Ok. I sorta wanted to create a thread dedicated to the available coilovers and their specs.

I've sorted them in alphabetical order, and listed from minimum drop to max drop. Obviously there are more than what's listed and this is all very basic info, but I'm hoping to be able to fill in the blanks with time. (for example, there are no references to dampening adjustments yet etc.) If anyone has any info on the coilovers listed or even unlisted for that matter, post what you know! Here's what I have so far:

whats the difference between the Cusco Vacanza set and the Vacanza wagon set up beside how much both can be dropped

i am not exactly sure, but it could be how many ways it can be adjusted and/or the spring rate.

for a comfortable ride but an overall good sense of balance what would i want the springs to be semi stiff, stiff, soft or what?

These have to be the best for most:

Ground Control coilover "kit"

0-2.8" all around!

Yes, they are not full coilovers but who really needs that for a car like ours? If you know Ground Control, you must know they have a good reputation for making high quality parts. I know the $1400 sets are good but if you don't need all those bells and whistles(most of us) these are without a doubt the best at just over $400. After intensive testing the finished result is ready and is being manufactured as we *speak*. I have a pair of the first sets that have been released and now only need one, so send me a PM if your interested in buying a kit or simply want to check out the quality. I'm in Orange County, CA...

i thought tanabe had that air assisted setup(airbag)
for the ncp31? i can be wrong... i believe that thing was almost 4" drop in front

update: its called the AIR COBRA...
and i dont think they make it for ncp31.. sorry for brining that up =X

UrbanDrum

So Ground Control is still the best option for most of us at around $400

Hey UrbanDrum, easy on the sales pitch. If you want to sell something, put it in the classifieds.

Anyway, Opr8r, some of the numbers are off. Tein lists the Wagons at -2.5F and -1.7R and the Vacanzas are -3.16F and either -2.14R or -3.3R.

Haven't heard of Ground Control. Anybody have any info, website, etc???

UrbanDrum

www.Ground-Control.com

They don't have Scion info on the site yet since the finished product is so new.

ground control is a great company and knows what they are doing.

other factors to consider in coilovers -

do they come with camber plates? (some do)
what spring rages? linear or progressive?
are the shocks adjustable? in what range?

err Ground control coilovers are basically sleeve-type coilovers that use specific eibach race springs.

The good point of it is that Ground-Control will match the springs as best they can to your specs.

However, you should do some searches for threads... I believe there was a thread or so a while back about the spring popping out or something.

considering for a few hundred more you can get tein basics (under 700) or tanabe sustec type-2s...

and considering depending on the drop you will most likely spend a couple hundred to get new shocks... ground-control isn't necessarily the best option...

the cheaper full coilover sets (tein basics... etc) do not have adjustable dampers... the more expensive ones do $1000+ ones

We are custom building Endless/Zeal B6 coils for me and will become production models. I might start another thread detailing the technical differences between these coilover brands. Since purchasing a xA in the past two weeks and already modding it with Blitz Coils I have started to study the attributes of available coils quite extensively. Shoot suspension is what we do for a living.

Some Basics things to look at:

What's included with the kit to determine it's value and the quality of the materials used to produce the kit.

1. Camber plates and rear upper mounts
2. Independent preload and ride height adjustment
3. damping adjustability front and rear
4. Ability to custom build according to your driving needs, race or street or VIP SLAM show.
5. Monotube or Twin Tube
6. Preassembled?
7. Linear or Progressive springs
8. Servicability in US, not just replacement but custom abilities for valving in US.

While many of these won't be important to a lot of ya I thought I'd detail the majority of attributes, other than lowering specs, to look into when purchasing coilovers.

I'll mention what I have right now:

Blitz Coils,

No uppermounts
No damping adj in front, includes helper spring
Damping adj in rear

Pretty basic setup. It's largest advantage is the "Euro way of using progressive springs on a coilover." I gotta get some time to post pics of it and such.

Gimme a couple days.

I would only suggest GC's if you have short stroke dampers. The issues we've had with GC's in the past is the maintenace involved. Some of the machined aluminum parts begin to wear down after time. The sleeve type kits also tend to make noise and will not ride as good as an integrated system.

We didn't dump it due to the fact that it's daily driven and the FAB kit is aggressive. It can be lowered another 2.5" about.

my tein basics have been sitting for about 6months with a 3.5" drop. everythings still ok.
i just measured yesterday.
a stock xb with 18" wheels, running 215/35 series tires,
is 8.5" off the ground(front lip).
my car is 5" off the ground(same wheels/tires).
i love the way my coilovers ride.

I don't know about ride quality but it is HKS. I do know the cheapest I found so far was 1150.00

The ride quality is incredible. The coilovers ride very very smooth. I sometimes wish they were a little stiffer. :) They definately do stiffen up once you start gettin on it though. Even at the height im lowered at they are still smooth.

$1150 is about right for the coilovers. I just wish they came with camber plates up front. :)

Please explain like I am a six year old ;)

I will be going with JIC FLTA-2's very shortly.

I have heard very good things about them, and they were reccomended to me.

As soon as I get the chance, I'm installing a custom set of TEIN springs for my Wagon coilovers. I went firmer in back and an inch lower all the way around.

i have the df210's on 19's ....
i want to go lower...
what setup would i need to go with ....??

hotbox05
05-05-2005, 07:56 AM
almost any coilover setup add camber , or air plus camber.

aireck
05-05-2005, 09:42 AM
hmm.. camber plates for the front and shims for the back....
now to figure how to get lower overall!!

aireck
05-05-2005, 09:45 AM
tein wagon dampers....
what will these do to my ride overall...??
specs and all...

hotbox05
05-05-2005, 10:58 AM
shoot check the first page i believe they go like 2.9 low in front and like 2.6 in back . not sure. but yep plates up front and shims in back should do your ride good. are you planning on keeping the same wheels?

aireck
05-05-2005, 11:00 AM
i might sell them soon..... i was thinking of going with some deep dish ones soon but i want to get the suspesion done first...

aireck
05-05-2005, 11:04 AM
about the tein wagons... thats not enough drop ... damn!

hotbox05
05-05-2005, 11:19 AM
hey , get the wheels first it will help you with suspension by knowing how much clearance u have. aka or get the new wheels before you plan on the shims and such.

aireck
05-05-2005, 11:29 AM
i see what you mean .... but i can't decide between 19's or 18's ...i have even been thinking about 17's but i would need a serious drop to pull that off to the way i would like it....

but mean time i am trying to get as much info as possible before i drop some cash....
i was sort of thinking of selling my wheels for some coilovers... and i just might go that route then after i get them ... maybe get the shims if i need them....

hotbox05

yeah definately just be on the lookout for offset , width and overall tire diameter.
