Default Aem intake and TRD Exhaust.......whats the facts

Hey all, there are so many threads and posts about this topic that I read a million different things about both the intake and the exhaust. How much HP is gained from each one (by them selves) and then how when together :?: I realize that the aem intake hasnt been released yet. Also, I am under the immpression that the warranty will still be good since these are dealer offered and installed. I want to hear from people that either have one or work for toyota or can prove their findings

Oh yeah, and how much sound do they add. (I really dont want to much sound)

I work for toyota and hopefully i can answer your questions. The exhaust is designed to allow for a slightly higher bass tone, and not much performance, maybe 10hp to the flywheel, not the wheels. Now the intake will allow for more free flowing air into the motor, and sound really cool, butthere your looking at about 7-10hp to they flywheel as well.

Now with that said keep in mind that toyota as a product is designed very very well to begin with. Having an intake alone will not increase any power output at all. If you have more air coming in and no more coming out your going to increase backpressure and lose power. With the exhaust you will gain a little power, nothing too noticeable.

If you had to do one or the other def. go with the exhaust first. Then go with the intake. If you are able to complete the threesome with a DC header and you should be good for about 15hp to the wheels with all three, which is nice, and you will definately sound a lot meaner.

I hope that helps you along with your journey and good luck

DC header is 50 state street legal but will not be covered under warranty so be careful, becasue if anything goes wrong with the motor the dealership has the right to say "well the header casued your problem". But also consider this, the header is a pretty easy piece to install and un-install if you have too, so i say go for it. Just be sure to take it off anytime you go to the dealership.

Try 1-3 horsepower.

Try 1-3 horsepower for the intake at the crank.

The Axle-back wouldnt touch 1-2 crank horsepower. Its like adding a muffler to a Civic or any car.

Out stock exhaust system isnt that restrictive, its just the stock header and cats.
The rest of the exhaust looks to be 2.5in??

The K&N intake is a dyno proven 6whp and I think it was 6wftlbs also, not sure.
The Weapon-R header alone just dynoed 12whp.

With the Weapon-R short ram, header, igintion bridge (which does do much) the test tC dynoed a best run of 160whp and 161wftlbs. Stock it dynoed 141whp.
Nice gains to me. Ohh and that was all on the stock exhaust.

You should know that this isn't true. Especially working for Toyota. Have you never heard of the Magnuson-Moss act?

Also, your wrong when you say you won't get power from an intake if you don't have an exhaust, that's just basic knowledge.

actually the only bad thing is dealers can say anything they want when it comes to aftermarket modifications. you'd be amazed at how many warranty's are denied because of this. now i'm not saying its the correct thing to do. dealers really dont care about the magnuson-moss act. how many people will actually take the time/money to take a dealership to court? it just dosent happen. best thing to do is to either find a mod friendly dealership, or find a dealer that will take the time to actually see if the modification caused the problem. basically a good/just dealership.

For those of you claiming that he M-M Act will be your savior -- I'd like to see you refute their claim that the after-market headers caused the malfunction. Do you have any idea what that would involve?

I've taken my celica into the shop for warranty work a few times, you can see my mods in my sig. The only thing I ever take out is the E-manage.

They have to prove what you did caused it, if they can't your safe. I don't see how any dealer could claim that a bolt-on header would void a warranty, it's really just like putting on an exhaust.

Also to answer the noise question-the TRD exhaust was measured at 89 decibels-the max legal limit.

All dealerships are different. Some dont mind mods, some mind when the valve stem caps are changed.

Just pick the right dealer. Ask before install the mod, if they say it wond void the warranty get it in writing so they dont change their mind later.

Wrong. It's fine if you want to continue to be blissfully ignorant, but there's no reason to misinform others.
