Default Question on instrument cluster dimmer control

I just bought my 2008 xB and noticed the dash dimmer lowers the brightness only so far then shuts off completely. Is this typical? I want to dim the lights much further down for night driving. Suggestions?

i think its because the lights are LED instead of traditional bulbs, they dont do too well in dimming applications but last longer and look better
