View Full Version : WARNING for Limited Eddition Scion owners
startreker 12-03-2004, 04:42 PM I currently own number 600 of 2100 for the lava orange Scion xb. Not that long ago an F-150 took it upon itself to smash into my right front door, breaking the whole door and shaddering the glass, many pieces fell and landed on the dashboard. Toyta wanted to replace my dashboard and in the confusion I didn't think much of it. A couple weeks later my car returned in as good as new expect as my friend quickly pointed out the limited eddition sticker on the dash was gone. Upon a couple phone calls and some digging I found out that the they tried to take it off the old dash and in the process is basically fell apart. It looked rather ugly. They called up the parts people and they wouldn't make a replacement part for it, so now my car is sadly missing the limited eddition emblem on the dash. Does anyone have pictures of their limited eddition emblem and/or any ideas for getting a replacement and/or replica of the orignal one?
squirrel 12-03-2004, 04:46 PM Man, that bites. I hope everything works out and you get another badge.
Munch 12-03-2004, 04:50 PM Wow that does suck. They should do something for you.
pdrizzle 12-03-2004, 04:52 PM That doesn't make much sense considering that the limited edition badge on the dash is in a spot which seems like it is meant to be removed (kinda like the spots in the bumper for transporting our vehicles). I would _____ until something is done about it.
startreker 12-03-2004, 04:54 PM They were nice people but the parts people didn't really know what to do, I was the first person it ever happened to. If I can get a picture of I might be able to find some way to make a replica if I can find someone skilled enough to create a replica of the orignal. If nothing else hopefully the other limited eddition people will now know to not replace their dash if they want to keep their emblem.
WagenMaster 12-03-2004, 05:02 PM I'll sell you mine for $10,000.00
Sounds like they didn't try to carefully remove it. Using some dental floss to slice thru the adhesive should have worked if they were careful. I doubt you're going to have any luck getting one through Scion Corp.
I'd advise waiting and watching out for one that gets totalled. There's been quite a few in accidents already, including mine, and there's bound to be some that aren't repairable...
I don't know if anyone would be able to reproduce one for you. It's just thin aluminum with an etching, but you wouldn't get an exact copy.
Maybe you can buy 'MrLavaLava''s, if his insurance co. has indeed totalled out his wrecked RS1....
:(
startreker 12-03-2004, 05:06 PM I would have to find someone really skilled and/or extremely nice and willing to try. I need number 600 also, I don't want to get some else's number either. They said it just crumpled up, they might have gotten it off alright, I don't know but they screwed up somewhere. Scion Corp said they couldn't make a replacement for some reason.
clckwrkorang777 12-03-2004, 05:08 PM Yeah I'm this guy's friend who pointed it out. My thoughts are that it's actually a foil peice or something that crumpled when they removed it. Toyota said the part isn't made anymore which is very annoying to say the least. Perhaps they can fabricate one when the RS02 comes out????
Daniel
cu0ng 12-03-2004, 07:35 PM Whoa.. that does suck. Though we still know you have the RS1 from the flashy Hot Lava paint. I don't think it's the same.
scooter123 12-03-2004, 08:35 PM Can someone get a digital photo of the badge to startreker? There are places like this http://www.photofabrication.com/ which might be able to make a reasonable facsimile.
MrLavaLava 12-03-2004, 08:37 PM Here is a pic of mine. R.I.P. #449...They never put mine on the car at port so I just kept it in the little baggy that it comes to the port in and kept it in my glove box... I did however keep the badge after the totaled out my Lava and just laid,(not stuck), it on the hood of my Lava DUB 1:24 scale car as a lovely reminder of my Lava....You could probably go to Mail Boxes Etc. or somewhere like that and get a new one engraved on one of those small oval name plaques and put double sided tape on it... And come to think of it, since the VIN# does NOT pull up as a RS.1 you could actually put whatever number you wanted on it like #0 out of 2100... ...L8R...

