So yesterday going to work, my car decides to die on me twice. Pulling into the parking lot, the car shaked and died, then start it back up so my sister can drive it back home, the car dies when put into gear. Hmmmm, I don't know whats up, but we gave teh dealership a call about that. Later that night, some idiot rear-ended her while she was sitting at the stop light. HE said he didnt see her, how cant u see a person sitting at the freaking stop light? Second time someone hit my car like that, the first time was some dumb idiot girl hit me at rotary and ran off and I caught up to her. I noticed people aren't able to see my car for some weird reason because I tend to get cut off like there's no tomorrow.

Sorry for the Rant,

Everything is fine, the car just decided to die a few times. It might be the cold weather we got here in Boston, but I warmed the car up before I left the house. I'm just going to bring it to the dealership for the hell of it as I have teh extended warranty anyways. I forgot to mention that my steering wheel shakes so bad at 80mph, probally in need of tires and aligment.

Last friday, my CEL (check engine light) decides to come on, so I limp my car back home during this downpour we had. So, the next day I noticed my tranny slips!@#%#$%#$ The car also bogs out, tranny shifts very hard and slips like crazy. At crusing speed, a slight tap and the rpm rises and if I step on it, it redlines for like 2 secs then shifts. The question here is this because of the CEL or my tranny is gone? I have an appointement with the dealer this tuesday and I haven't been able to go over my buddy's house to scan for error codes. Any help is very grateful..

Thanks,

yeah that sounds like the tranny, but dont worry man take it to the deal and theyll fix your problem, just make sure that when you leave its not acting the wasy it did. and you might wanna have someone drive it around before they fix it so they know whats going on.

Thanks for the support. I hope they will cover it under warranty as teh only mods I have are tein springs and painted valve cover. I have an appt. tomorrow, so I'll let a tech. drive it before they take into the garage. I'm going to scan to see what's the code from the CEL as I just got a OBD II scanner.

Thanks everyone, I went by todai (tomorrow is teh appt.) and talked to one of the tech to see if I'll be under warranty and I'm fine. Driving back home, the check engine light went off and the tranny shifts fine, WTF? I been driving it for last 2 hrs and light havent come back on or tranny slipping, and now I'm confused. I'm still going to get it checked out, but what sucks is they are still going to charge me $80 dollars for diagonstic fee to check for codes.

I'm going there tomorrow anways even though I think its fixed as CEL went off and it shifts fine. The tech. did mention about how the warranty could pay for my fee, but he didnt make it clear. He also tried to tell me that my springs could void my warranty (I know it does, but I mean as void my powertrain warranty to cover my tranny) , which I think is BS.

Thanks guys,

Voeun

Went to the dealer this morning and found out the tranny is messed up. The Toyota Rep. checked it out and said the tranny was used for performance and need to be replaced. So, they just ordered a brand new tranny for me and will be installed next week. All under warranty, but they said one shot deal as they gave me the .. Doubt (I cant find that word right now). I'm pretty happy to hear that they are replacing it, but I feel stupid for messing up the tranny though.

good job bro cus your getting it fixed and you get a brand new tranny...hehe, FYI they have to prove the springs caused the tranny to malfunction for it to void your warranty.

Reno

its good that they are covering it. also, i don't see how the springs would cause the tranny to malfuction.

I'm glad they are covering even though they found out it was abused or in their word, "USED FOR PERFORMANCE."

They have to replace it or prove you abused the tranny. Hard to do.
They shouldn't charge you for a diagnostic if your under warranty.
Stick up for your rights!

Sorry to mentioned that they didn't charge me for the diagnostic and brand new tranny for FREE. I'm just going to take it easy from now on or install a tranny cooler for the car.

Just a warning here, but if you drive your car knowing that there is something seriously wrong with it that *may* nullify whatever extended warranty you have.

My Ex-girlfriend had a claim rejected on her transmission when it died on her. She had a FOrd Explorer at that time and was driving down the road and the car stopped going. The engine worked but the car would not move. She called me to pick her up and when I arrived the whole back of the car was covered in a fine oily mist, tranny fluid. This happened suddenly because this mist was not there earlier in the day. So, to make a long story short, the extended warrant company denied the claim because she drove the car with no transmission fluid in it, even though she stopped the car when it *obviously* wouldn't go any more. When I asked the people at the warranty company how was she supposed to know when the fluid was low they didn't have a response. The manager of the transmission shop, AAMCO, said the claim inspector came in, walked around the vehicle and left. He didn't even put it on a lift. THis was AFTER I told the warranty company I wanted to be present when the inspector came in and to please let me know when he was going to be there so I could be there with him..This was an aftermarket warranty company, and because of this experience I will probably never buy one.

Now, I can't tell you guys the first part of that story without telling you the rest of this story even though it isn't about Scions or anything, but it is kind of funny to see how stupid people can be sometimes:

She bought the car used from a dealer in New York, and they even tried applying pressure on these guys to get them to pay for the transmission, but these guys were stubborn. The dealership told my Ex that she could turn her warranty in and get a prorated refund, which was just about enough to cover the cost of a rebuilt transmission, about $1200.00. She did not want to turn it in and get a refund in case something else happened to her car and needed repairs. I pointed out to her that if they weren't going to pay for her transmission what made her think that they were going to pay for anything else? She decided to keep the warranty, and I cut her loose shortly after that.

Thanks for the warning, but I'm already covered under warranty as the Toyota Representive came and checked out the car and said I'm covered. The torque converter is teh main problem, so I don't think any tranny oil will leak from the car and they told me the car is driveable.

I PAID FOR THE FRIGGIN CAR CASH and i get f**** in the ___. That is bull____, makes me wanna kick an asain in the nuts for building the car. sorry but that's bull____ (not what happened to you, but what happened to me)

Dealerships are known to screw people over in Warranty work, but in my case... I got really really lucky. Sorry to hear about all your problems, and I hope the asian people you're reffering to, aint me.ahahha

how did they say they though it was used for performance? that makes no sense. and what did u do to it?

TakumiJr

I dont know, but after checking it out they said it was used for performance. I do drive my car a lot and mostly back roads with hills. I have about 20,000 miles on my car since I bought it in April of this year.

Admitting on a public forum which can be viewed by anyone is a bad idea. Edit your post ASAP. They may use this against you. Did they give you a free loaner car? They should if it's under warranty.

TakumiJr
12-17-2004, 01:50 PM
Thanks Man :D , but they still need proof to show that the car been abused, imo. Yes, I'm getting a free loaner car, but does anyone know what kind they usually give out though? 8)

irascion

I wouldn't worry about proof at this point, they're stepping up on the warranty anyway.

The loaner's are Corolla's, Camry's, xA's, xB's, Echo's, whatevers available.

TakumiJr
12-20-2004, 04:51 AM
Yes, I'm very glad that you guys aren't hard on the warranty. BTW, we got an '05 Corolla for the rental, such a soft ride compare to the xA.

your saying your car just died? at a light the car stalled out? thats wierd, what'd they say was the reason for that?

I had a similar issue like this happen in a VW Jetta. The problem with the Jetta, the oil from the engine was leaking somehow into the tranny and vice versa. There were times that you could step on the gas just barely and not go anywhere till the thing redlined and then it would hop going back and forth between 800 and 8000rpm. The tranny was replaced four times within 35K miles. It would fix the problem at first with a replacement tranny, but it kept happening after another 5000 or so miles. The dealership eventually bought it back from me claimed under lemon law. My word to you, talk with the tech manager and ask them what they will do if this happens again and how much longer is the new tranny covered under warranty. If the tranny slip happens again, ask that they replace the engine and transmission.
