Wheel specs?

18x8.5 +30 front (soon to be +15)
18x9 +24 rear

maxed out on B&G coilovers...no fender liners or guards removed, fenders only rolled and pulled a bit.

Your talking about the te37 that are white? That's the only person I know who has them on I believe it's stinkysab or something like that, that would look nice white on white but you just got your rims and there very sexy I would stick wiith the rpf1 but I mean if it isn't what you really want then your always gonna b unhappy until you get what you really want

Jasper Ash

^ The white ones? Those are hot. However, I'm very happy with these wheels. Not only are they RPF1s, which I freaking love, but they're a custom color and sizing for our bolt pattern.

The little changes they did(more like remove) has left me a bit disappointed with the tC2. I would have thought someone would be on some baller and aggressive wheels on the tC2 as I've seen plenty in the used market online. Oh well, there still hasn't been a coilover setup released to pull the look off yet, so it's a waiting game for now for tC2 owners.

I think that why i just assumed they were knock offs.
Everytime ive seen TE's on a tC its been in pretty horrible sizing.

And as far as the knock off vs real debate.
People buy real deal stuff because its proven to be stronger and they like supporting companies that support the "scene" back.

Without the OG companies Rota and all those other companies wouldnt even have any styles to copy off of.

The line between "legit" and "fake" is starting to fade and less people are starting to care. You should see all of the high end companies that are starting to run Rota's on the track, and the numbers are growing. Honestly, if you think non-biased for a moment and compare bang-for-the-buck, you can't blame them. Honestly, IMO, if you're running Volks just for looks and not on the track, you've defeated the purpose of the wheels anyways.

Oh Im not ashamed of having rotas. I like the way they look and they fit my budget. Plus Im drivng to work and school.. I don't track or go to car shows. It's not like I really need $700 per rim wheels.

Oh and I would have gotten those Works too for the price you got them! Steal man! ;) I think they cost less then my torques.

bang for the buck is the argument everyone uses...and its one of the worst ones.

For the price people pay for a new set of rotas, you could buy a used set of quality wheels, usually with tires too.

and im not saying your lying or anything, just kind of curious. What high end companies are using rotas on the track?

most knockoff wheels are heavier than their quality counterparts, so i dont see why any high end company that is actually trying to perform competitively would run them.

Hayseed
04-28-2011, 09:02 PM
^I agree that you can get used high quality wheels for a low price. I did cheap out and buy reps, but I kick myself because right after I had the chance to buy 1. Work CR-Kai's for $1200 with tires, and 2. SSR Prof. SP1's for about the same price. Neither was exactly the size/offset I wanted but I could have made it work. I am ____ed I did that. My next set of wheels will be real. Dont get me wrong though, I run reps and have absolutely no hate for anyone who does.

^Like Hayseed said.
Find some CR-Kai's in 18x9.5 ~35 offset for under $1000 with tires (lol) then you will make sense. Believe me I have looked and searched. CL, stanceworks, stancenation, SL, WFC etc... all the ads for used Works for a few months. You wont find them in that size or color that you want. You're looking more in the range of $2k+ (just rims) from what Ive seen and even at that.. you have to hope that are 5x100. (Or spend a bunch on hub centric adapters and a powder coat if not the color you want)

Yea sure I've seen some 17s with high offsets for ~$1300 in a plain metal but thats not what I want. Yea I could afford them but why get a size/color you don't like?

This is almost like AMD vs Intel. Spend a bunch with Intel set up but get the better machine, or spend a lot less on an AMD set up and get the runner up machine. Do they BOTH still get the job done at the end of the day? Yup.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. It's getting what you want/need and can afford it.

^ LOL nice find(even though old)! Yea that is a very good deal but probably VERY rare. I would have drove to Vegas to pick them up if it was earlier this year. xD But then you have to buy tires, and I wouldn't be happy with that color so I would have powder coat them. And then you're looking at close to $1600. Granted you have the rims and you can probably save for the rest. It's if you really want to spend that much on some DD rims.

To each their own I guess.

edit: I didn't pay $1,150 for my set. I got them for less then $1000 new with tires. (color/size/look I wanted)

Exactly, ive also read about alot of people buying knock offs, having them bend, dent, whatever and then buying another set, etc etc.

Then realizing they couldve just bought a good set from the start with all the money they wasted.

Also, if you play your cards right, moneys not even an issue after the initial investment.