George 12-03-2004, 08:52 PM Unless you are looking for concours points, you can have a small brass plaque made by an engraver. Look in the phone book under "engraving" or "trophies". The nice thing about it is that the plaque can say anything you want, such as "Made specifically for [your name]"
George
clckwrkorang777 12-03-2004, 10:17 PM MrLavaLava, I saw your thread, I'm very sorry man. BUT THANKS for the pic! I'm sure Brad and myself can figure out what we can do with that! Thanks alot!
Daniel
fr130 12-03-2004, 10:18 PM It was Toyota's fault that it broke or the dealer :?:  Blame the dealer not the supplier.
startreker 12-03-2004, 11:44 PM It would probably be the dealer's fault that it broke while trying to move it from one dash to the other. It would be awesome to get a close up picture of it and just inform whoever it is that does the engraving that the number needs to be 600 instead of w/e other number is on there. There is a number in the paper work that proves I have 600 besides the little emblem but I miss it because I could always point to it and say that I had exactly 600.
CBSIMONSEZ 12-03-2004, 11:59 PM I would agree with George on this one. ANY local engraver should be able to duplicate the plaque. Then just some double sided tape and your good as new.
As far as pics ... the only one that comes to mind is under the post from way back in Feb. #0001. The thread last i saw was almost 8 pages long. There should be a full sized pic of the plaque. Run off a copy and let a local engraver do the rest.
Thanks for the warning, ill keep it in mind.
CBSIMONSEZ 12-04-2004, 12:02 AM Here, ill do noe better, hit the link below, very first pic is nothing but the best.

SweetDaddyDelicious 12-04-2004, 02:06 AM That's no problem to get made at all. I have the brushed aluminum vinyl. Then all you need to do is just have it printed on. Looks like that's how they were made anyway. Any signshop with a digital printer should be able to handle it about 10 minutes. PM me if you want more info- but basically that is a piece of cake.
MrLavaLava 12-04-2004, 02:21 AM startreker------ I put a link on my ^^^previous post^^^ that show you a very close up pic of my badge....Just click the link, put your cursor over the pic and hit the save icon, save it to your computer, print it out, take it to an engraver..........L8R...............
superjeer 12-04-2004, 02:43 AM I'll sell you mine for 16,085. 00 free shipping and comes in the REALLY nice package. Auto.. 5K miles
SweetDaddyDelicious 12-04-2004, 03:34 AM Engraving and printing are different. The engraver is still going to have to take the file and convert it to a vector format like .ai or .eps. They won't be able to work directly from a Jpeg or bmp file but it will give them something to start working with. It should be no prob for the shop, but expect to be charged for converting it if you want an exact replica.
startreker 12-04-2004, 11:23 AM Thanks everyone that should help a lot, does anyone know the length from left to right and the height from top to bottom both going from the middle of the emblem just so I give them one more thing to work with?
CBSIMONSEZ 12-04-2004, 02:17 PM If you hit the link above, that i worked so hard to find for you, you can see the size right there. That is the size of the plaque, or damn close to it.
its_ikon 12-04-2004, 11:04 PM these are the pics i have of mine

firesquare 12-06-2004, 07:41 AM thats total BS
you should get on the horn about the dealership messin up your stuff and bad mouth them and take your business elsewhere (if you could) id gett on the horn with toyota USA and have them document the dealer and stuff about the mishap. stuff like that shouldnt happen to any car LE scion or VR4 Galant or any other car with a special number on the dash.
scionmilktruck 12-06-2004, 01:36 PM It sucks I know, but I can sort of see the logic from Toyota. This keeps every Tom, Dick and Harry from creating their very own Limited edition and trying to pass it off as the real thing. The market becomes saturated and unstable for their precious Release Series.
startreker 12-07-2004, 02:48 PM Yeah we tried going thru a lot of things and no one can make a real duplicate. I hope someone can make a good copy of it that will look atleast as close to as possible the orignal thing. I just don't exactly what it was made out of so I don't know how to make it look exactly correctly.
theappe 12-07-2004, 03:58 PM i used to work at a trophy shop and i was the engraver there. You would need to go to an engraving place that had a laser engraver to do that kind of badge. And that material looks like brushed aluminum. Its very possible of doing it. Not too hard at all.
Pulse 12-07-2004, 05:46 PM Our local dealer had a bunch of "limited edition" tC's for a while. All had a similar badge (nothing overly special about the tC's, just a white tC with all options on it, no real discount).
All of them had the exact same badge in them (same style anyway). So they shouldn't be to hard to re-create.
startreker 12-16-2004, 01:17 AM Can someone please give me the info for the emblem so I know how big it is at from left to right and from top to bottom so the engraver has more info to work with?
