Default Best car for a project.

My dad, brother, and i are thinking about buying a project car and building it (strictly for the track). What is the best project car? We want a Supra, but its hard to find a supra that can want to build from top to bottom. We want a salvage car, since everything on it will be replaced. Any comments, advice, or suggestions?

a crx. Ugly, but cheap and easy to make go fast!! Or a mustang, they are a dime a dozen and hit 10s easily.

lol, crxs hit 10s pretty easily. I wouldnt want one either. But for cheap, you cant beat them.
To get a supra to that point is going to run $50,000. To get a mustang/crx/old school eclipse will be around $10,000. Wont look the best, but will be fast.

me and the rest of my family are differing as to what we want....my brother wants basically and old car like a charger or camaro with a big block, and i want a tuner car, so i can attempt drifting like a 240sx or something.

Hmmm. Well, old domestic muscle cars like a mustang, charger, camaro, etc. are all rear wheel drive and therefore, theoretically, will drift. Old 280Z are now thought of as classics and prolly would make good drifters. Might be able to sway someone on that if they look'n for an older car. Hell even an old 70's celica would be a great drifter. Might look into a late 70s trans am (watch the old movie Smokey and the Bandit or Corvette Summer) or another domestic like maybe a vette? 70s stuff is popular now, they're cheap as dirt and they're torq monsters which I'd imagine would be great for drifting. Best of luck, Guitartito.

240's aren't bad for a project car. I'm in the process of collecting parts for one right now.

anything with a LS1 ... you can pick up a 98+ T/A or a Camaro SS for fairly cheap now and you can make them fast for cheap (not that they aren't already lol)
for example i had bought my 98 Trans Am for $4900

if you get a Trans Am not only will you have a awesome looking car but a fast one at that too

if This is for the drag strip and you want a 10 second car. I'd suggest getting a salvaged Camaro if money is an issue (if you are looking at supras then it seems not to be)
or potentially if you want to stay on the import side. do one of these
1) A Salvage Nissan 350z or G35 with an LS swap
2) (very popular these days) a Mazda Rx7 with an LS swap

these would be a fun build that would be unique and cost much less than buying a Supra
In my opinion, this is the best way to go about figuring what kind of car to use as a platform:
you already know what kind of speed you are going for.
next decide what kind of motor you want
then design the car around the motor.

either way you go I'd do an LS motor, (they make swap kits for all kinds of chassis) they are very well made and easy to get power out of.

just my 2 cents. now if it is a road track car you are looking for... it's an all new ballgame...
