I was wondering if you would still need the immobilizer chip inside the ignition if the car was started with remote start. Does anyone know?

best buy has an 80 dollar module that clones the chip ID so you don't lose a key when you do a remote start. the only issue is best buy has to install the proper software for you vehicle, and the module's not exactly fun to install. if done wrong it can erase all chip IDs from some vehicles.

556u is basically a storage box that you have to stick one of your keys in.. typically the valet key, the xk05 is the module that clones the key ID

you do need two keys to program the xk05 after flashing it

yeah unfortunately you need the bypass kit (556u/556uw). i have this kind of alarm in my tc, and i just used my valet key.

as did i originally, but now with that xk05 module you get to keep all of your keys.. it just takes longer to install. luckily.. and not so lucky, the xb2 doesn't have chipped keys, it took a little bit of rigging but while installing my remote start i was able to hot wire it :\

no, the modules only power up when the remote start is activated

i have the bypass so you can just program the key to it, but i haven't installed it in my car yet because i've been lagging it but when i used to work for a company installing them, it seemed much better than just looking for a really really good place to hide the key. you can buy it online or call this company who is the one that makes it.

no problem, it all depends on the installer really... it can take anywhere from 2 and a half hours to all day haha

L337Biker also knows what he is talking about. 05_TRC_tC, installation depends on how well you where which wires are which with a test light, but i'll say a good 2-3 hrs on a well clean job.

I have the 556u in my car. I used one of the master key. But when you put it in the casing, you have to clip off the ends of the 556u casing just to get the key to fit. Not sure if you can use the valet key instead of the master. I still think you need some sorta key in the ignition because if i don't put a key in it, i can still get off on first gear and all but the steering wheel locks up and once i hit the brakes, the engine dies.

actually best buy had an employee die about 6 months ago due to airbag deployment.. idiot was stripping/testing/popping wires trying to find speaker wires...

probably the biggest pain about the install will be working around the knee airbag. luckily there aren't too many other wires required to make an alarm work in the tc.. door triggers and lock/unlock pulse.. flashing lights if you want, that kinda deal. it's just testing the wires and making sure they're correct

you can use the valet key, that's what was done in mine originally.. it starts the car so it'll start the car w/ the 556u

well yeah, take it somewhere reputable. best buy circuit city ultimate electronics whatever. a place that's gonna be around in a few years, have some sort of guarantee, an insurance company to handle any damages.

Half of the repair work we perform at my best buy, was done by a local car audio shop w/ 5 locations that went down the tubes because the owner was snorting away his profits from what i've heard ;)

that is correct, take it some shop that has been around for a few years and make sure that they are liable for if they burn the brain or if some goes wrong during installation you know. even if it's a shop you know that might over charge alot but get it done the right way and the first time because this is something you don't want to mess up overall.

best buy did my 771,took about 8 hours but it was the week after christmas so they were very busy


They used the xk05 and everything still works ,the flashing starter imobilizer flashes when the car is off and turns off when a key is put in

since i have scion security will they charge extra to take out the stock alarm, or will best buy wont even touch it?

the scion security from what i've been told is just a glass break sensor.. so it shouldn't be too difficult to remove.

Can you tell them to use the stock shock sensor with the one they are about to install so you have two shock sensor in two zones? BTW, where are you guys mounting the sensors? I tried doing the firewall but not much luck. And also... a hard surface of a fat harness? Hahah.

zip tie it to a bunch of wires but make sure it's not gonna be loose.

the DEI shock sensor on the 771/5900/791 is probably 50 times better than the scion security one and fully adjustable. it's kinda pointless to have two if one does the job. it's zip tied to the ignition harness in my xb and was in my tc too. worked quite well

i'm an installer for best buy in american fork utah, and i've done about a million remote starts in my day, including my own and 3 other tC's of my co-workers

xk05 module is golden... requires only 1 key to program, takes 2 minutes to flash for the proper firmware, and install is pretty cake.

if you have scionsecurity there may be an extra charge, ( $18 ) at the most for them to hook up the "alarm disarm" to the keysense wire so your alarm doesn't go nuts as the car starts.

you get to keep your key, and the integrity of the immobilizer system (meaning you'll still need a key with a programmed chip to start the car)

depending on the remote start you want and how much range you're really after, i tied the "activation input" wire into my factory key, so you hit lock 3 times and shazaam. not exactly the longest range ever, but beats having a slew of key fobs in my pocket.
