Default **Does remote start mess with the car?!**

I am getting an alarm system and I need to decide whether I want to get the remote start installed too.

I know very little in regards to remote start/alarm systems so I was wondering if it in ANY WAY messed with the engine. I am asking this because I have had issues with valve sticking in the stock motor and now I am having S/C issues as well as cold start issues.

Thanks for the input!

As far as the engine is concerned there is no difference in starting the car remotely then starting it with a key.

Just make sure they hook up starter kill, and the anti grind. This way when you put the key in the ignition and accidentally turn it too far it will not grind the starter. Is your car an auto?

Never mind I saw you put it was an auto... didn't read down that far lol. A lot are very similar just dont get the cheap 50 dollar ones from autozone lol. I always enjoyed the Viper brand for installing. You will need a xk05 module or a 556uw with a spare key inside. These will trick the ignition into thinking the key is in the cylinder when you go to remote start the vehicle. You can also do proximity sensors so if someone comes too close to your car it will go off. A glass break sensor, a tilt sensor... so if someone tries to toe it past a certain degree it will go off. And tons more!!!

okay claudia, let me put it to you this way...

if you get into your car, and start it, and let it sit there and idle, will anything happen to it?

if you get in your car and start it, and then get up and stand next to it, while letting it idle, will anything happen to it?

if you get in your car and start it, and get up, go inside and let it idle while you drink a cup of coffee. will anything happend to it?

so now, you have a remote on your key chain, that lets you sit inside your warm house/apartment/whatever, and starts your car for you on a cold winter day and starts warming up while you finish your moring cup of coffee (or whatever you drink in the morning).

a remote start is alot like remote keyless entry. only instead of pressing a button and a radio receiver getting the signal and unlocking/locking your doors, it gets a signal to start the engine.

no C, it's just like the key bein in ur car......if they install it right to monitor your tach, it'll monitor the cranking from the starter and kill the starter and leave the engine running....hope that makes sense

Ive got the Viper 791XV. cost me like 800 total for the alarm and install but worth it. Just it takes up alot o batteries on the remote. Lasts for like a month before change up. Also I got extra parts i ordered for it. a radar sensor if ppl get too close and a voice module so it can talk Oh if u get this use only really expensive batteries for remote ill last longer. and make a note to put in your glovebox where the valet switch is.. i forgot mine,........ lol

put the remote start module in the glove box???

I thought it had to be close to the ignition so like under the steering wheel?

its a switch you use when you let someone use your car or something. or a kill switch when you take your car to the shop for repairs so the alarm doesnt go off when they work on it or remote start when the battery is disconnected and reconnected

I agree with everyone else that a remote start will not hurt the motor as long as it is installed properly. If installed improperly then there is a small possibility of the starter to continue to crank. I would buy a quality unit and ask them to hook up the tach wire and not to hook it up for voltage.

thats the key bypass. the ECU on the tC is behind the glovebox thats where i mounted mine

also (you probably got it already) i put my valet/program switch in the top or the little console infront of the shifter, under the heat controls. the point is to make it inconspicuous.

9 hours? wow. i had alot more then that. but then again it was my first full install. my issue was the relay for the 2nd starter. i originally had it hooked up wrong and kept shorting and blowing fuses. that took me over an hour to figure out.
