I am trying to take off the stock muffler to replace it with the DC exhaust and I am having the damnest time roming it from the rubber mounts. Anyone have any hints to help me get the stock exhaust off. Thanks.

The old trick: Spray the rubber bushings with WD40! Right along the metal peice your trying to push the bushing over. Does that make any sense?

Duh! I started down one path and just overlooked everything. Thanks, that will definately do it. I feel pretty dumb now, but at least will have the exhaust changed out in about 10 minutes now

It is in and sounds nice! I have been motoring around and starting to break it in. I will get a pic as soon as I get a chance. Just curious, fo those of you that have the DC exhaust, how long did it take to break in and stop burning off that new part smell? I know the engine took about 100 miles or so after I bought it. Thanks.

I will get pics very very soon. It is hard since I have over researched digital cameras and just never buy one. So I will take some and scan them shortly. As for Dyno results, I saw the following in another thread yesterday:

"The exhaust is good for 4.8 HP and 2 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels at 5,000 RPM."

So I think that is what the results are of one test on the Exhaust.

that result is when DC tested it

Do you know if that was at the wheels or flywheel?

HotBox

most aftermarket turners dyno at the wheels so i would imagine thats WHP

I have a 5spd. Is that normally what they use for their tests?

How does it feel...Other than the sound can you feel a difference?

I can definately feel a difference over 3500 RPM in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. It does seem a little less responsive in the low RPMs in 4th, but the higher RPMS, like over 4000, have better power as well. And the sound is nice and throaty. Alot nice than the TRD one I had seen at the dealer.

And pics are coming soon, hopefully today or tomorrow.

With these small motors, when you start adding the basics...I/H/E you going to notice that you're going to loose low end power.

wouldn't it be smarter then for trd to make a s/c for the car instead of a turbo because of the low-end power losses on these mods.

read the second post from the top on this subject. It will work, and use a screwdriver to help pry it off.

i believe i did the same shyt i guess it was just that last night i was so excited i wanted to get it on there in a hurry and didnt stop and take my time

but i have another question it said to use the stock gasketand on that part the were exhaust connects there was no gasket... did yalls come with one or what did yall do ?

02-02-2004, 03:34 AM
there is a very fine gasket that sticks to the pipe. Sometimes it doesn't move when the muffler is removed so just put on the new muffler. :D

I can't see why. If the intake is a shorter length runner you might lose some low end. Some are short, some aren't.

less backpressure leading to less low rpm power? Our engines have absolutely zero overlap at low rpms, backpressure should have nothing to do with it.

first of all, nobody has shown me evidence that low end is lost with these mods.

second of all, what good is low rpm power?

Go out and buy an exhaust, bolt it on.....try it out and you will see what EVERYONE means.

I agree. I started off with a injen intake that made good power through the entire range. I put on a 5zigen exhaust and though I wouldn't say I lost low end, the differece in power wasn't too noticable until you start to hit the 4000 - 5000 rpm mark. The power starts to hit in the mid to top end. At least that has been my experience. 8)

Yeah, haven't seen any dyno results yet. Low end power (more specifically referring to torque) gets you moving for the first ~40MPH. Then after that, HP starts kicking in, and by the time your doing 80MPH it pretty much all power. Also the more low end you have, the better you are going to haul whatever there is on your ride. Like, the super duty/heavy duty trucks, the more torque the better.

did someone say dyno results for a manifold back system!?
