I would definitely do choice #3. (Which by the way is not on the list.)
But with a 8.5" width, you might rub. (It would look so dope though!)
In that case, go with 18x7.5 size. XXRs/Sportmax way a ton anyways,
so no use going with the 17s.

i have talked to tong BUT he has the 18x7.5 with the 42 offset AND he is dropped on TRDs
when i looked at his pictures, the lip did seem to match fairly well

there are people running 18x9 with 40 offset with no rubbing issues.

Get the 18x8.5. U will be fine. The only rubbing u can get is from turning really hard or going way to fast over something that u shouldn't have gone that fast over.
Thomas is on 19's and s techs and he hardly ever rubs.

my wheels cost me $600, and $200 for tires.
another set cost me $400 for wheels, and $200 for tires,
I got a set of Scion wheels for $125 and tires were $150
whats your point? just because wheels cost a lot does not mean they will not fail. In a high speed crash ALL wheels will act the same....they bend and break.
Elijahtc
05-21-2008, 06:04 AM
yeah it's not like he has a turbo or anything that he will need a super performance tire or a strong wheel to handle the power. Not like he is gonna be racing and subjecting the tires/wheels to harsh conditions just as racing through sharp turns.
Not everybody on SL needs to spend $2,000 on a set of wheels and tires. In fact most people prolly don't spend over $800 for wheels and tires.

i would go with a 225/40/18
I am on a 225/45 with my 17"s and i never rub and i basically have the same drop as u if not a tiny bit more. The 40 will maybe compensate for the extra wheel diameter.
TongMan
05-21-2008, 09:03 AM
225/40/18 on mine...no rubbing at all even under hard turns and bumps. Here are more pics if you wanna compare the paint match:

you're also running a very large aspect ratio. i would never trust a low profile tire on these wheels, mostly after the horror stories i've heard.

breaux_tC,
Personally, the 18's look nicer on the tC than 17's. If you do not want rubbing, 18x7.5 ET 42 would be the bet. 18x8.5 ET 35 will rub on full lock turns and peed bumps at certain speeds. The 18x8.5 would be my choice just because the flush look is sooo sweet.
Now don't let people knock you wheel choice just because of the price per wheel. Just cause you can't afford HRE's or other wheel brands of that caliber means that Sportmax are horrible wheels. Just make sure you properly install your set up and watch where you drive because no wheel is indestructable, even HRE's or those other wheel brands for that matter.

That is true, but SportMax and other low quality wheels are more prone to breaking. I'd rather have an forged wheel that could survive a handful of potholes than a wheel that breaks after the first few. If you could spend an extra $200-300 per wheel to prevent a horrible accident, would you? I would. The same can be said for tires. Don't cheap out on wheels and tires. Your whole car rides on them.

the problem is that his question wasnt about what you thought about the quality of the wheels....so your opinion was dually noted, but not valid ....all he asked was what size would look better and if he were to get 18's, if it would rub. its as simple as that.

I saved my money for 10 years prior to getting the tC. I didn't spend any bit of it until I thoroughly researched and made sure my potential purchase was what I really wanted to spend my money on. Through all that saving I am able to have the nice things I do today.
