(I figured i'd post this up to help anyone that may be new to wheels+tires.)

Alot of people can be confused when it comes to the sizes of tires. P###/##R-##

It'll take 1 minute for me to explain to you :)

The best way to explain is to use an example. For this example, i'll use my tire size:

P215/35R-18 ( simplified as--> 215/35-18 )

P-----> The P denotes the tire as being a Passenger vehicle tire

215--> The 215 denotes the measurment of the WIDTH of the tire (in milimeters, 215mm)

35-->35 denotes the Height-to-Width Ratio. That aspect ratio of height to width here in our example is 35 The height of the tire (aka--> Profile or sidewell) is 35% the width of the tire. So if the width of the tire was 100mm, then the height of the tire would be 35mm. Or if the width was 200mm, the height of the sidewell, or profile, would be 70mm, and so on.

R---> R identifies Radial Construction.

18---> The last number, in our case 18, is the diameter from bead to bead on our tire. The 18 denotes that this particular tire fits, and ONLY fits an 18" rim

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y98/lebmoon5/box.jpg

Simple huh? :P

Next i'll explain the speed designation of tires: The speed rating of a tire is really nothing more than an expression of how well the tire will withstand the temperatures of high speed. Also, this does not necessarily mean that a high speed rated tire will perform better at low speeds than a lower rated tire.

Lower rated tires are usually made from a harder rubber and last longer than softer high speed rated tires. So my advice is that if you don't plan on going 100+mph then don't buy such a tire, they'll only wear more quickly!

Speed ratings:

F / 50mph
G / 56mph
J / 62mph
K / 68mph
L / 75mph
M / 81mph
N / 87mph
P / 93mph
Q / 100mph
R / 106mph
S / 112mph
T / 118mph
U / 124mph
H / 130mph
V / 149mph
Z / 149+mph

The 4×100 bolt pattern is fairly common, however, the steel wheel has a Toyota centerbore (54.1 mm) so most likely you will be limited to Scion xA, Scion xB, Toyota Celica (1988-1989), Toyota Corolla (1988-2001), Toyota Corolla Wagon (1988-1996), Toyota Echo, Toyota MR2 (1986-1990), Toyota Paseo, Toyota Tercel (1989-1998), Toyota MR2 Spyder (2000-).

If you are running 195/60R15 on a Scion, you are already taller than factory spec (185/60R15). if you run a 225/45R17 on a Scion, you will be 5.19% taller than factory setting. This is even taller than the 215/35R19 tires for the 19" application. There's a good chance you're going to see rubbing issues, plus at 50mph, you will be going 52.6mph and when your odometer shows 1000 miles, you will actually have traveled 948.09 miles. It's recommended to stay within 3% of OE sizing if you want to keep the speedometer and odometer accurate. I'd go 215/40R17. If you'd like a bit more meat, then perhaps 225/40R17 which is only 1.46% larger than stock.

42 Offset is really conservative. The wheels will definately tuck under the fenders. Of course, it will all depend on the width of the wheel. There's no way to tell fitment without knowing the width... 42 offset on a 7" wide wheel versus 42 offset on a 8½" wheel will give you different results. I know if you run a 7½" width, ET35 is pretty much flush in the front, and for the rear, ET20-25 would probably be ideal.

Hey ChickenAdobo, (man now I'm hungry... lol), I actually work in the industry and we had some 17×7.5 ET35 Antera wheels that I test fitted to my xB. Then I went underneath to see how much more room I had on the inside of the wheel before hitting the suspension and how much more room I had on the outside to make it flush with the fenders. I also have a chart that compares different offsets with different wheel widths to give me an idea of what will work, and what probably wouldn't.

The 15×7 ET35 will fit no problem. The wheels should sit pretty close to how the factory wheels sit. If you could find an ET25 wheel with a 7" width it would fill the wheel well nicely.

I don't recommend using a 225/60R15 tire on a Scion... way too big. You would be increasing overall diameter to almost 8% over OE height. When we fit aftermarket wheels on vehicles here we won't go over 3% to keep odometer.speedometer measurements within reason. You would be increasing total wheel height by almost 2" and when your odometer reads 1,000 miles you would be at 920 actual miles. You would be 3/4" taller than the 19" (215/35R19) guys, plus the tire would be wider as well. Unless you put a serious lift kit on the box, I'd use a different tire. If you don't want to stick with the factory 185/60R15, I'd probably do 205/55R15 on a 7" wide rim. A 225 tire on a 7" wheel will have the tire ballooning out a bit and may look funny.

