MotoMan_YZ400 12-01-2004, 09:15 PM Ok i did the normal shatter method. But i still have a sliver wedged for edge of the housing! i cant get it out.... i was going to try the oven method, but that seems messy and danagerous. How did you guys get those last few pieces out?
I need help ASAP... cuz right now, the xB is down!

I custom bent a lng thin flathead screwdriver for just this... don't get too frustrated... mine took 45 minutes or so even with the custom SD. Just take your time, you dont want to scratch the inside of your lens.
TheDanger 12-01-2004, 09:43 PM my friend used a coat hanger to get in there and pulled it out...way we did mine was hit that piece again and it popped right out. Just dont get too mad and take your time...
MotoMan_YZ400 12-01-2004, 10:57 PM Well i did it.... I just had to use a small SD and use my hand to bop... kinda had to wiggle it out. I was surpised about how easy it really was, (now know how to do it).
Thanks for all the info guy, it eased my mind during the procedure.
Now how to install Blue LED blackling in there  :P
erichlf 12-02-2004, 01:43 AM I did oven method. It was messy, but should have done that from the beginning. If you use the oven method you don't really need to pry up anything. This will just permanantly bend the plastic. This is what I did on my first headlight. The second one I just pulled the tabs up by hand and it worked just as well with no plastic being distorted.
TheDanger 12-02-2004, 01:49 AM no prob! pics pics...heres mine.

MotoMan_YZ400 12-02-2004, 02:00 AM Now i have a few test LEDs on the way.... gunna make it so they glow a blue color (much like Danger's) but still blink Amber (gotta keep her legal!) The cool think is, if i dont like the color blue, these are RGB (Red/Green/Blue) LEDs, so i can make them what ever color i want :D
TheDanger 12-02-2004, 03:02 AM really cool moto! Mine are just silverstar bulbs...I ordered some chrome ones that light up amber.
rogcjms 12-02-2004, 04:35 AM i wish i could clear mine but im too afraid do to it! I dont wanna scrath the inside.
shapinoweno 12-02-2004, 07:25 AM just go for it man...
I was all scared and i just went for it...i had the front end off in 25 mins.
(the tutorial helped a lot) The trick is to hit the reflector pretty much in the middel, and to hit it fairly hard.
The first one i did i dident make the reflector compleatly shater and i had a hard time geting a reaming peace out.second light was peasy 8)
MotoMan_YZ400 12-02-2004, 07:41 AM just go for it man...

Yeah mine broke into 2-3 pieces.... I simply held the lamp at an angle so the shards were to fall down close to the hole, just enought to get a pair of small angle cutters up in there to grab on, and just cut right through it. each peice will shatter into about another 3-4 peices. keep doing this till they simply just all fall out. NO SCRATCHES!! Well i do have one small, unnoticible dot, where one peice was too long and wouldnt fall to the hole, so i had to take a pair of long needle nose, and grab, then twist it to break. Wasnt being too careful when doing this, but it worked. Looks nice!! took a while to get the amber dust out of there (got a few small peices behind the reflector, and a small spek on the main headlamp side  ) but it worked out. Really havent seen them on in the day light (had to put lamp back in and bumper back on @ 8pm by light of a LED keychain light danglin from my mouth  )
ScionXBrent 12-02-2004, 12:43 PM ... I did the oven method... actually a friend. Came out great.
pileofmonkeycrap 12-02-2004, 03:51 PM Read my posts about what I did when clearing my headlights. I had the same problem with a large piece of the tab beinging stuck and not able to shatter that remaining piece. I used the oven method, but didn't pry apart the entire housing. I only spread the housing apart at the end where the tab still was. Then with a thin screwdriver I was able to slide it in and just poke out the tab from underneath.

erichlf 12-03-2004, 05:05 PM Have mine blinking blue. Yes, definately illegal. Waiting to get pulled over. Have the amber sitting in the glove box.
BrianxB 12-03-2004, 08:45 PM Use the oven method. The shatter method usually yields poor results.
hotbox05 12-03-2004, 08:58 PM use white bulbs for the signal bulbs. front turn signals can be white or amber and i personally tthink whit looks better. besides removing the reflectors your lights are allready illegal.
VanillaRice 12-03-2004, 09:31 PM ...besides removing the reflectors your lights are allready illegal.
Where did you find this information? If I clear my lights but leave amber turn signals are you saying that my lights are illegal? I can't say I'm buying this one. Show me where you found this law written.
hotbox05 12-03-2004, 09:57 PM yep all cars need reflectors in the front and rear lighting. i am not lying but i dont have the time to look thru california vehicular code right now. ask squirrel. oh and not only is it a ca law but it is also a fed law.
CBSIMONSEZ 12-04-2004, 12:23 AM Tiss true, you need a reflective amber n the front, and a red reflector in the rear. Just for this reason was why som many people were having problems with the clear tail lights in past years. No reflective red in the rear.
MotoMan_YZ400 12-04-2004, 12:27 AM Now i dont know about Cali.... but here in Va....
According to VA State Law:
"Every turn signal used to give a signal of intention to turn a vehicle shall be so constructed and so installed as to give a signal plainly visible in clear weather and under normal traffic conditions from a distance of at least 100 feet to the rear and 100 feet to the front of the vehicle."
Just remove all your singals.... just use your hands
"Signals required by § 46.2-848 shall be given by means of the hand and arm or by some mechanical or electrical device... ...Whenever the signal is given by means of the hand and arm, the driver shall indicate his intention to start, stop, turn, or partly turn by extending the hand and arm beyond the left side of the vehicle"

hotbox05 12-04-2004, 12:40 AM check fed regs reflectors are required. thats all i'm sayin. lets not fight
TheDanger 12-04-2004, 12:51 AM hes right...you must have one on the back and one on the front.
MotoMan_YZ400 12-04-2004, 12:56 AM I think this is the abridge version.... but...
Standard No. 108 - Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment - Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, Buses, Trailers.
Requirements for original and replacement lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Its purpose is to reduce traffic crashes and deaths and injuries resulting from traffic crashes, by providing adequate illumination of the roadway, and by enhancing the conspicuity of motor vehicles on the public roads so that their presence is perceived and their signals understood, both in daylight and in darkness or other conditions of reduced visibility
So yes he's right. But only in the sense that the car came with reflectors, so it must have reflectors... Now can a cop ticket you for it. Yes, but by keeping the amber light in there (which can be seen reguardless) he probably wont, but still can. Now if you change them w/ blue, red, white, etc lights, that may give him a reason too. Just be smart about it.
(That wasnt fighting :P )
hotbox05 12-04-2004, 12:59 AM what can legally be done and is on some cars as stock is an amber reflector on the very side of the housing yet the signal bulb is more towards the front and with a white bulb. or you can get white reflectors. nice. most cops wouldnt care about reflectors or not but if u had green , red , or blue front signals he would.