Buy your wheels used, use them some more, sell them for the price you paid.

@yellowxhoodie: TiC Motorsports, Takata/COBB, GST Motorsports, LIC Motorsports, etc. Sorry, im kind of a subie freak. Regardless, I'll agree that this "argument" is dumb. Everyone has their reasons to get what they have. Whether it be smaller budgets, lack of patience or whatever. To each their own.

It's good to know that you can always count on tcpete to lighten up the mood.

Speaking of good companies suffering, did you guys hear about HKS? They are pulling all of their US operations. Damn economy... However, they did not state that they will be closing down entirely. Just the US side.

yellowxhoodie
04-29-2011, 01:11 AM
Can't blame just the economy. Same argument as the wheels. Knockoff companies (like Godspeed) come in, spend $0 on r&d, completely rip off designs, people buy it just because it's cheaper and end up putting the og companies out of business. Kind of sad. Then people complain about no new parts coming out. Companies like Godspeed bring nothing to the table. Just copied products. Put yourself in hks's shoes. Would you want to spend a ton of money developing a new product when you knew another company would just come along, steal your design, and sell it for cheaper, eventually running you into the ground?

if u think rs's are played out then do something to them to unplay them out... paint the face, paint the lip, get different bolts... be different with them and no one will tell u awwww dawwww rs's all polished again zomg

buy all the other bbs rs... and DESTROY THEM. (after you give me a set of course).

Since you guys are running aggressive stances maybe you have an idea for me. I took my fender liners out and lowered my car more. But now i am hitting the tab that holds the bumper to the fender. Can i cut it off and be ok?

Irish, I just posted on the post pics thread about ur rubbing issue and then I see it on here, lol also forgot to mention on the other thread if you go wit smaller tires you would b fine like 205/40 to get some stretch cause I don't think you would get a stretch on 215/35 But you might even clear with out stretch on 215/35

Irishguy0224

@jona, i know you have a more aggressive wheel set up than i do and you are lower, when you are turning, how does your wheel not catch your fender? When i was cruising through the parking garage last night to do a shoot when i was turning really hard, my tire would catch the top of my fender... Just a rub.

Just like JDM plates are popular here, US plates and license frames are hot commodities in Japan. It's very hard to snag stuff like that over there unless you've lived in the states or bought it off someone who has.

His research is him asking fellow scion owners who have done this before about it. This is a discussion forum, dude. We're here to discuss topics and help each other out. Relax with the "just search" bull____. If he wanted to just search he would've went to google. He came here to learn by talking and asking questions, that's the exact reason why forums exist. Social interaction. I'm not trying to be a dick but it's just so much easier to just help someone out or stay quiet.
I would understand if he posted a new thread asking about stretched tires, but he's asking in the aggressive stance thread, exactly where he should be.

I would go with 215/40/17, plus it's not gonna give you alot of stretch on a 9" rim so your safe if that's your concern, also since your drop isn't aggressive with some camber you will clear and won't have to roll fenders and you won't rub

The internet has a wealth of info. There even sites that have pictures of almost every single setup you can imagine.

I was just saying that if one doesnt understand the concepts of something they should prob research it more before doing it.

That like tearing your motor apart to re-build it...without knowing anything about engine internals. Or become a stock trader...without knowing anything about the stock market.

Once you lower a car it automatically starts to camber in, just throw your wheels on, and if they rub when you go get an alignment tell them to adjust the camber arms in the rear. For the fronts you have to get camber bolts if you need further camber to avoid rubbing but I think you wil be good... Would have been better if you would have gone with 215/40

... this is hilarious! So I could make some $$$ if I shipped someone some 14" spinner hubcaps from autozone?!? Or maybe a halogen license frame, or a Ed Hardy air freshener...Maybe some light up windshield washer nozzles. Oh... the possibilities!

No extended lugs needed if you get the hubcentrip spacers cause they already come with pressed studs, and I have camber plates so yea u need camber bolts for the front, there was some one here selling project kicks and ICHIBA v2 spacers look for them and also I some some people on WFC selling some too

Any fender rolling or pulling up front or on the rears? and what camber are you at front and rear? I just bought the flat black grids 18x9.5" et38 for my gfs RS1, attempting to get the same stance or as close as I can from yours. Yours is so

No, almost all of us have the liners taken out. It'll look fine. And go to harbor freight and get a heat gun and a big hammer and you can roll your fenders easily. I would have went with a 40 series tire as well.
