View Full Version : xA in SNOW
zdawg913 12-06-2004, 08:49 PM Well it didn't come until now, but it sure came allright - the SNOW is here in central NY! I hate snow, but what can you do? A few weeks ago I took off the Enkei's and Yoko's and put on Blizzak winter tires and steelies (15" package) and today we got like 7 inches of snowfall throughout the day... lets just say its a blast driving the xA in the snow... and the traction control on our RS1's are very underrated... it handled quite well in the snow and didn't really slide much (it did when turning faster than average speed) but overall it was cool.... even managed to do some donuts in the school lot during lunch
kacosta 12-06-2004, 10:07 PM I love ny lived grew up in queens then moved to dutchess county hated the snow loved the food of little italy and the jewish delis miss ny but not the f#$%ing snow !! glad you are haveing good itmes in your xa rs1
zdawg913 12-06-2004, 10:22 PM haha i dont really like snow but you get used to it. its fun in its own unique way. but yeah the rs1 is pretty good so far... lets see how it holds up :-)
kacosta 12-06-2004, 10:42 PM o yea you defenetly get used to it i commuted every day down the taconic parkway from fishkill to scarsdale for work
and even when it snowed heavy i wish it snowed more frequently in my low elevation location
XaRS0888 12-07-2004, 07:54 AM i'm going to take my rs1 to snowboarding next year. good to know it handles well.
JMD83 12-07-2004, 02:30 PM Got a light dusting of snow last night around here... Gone by the time I had to drive this morning. Guess I have to wait some more before I get a taste of my xA RS in the white fluffy stuff!
Sprockett 12-11-2004, 07:17 AM I drove my xA in the snow with my 17s on, and I was scared ____less...and I am good with driving cars. I was spinning the wheels in fifth gear :x I switched to the stock rims, and now everything's good again.
XaRS0888 12-11-2004, 07:54 AM what kind of tires do you have?
florencescion 12-11-2004, 03:00 PM I hate snow, but what can you do?

He could also just install high powered heat guns in his fog light sockets and melt the snow before it hits his tires...
fugeelama 12-11-2004, 05:34 PM He could also just install high powered heat guns in his fog light sockets and melt the snow before it hits his tires...
Isn't that part of the James Bond package for the xA? In addition to the ejector seat, and rear-deck-mounted surface-to-air missile launcher...
zdawg913 12-11-2004, 07:16 PM hahaha, thats funny. i dont mean i hate it, i dont really like driving in it but we had a storm today and it looks beautiful out... haha... going to take the xA out for some donuts around the neighborhood soon, ill try to make a video and take pics of it too haha

Kremtok 12-11-2004, 11:59 PM I've been getting snowed on since September! No problems with the xA at all, and I don't even have the traction control. Winter tires are a must, though. I got some Blizzaks from Tire Rack and put them on the stock steel wheels. It's a vast improvement over the all season tires that come standard.
dante_b 12-12-2004, 12:03 AM poor guy......hes got frost bite :(
zdawg913 12-12-2004, 03:19 PM nice pic sprockett.... take the rims off and put winters on ahh!
xAwahl 12-14-2004, 05:14 AM We just had our first flurries here in Lexington KY...cant wait to see how the xA is goin to do... 8)
TakumiJr 12-27-2004, 07:03 AM I think this is the longest it took me to get home from work. 15mph the whole way with a lowered car with bald tires, but teh scion sure look sweet in teh snow though.
Epitrochoid 12-27-2004, 05:18 PM We got our first snow last night. The xA RS did good. The only problem was I let the tail come out too far on one turn (e-brake enduced) and it did a 180. The xA seems to need more opposite lock than other small hatches I've had.
Lots of fun!
JMD83 12-28-2004, 12:39 AM Got a chance to get a feel for my xA RS over the last couple days in the fluffy white stuff... Performs excellent in my opinion... Trac Control, VSC, ABS all work wonderfully... Especially when I purposefully engage them during stunts in an empty parking lot! Very pleased with how it got around during the last storm we just had which dumped over a foot on us! I may even leave the 17's on thru the rest of the season. (Or maybe not...)
:) :) :) :)
UndyingVisage58 12-28-2004, 02:28 AM whats snow? i live in the southern california DESERT!  :(
I live in the desert now too, but I'm from NY originally and used to live in VT, so I know snow! The TRAC is pretty useful though, even on wet roads. All you have to do is it the switch to turn it off and try driving on a wet or icy road for a while without it and you quickly see what a help it is.
xB driver here, but I love the xA's and I applaud Toyota for making the RS with some extra goodies like TRAC. Very cool and I love the red color. :)
JJsxA 01-03-2005, 04:17 AM Just spent 3 days with cables on my xA. I'm sure it will hurt my mpg, since I never drove over 25 mph with them on. Took them off today but they are calling for more snow. This is one reason I don't plan on lowering my car. Until the road got plowed I was nearly high centering in places but the car did great even though the snow was about 1.5' deep. Hated the vibration on my new car when having to go from ice to clear pavement on the third day so removed the cables. I still have the stock Eagle LS tires on stock rims and plan on leaving it that way, atleast until I wear the tires out. Car seemed to do fine after removing cables. Of course I drive sensable and use caution when going from dry pavement to ice. No complaints about the car or the tires yet.
