Default Buying a 2005 Scion xB - Help!

well i just sold my 2000 celica gt-s 6spd. looking for a family oriented car like the scion xb. there's one for sale locally for $8,900 with 83,000 miles on it. does it sound good or is it overpriced? i love the color and the fact that it's roomy and also automatic drivetrain.

Sounds like a decent price, CARMAX's lowest listing is an automatic xB w/ 71k miles for $11,600. Just try to grab a vehicle history report first. I honestly don't know what the life expectancy is on the xB, though I haven't heard of any yet breaking down due to age or miles on Scionlife.

If you want, you can always change spark plugs, get the injectors cleaned and switch to synthetic oil after you buy it to extend vehicle life a bit. Maybe swap the coolant at 90k.

Biggest problem most owners have is windshield and paint chips on the hood due to the car's shape. I haven't lost paint yet but have gotten two window chips, just pits, no cracking or spiderwebbing so they can be ignored until more accumulate.

That's a decent price. I got my '04 with 74,000 miles for $8,450 and that's about the best deal I could find searching for over a month all over the state. I would see if they would go down $500, but honestly they are getting harder and harder find and the price of 4 cylinders are going up.

If it was well maintained then I wouldn't worry about the mileage which is probably highway miles in your case.

that doesnt sound like a bad price to me...
Toyota makes a pretty reliable 4 cylinder
83K shouldnt be too many if it was well maintained

go test drive it and look it over
thats always better than saying "what if"

my .02

I bought my '04 xB with 92K on it for $6600, but the place was in a hurry to unload it (scrape on the side, smelled like cigars). It drove just as well as the 31K '06 I'd driven the day before. It seems like since I bought it prices for xBs have been going *up* due to the gas crunch.

My Box has 103K now and needed front brakes, plugs and one belt tightened. Which is virtually nothing for a car of that mileage.

^^^Yep, just buy it and love it. If properly maintained you should have no problem getting over 300K from it. That is my plan. I may even pick up a spare motor and store it for the day the original one dies.

Pre arrange your financing in MN before you go shopping in Chicago.
