Default Problem after installing new tires (Kumho ASX!)

I recently purchased four Kumho ASX from Discount Tire Direct and had a local shop mount and balance them for me last Tuesday. I drove the car to work later that day and noticed a bad wheel shimmy over 65mph. I figured it was just a balancing problem,so I took it back to the shop the next day and the mechanic re-balanced them, 3 out of 4 tires were off and needed the weights reset! The re-balance helped alot but it was still not perfect! I have been driving the car for about 5 days now since then and it seems like the ride is getting better a little bit each day,but I'm still having a problem when going over 70-75mph! At high speeds it feels like the front wheels are just kinda floating down the road and the wheel just does not feel sure footed like it did when I had the stock Bridgestones on. I'm just trying to determine if it's a balancing problem, alighnment problem, or defective tires? I don't believe it's alighnment because my old tires wore pretty even! Any info or opinions would be helpful. Thanks!

Sounds like you may have a tire that it is out of round. Try to see if you can have your assembly balanced with a Hunter GSP9700. It will determine if the tire is out of round and which one or ones. You can find a local one to you at www.gsp9700.com.

Lug nuts are fine I checked them!

Thanks for the info Leo! Any idea on how much it's gonna cost me to have it done! I see Spitzer Toyota has one which is like 25 miles from me,maybe I'll just have them do it since they are a Toyota dealer and active on these forums! Thanks again!

Shop around cause dealers sometimes charge an arm and a leg for road force balancing.

Are they directional and mounted improperly? That happened to mine, took them off put them in the right location and made a huge difference.

without using the road force balancer, simple rotate the tire 180degrees from the location where it was mounted, rebalance and try that. You can also watch the tire on the balancer for up-down movement. Usually tire shops that see that type of movement will replace the tire under warranty (after 180degree re-mounting onto the wheel). since it's what you call "out of round" it happens with tires. Go to a local discount tire, they should be able to warranty out a tire no problem.

My advice? replace the tire causing this, I don't think re-balancing is going to help at all. You could re-balance it over and over and what you'll see is the balance constantly changing. It's because the material inside is bad, it happens.

^ Ok Thanks for the advice! I still gotta find a new shop with someone that knows what they are doing, so I can determine which tire is out of round if any and have it replaced! I figure no matter what I'll be paying at least twice for a wheel balance,so any money I saved by getting the tires online just went down the drain! Oh well thats the luck I have! Thanks everybody for your help!