Both the Scion and the Honda Accord use 12mm lug nuts with a 1.5 pitch. By "a couple of mm off", what are you referring to? What kind of wheels do you have? It would be best to check with the manufacturer / distributor of that brand of wheel to see if the hardware is the same on their toyota and honda fitments. Another thing to keep in mind is that the 4-lug Honda Accord is a 4×114.3 bolt pattern and the Scion is a 4×100 bolt pattern so unless your wheel has a dual bolt pattern drilled in (8 lug holes on the wheel all together, 4×100 & 4×114.3), it will not fit. Lastly, the Accord has a centerbore of 64.1mm. If the wheel you currently have is hubcentric to the Accord, then the hole in the center of the wheel should have a diameter of 64.1mm. Since the Scion has a centerbore of 54.1mm, you will need a center ring that has an outer diameter of 64.1mm and an inner diameter of 54.1mm (IF your wheel is hubcentric to the Accord). If your wheel is NOT hubcentric to the Accord (the hole in your wheel is not 64.1mm in diameter), then the center ring you will need has an inner diameter of 54.1mm and an outer diameter to match the hole in the wheel. Once again, it would be best to check with the manufacturer or distributor of your brand wheel to see what hardware they have for proper fitment.

Could someone tell me why 225/40/18's on a 18 x 7.5 wheel is too wide, but yet you can go with 225/40/18 on a 18 x 9.0 rim I want to know.

gulp35

Probably because the 225 tires are nearly 9 Inches wide. so placing them on a 9 inch wide wheel would be good. on the other hand putting a 9 in ch tire on a 7.5 wouldn't be so good.

It does not mean that you have to use the exact wheel tire combo

The FAQ was just pointing out what works so far

people need to post or pm their wheel combo so we can update the FAQ

I don't know much about how to select wheels and tires. My dealer recommended I get Kosei K-1 Racing Wheels and Yokohama AVS ES100 205/55VR15 high performance tires for the summer. Can anyone tell me whether this was a good recommendation? Any pros and cons to these choices?

Well, I just got my Kosei wheels and Yokohama tires on yesterday and can I say how HUGE an improvement these are in comparison to the stock wheels and tires? My xB now handles like it's driving on rails. It feels so much more solid on the road. I've taken the curved off-ramps from highways at fairly high speeds and the car grips the road like you wouldn't believe!

Okay, those non-newbie car enthusiasts are probably saying "duh!" but for those of you who never really paid much attention to modifications and such on cars like me, believe me when I say how significant a difference tires can make.

If the change from all-season to summer performance tires is any indication of benefits, I am DEFINITELY going to get dedicated winter tires for next winter. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be many winter tires on the market that fit our cars--at least that's what the tire shop I went to said.

Does anyone know about or can recommend a good winter tire for the xB?

Thanks,

OK guys, the info posted here is great... and normally that'd be all the info I'd want... BUT I've fallen in LOVE with a set of wheels that are discontinued.... I've only found them in 2 places that have any left... one has a set of 16's in a silver finish that'll work... BUT one place has in stock 17's in a polished finish that I'd much rather have, they are 17 x 7.5 with an offset of 45... I'm really stupid when it comes to wheels and I'll admit it. I see the fitment chart showing a max offset of 40... Can I use spacers to compensate? I really have my heart set on these rims and want to see if there is anyway to make this happen..

any and all help appreciated.

just curious as to when do you know when you need spacers? also, i understood that they go between your wheel and tire but have seen some put behind the rear hub is that right? one more question what does it mean to roll the fenders? thanks a bunch....

ive never seen spacer behind the hub/drum brakes?

only time you need spacers
A) if you want your wheels flush with the rear fender
B) if you are having rubbing issue in there rear suspension part(you bought the wrong offset wheels or wheel design)

rolling fenders
pushing up on the fender lip so it will give a little more room for your wheel
should be done professionally in my opinion

heres an article on rolling fenders

The spacer behind the spindle is designed for camber.
It is an uneven wedge if you will.
People here use them for camber to get wider wheels to fit without to much modification.
Not my style but it accomplishes what was desired.

