and installing an AVIC-D3 this weekend. I've seen quite a bit of info on the AVIC but not much when it comes to the XD.

I've done the bypass (moving the mute wire up to the slot above, grounding it, and then grounding the parking brake wire)

I purchased the harness and the dash kit so I'm figuring that the wires I'll have left over is the dreaded Speed Sensor wire, the illumination wire (maybe) and the reverse wire.

The speed wire shoud be on one of the radio harnesses but I'm still not sure which one. A lot of different answers, Someone sounded pretty sure that it was on the 20 pin harness in the third slot, could be orange, could be purple, could be purple with a black stripe.

No idea where the illumination wire would be on the harness. I'll get the tester out and get to checking.

Reverse wire, easiest for me would be the back up tailight. I used my tester and it wouldn't light up on either of the two wires for some reason. I had a white wire with a black stripe and a red wire with a blue stripe. I'm guessing the red wire with the blue stripe would be the one to tap in to?

Anything else I need to watch out for? Any help would def be appreciated.

We loved the XD so much we bought two. I bought mine first and then my wife decided her life couldn't go forward without one. :P

Welcome to the forum. No one on here that I know of has tackled a D2 install yet, although I'm not saying no one has. Take pictures take pictures take pictures and post em up!

Glad you're enjoying the car!

What kind of mileage are you two getting?

Right now I'm avg about 35 mpg in town. Lubbock is flat and a lot of driving is done on the "Loop". Kinda like a highway. We haven't taken them out on the road yet. We've only had them about 2 weeks.

for the speed sensor wire There are 4 connectors on the back of the radio, a 6pin, 10pin, 16pin, and 20 pin. The 20 pin has a purple wire in cavity 3 which is the speed sensor wire and does say "SPD" for speed on it. i just ran the reverse to my tail light and i dont remember the illumination wanna say its orange maybe.i have the Z2 and love it

Alrighty, just finished the install. Took me about 1 1/2 hours total.

The harness is pretty straight forward. The illumination wire is included in the harness so no need to tap anything. After connecting Metra harness I was left with the Speed sensor wire and the reverse signal wire.

REVERSE SIGNAL WIRE

I connected the reverse signal wire to the back tailight. There is a small panel that gives access to the tailights. Give the little bulb a turn and the unit pops out. Remove the tape and you'll see a red wire with a blue stripe and a white wire with a black stripe. Use the wire tap to connect the supplied reverse wire lead to the red wire with the blue stripe. I just ran the wire back up to the front of the car placing the wire under the panels that easily pop off.

SPEED SIGNAL INPUT WIRE

I couple of people have told me the speed sensor wire is the Purple wire on the 20 pin harness, slot 3. I found the to be absolutely correct. Although I did NOT see SPD anywhere on the wire or the harness. I just simply used another wire tap and connected the Speed sense wire from the unit to the purple wire on the 20 pin harness.

Simply plugged in the harnesses and the antenna and replaced all the panels.

I haven't been able to test everything but I did get a reverse signal in the AVIC as well as pulses on the speed sensor.

The GPS antenna was missing out the box and it's on order, should be here tomorrow, so I wasn't able to try out the navigation. I did notice that when I was trying to enter in an address it would only show me ID, OR and WA. No telling what that was all about.

Dunkman007, did you need an antenna adapter for the D3 or was the connector on the xD a standard antenna connector? I am installing a Pioneer 4000DVD later this week and wonder if I need an adapter.

Standard antenna connection. The one thing that I had to go back and do was connect the blue antenna wire on the harness. I've always left that alone considering I've never had a power antenna but it's a must if you ever want to get an AM signal. Fm was a little weak too but not too noticeable.
