors. I don't know the specifics of the Toyota internals therefore for all I know it could be a good thing to use syn oil from the moment the motor is assembled.

Huh?
ADBV do not allow oil to drain out of the filter through the oil pump when the engine is stopped. They don’t "keep oil up in the head".
When the engine is next started, oil must refill the filter before full oil pressure reaches the engine. The anti-drainback valve, included in the filter when required, prevents oil from draining out of the filter. This ADBV is actually a rubber flap that covers the inside of the inlet holes of the filter. When the oil pump starts pumping oil, the pressure will unseat the flap. The purpose of this valve is to keep the oil filter filled at all times, so when the engine is started there will be an almost instantaneous supply of oil to the engine.
But because of the way the filter mounts, the ADBV has no benefit in our application.