Ok, I guess its about time I posted my 411. I have a TCM xB on TEIN coilovers. They are set at 2.5 inch drop up front, and 2.0 inch drop in the rear. I'm running 17x7.5 Buddy Club wheels w/ +42 offset. The tires are 215/40-17 Nitto Neo-Gens, and I am also running a 3 mm spacer in the rear. No problems at this time and I have put almost 2k miles on this set-up.

I guess I should also post my setup since mine is probably the less common one.

Set-up back in June of 2k3:

Tires: 225x40x18 on all 4 corners
wheels: 18x7.5 42mm
Springs: Spy 2" drop lowering Springs
Spacers: 5mm in the rear only (to bring the wheel out more)

Rubbing in the rear: Yes
How to fix: Cut the small piece of plastic from the inner splash guard where the tire
is rubbing. NO MORE RUBBING after this simple fix.

Rubbing in the front: Yes
How to fix: cutting a small piece of plastic from the inner plastic fender where the tire is rubbing, but with a 2" drop, you will still rub agains the fastener that holds the bumper to the fender. Switched to 215x35x18 and no more rubbing.

Current Setup @ 28.5K miles:

Tires: 215x40x18 int Front 225x40x18s in the back:
wheels: 18x7.5 42mm
Springs: Spy 2" drop lowering Springs
Spacers: 5mm in the rear only (to bring the wheel out more)

I love this setup over the previous setup because the 215x40x18s is more forgiving when hitting bumps vs. 215x35x18s (more tire between the road and the rim). I also like the subtle wheel staggered look.

Rubbing in the Front: Yes, only when turning the wheel all the way left/right.
Rubbing in the back: None.

I hope this helps

215/50/16 on a 16 X 7.5 rim with 38 offset. No problem with the tires rubbing against the wheel wells. However did experience two minor problems. First in the right front the brake caliper was grinding against the inner bore of the rim. Made a small groove. Solve it by switching the left and right front wheel (knew this would work as I had tried them this way the previous week during a trial run). On the back had to grind down the small circular support plugs which protrude out and rub against the front inner side of the rear tires. The left side one rubs more than the right side. Another solution to this problem would be the use of two small spacers. which would also bring out the rear wheels a little more. But that wouldn't work with my hubcentric rings. Note, car has not been dropped. But with the bigger wheels the gap is more noticeable.

6/9 Update: Discovered that the right front wheel (outer part of the wheel) was catching on a protruding part of the wheel well assembly (where the two portions overlap). However it would only happen after going in reverse with the wheel turned all the way over to the right. Then when we went forward, the outer edge of the wheel would somehow catch on the wheel well and we would hear a slight, but noticeable, thump. Think we solved the problem by cutting about a 1/4 of an inch off the protruding wheel well assembly with a shear.

ok guys i was looking around at the fabulous kits, you know the deeeep dished wheels and stuff.
well on there website it said the wheels they were using were 18x8.5 +18 offset 90mm outer rim (special low disk) in the front,
and 18x9.5 +18 offset 103mm outer rim (special low disk) in the back, and the tires are 225/35 ZR 18 on all 4 of them.

its listed at the very bottom of the bB and ist pages.

but i guess you would have to use there Inferno suspension kit to get them to fit properly.

Will a 15x7 w/+31 offset wheel w/205/55/15 tires fit on an xB with ~2inch drop. What is an ideal offset to fill the wheelwellson an xB if this fitment is not? I'm a newb to xBs, but not to modifying cars and I'm just doing my homework before making a purchase.

Thanks in advance for the help!

REMINDERS:

Be sure to check your lug wrench AFTER getting new wheels. The stock one doesn't work on my wheels because its not thin enough to fit around the lugnut without hitting the rim. I bought a folding star wrench.

Also, you may want to put some stock lugnuts in with your spare in case the aftermarket ones don't work right with the donut.

If you are lowered, make sure the stock jack can fit under your car or buy something that will.

Planning ahead for these things is easier than finding out when you're stranded on the road. Unless it's pouring down rain or a really bad spot, AAA is just too slow for me.

I am getting these rims in 18x7.5!!!!!

http://www.wheelpros.com/wheels/detail.cfm?id=511

I am planning to get 215/35/18 tires!

