Okay here's some eye candy for you guys... finished my swap tonight. Man, I have to say I was amazed at how easy the xD was to disassemble and swap! This was soooo much easier than the tC. They really mean it when they say Scions are lego cars....

Sorry about the blur... tried to get one without the flash

and with the flash... the LCDs are about halfway between the 2 pictures in real life. The camera can't really capture their true color. I was surprised, though, when white LEDs gave me a blue-ish hue to the background.

N/p I am happy to swap any xd owners ride. Which is why I have the board diagram up and also have been offering xd swaps for about 2 months *LOL* You guys need to look around your own forums more :)

^^ 1217 will hook you guys up if you want. I don't really have the free time to do swaps for people, unfortunately. If I take the gauges out again anytime soon I will do a writeup of how to disassemble it, but it was so easy you should be able to figure it out.

Yea but how long would I be without the gauges and HVAC? Isn't that uh.. risky driving without? lol

BTW... I'm getting ready to rip out my HVAC probably this weekend and figure out what I need to do the lights behind there... hopefully I will have a blue HVAC within the next few weeks!

^^ Can you do a rough guide on how to rip the HVAC out and possibly remember how you took the gauges out? I know how to remove the entire waterfall (yay for boredom!) and the center console, just not sure how to go about it for those two pieces. Oh wait.. the HVAC is on the waterfall.. ok so I'm only concerned with the gauges now

Haha if I get time this weekend I'll try to remember to bring my camera out with me.

Chels, grab the dash surrounding the gauges. The insert, not the dash dash, and pull straight towards the steering wheel, firmly but not so hard that when the clips let you you're going to mash the piece into the steering wheel. After that, unclip the two plugs and unscrew the two screws. After that, pull the top a little but with your fingers, and the other two clips will let go. When they are loose, just lift the whole thing out. Problem is, mileage is recorded in the cluster...

So the xD should really be called the Lego car

Hrm I thought the mileage (ODO) information was stored somewhere else instead. Thats how it works with the tC's I think. Dunno..

I'm not 100% positive, as I only drove >1 mile when I had my dash out to run and get fuses from advanced, but when I plugged it back in I don't think the mileage counted. Also, I've heard that if you fry your cluster doing swaps, your title shows as you not having original mileage. That would probably be due to the mileage being stored in the cluster, I would think.

Mileage is stored in your individual cluster, the same as it is for many many many cars. The tC stores it the same way. If you replace the cluster it will show the mileage that cluster has stored.

Tmrepp, I think she was talking about the knobs on the HVAC, not the cluster. The cluster is easy cheesy.

I was talkin aboout the actual gauges, not the HVAC :)

So then if you did unplug the gauges completely, what would you do about putting miles on? This type of stuff I have no clue about so yea, thats why I'm confused.

Ahhh gotcha... my bad you said HVAC and gauges in the same sentence... that's what got me!

ChelsDS, if you take the gauges out and drive, your car will not accrue those miles in the cluster. Whether this is an issue to you or not is entirely up to you...

As far as removal of the gauges, here's a quick guide:

First remove the trim from the dash (the piece that goes around the cluster) it just pops out of it's clips. I put the steering wheel all the way down and started pulling from the bottom. It will just come right out.

Next, you will see 2 wiring harnesses plugged into the cluster. Remove those by pressing in the tabs and pulling straight out.

Once those are out, remove the 2 screws at the bottom of the cluster that hold it to the dash. DO use a magnetic screwdriver. You do not want to drop those screws. Place screws somewhere safe (I used my cupholder).

Last step, pull on the gauge cluster from the top. There are 2 clips left holding it in behind the top part of the gauges. They will pop out with a bit of pull.

Then you just tilt it out and you're good!