I am not worried about rubbing problems, cuz I haven't lowerd it yet.

My question, what I do about offsets? need spacers? Lemme know! (I read this whole thread but I figured I like to hear myquestion get answered directly!)

I'm very excited to get my silver xB in the next week. I am in absolute love with the Racing Hart C4s, and would like to roll on these 18s:

http://www.racerwheel.com/wrac-pkg-c41pc.htm

I don't see an offset here, but I can't find these any cheaper, so I would like to go with racerwheel.com. Can anyone please confirm that these would not rub using 215/35/18s?

thanks so much

Hey yall listen up! There should be no problem of rubbing with 19's on the xb even while it has been lowered. My xb has no rubbing issues at all in the front or rear without using spacers or modifying anything on the car at all. I am running a set of 19x7in. wheels with a 42mm. offset on 215/35/19 toyo proxes4 rubbers and a 2in. Eibach drop and have had no such problems at all. My suggestion is if your in the market for wheels is to go to the knowledgeable wheel shop and pick out your choices of wheeels and have fun remember a narrower wheel with the correct offset equals no rubbing at all

if thats possible what size tire would i need to put a 20 inch rims on the tc at factory height. If its not possible then wahts a good 19 inch rims and tire combo so i wont have alot of tire and alot of space inbetween the wheel well and the tire.

wheel size: 18x7.5 +35mm offset
tire size: 215/40-18

Rubs in front when wheels are turned. Looking into spacers before I start cutting the plastic fenderwell lining.

This info is for an xB.

Front: 19x8 +35 w/215/35/19 Nitto Neo Gens.. Slight rub when cornering and hitting a dip. No rubbing on lock to lock

Rear: 19x8 +25 w/215/35/19 Nitto Neo Gens... Pass side rub only (im sure due to the axel shift the xBs have.

I just purchased and installed 19 x 7.5 (42 offset) R-1 Racing Wheels GTR5, with Falken Aventis 215/35/19 tires. My xB is stock and there are no rubbing issues at all after a very minor trim of the rear inner mud flap. If I can figure out how to post a picture I will do that.

Dont Honda wheels fit the xBs??

I thought they were also +40 offset, 4x100.

And for the tC wouldnt the older subarus be the same??

I used to have a GC body Impreza, and still have 17x7.5, 5x100, +50 offset Advan Kruezer Vs, would they fit a tC????

just put on my rims today. 18x7.5 with 215/35/18's and a +45 in the front and a 20mm spacer in the rear to give me a +25. no rubbing in the rear. in the front I do not notice any rubbing but I haven't lowered my xB yet. I have 10mm spacers to put in the front if I run into a rubbing issue.

I lost so much sleep worring about rubbing issues. i am so happy that they are finally on. :D :D :D

I recently picked up some Sport Max 18x7.5 Hyper Silver wheels @ a good price, the offset is +42, according to the list I read, it was posted that the front wheels would rub @ full lock, my xA is not lowered, and I don't really plan to lower it, I would like to run 215/35 18 tires on these rims, would anybody have any suggestions, could I run spacers on the front to take care of the rubbing issue?? Most of the postings seem to be for xB's. Any help would be appreciated....Thanks

Hey just purchased my rims today with the same rim specs as yours....18x7.5 (42 offset) with 215/35 tires. Just wondering if they rub? (without spacers) If so will I need spacers (front and back) to correct this problem? Currently my xb isn't lowered but I plan on lowering it in the future.

215/35/19 vs 225/40/18

Tire height: 24.93 vs 25.09
Tire width diff: - vs .39 wider (.195 each side of tire)

explain to me why a 225/40/18 inch tire wont fit but a 215/35/19 will. :tap:

what is offset? im looking to sell my stock tc wheels, and wanted to know if they will fit an xb. the offset is +35, so with the xb's offset of +38, does that mean the tc stock wheels are too small or slim (or viseversa) to fit in the xb well? your help would be appreciated.

3mm is no problem.

There are no fixed offsets OEM it is 35mm on a 7 inch rim but to center a 8 inch rim it would be a 47 mm offset.

I have OZ Supperleggera rims 17x8 with 45 mm offset, 225x45 tire, stock suspension no problems rim and tire are 2 lbs lighter then stock rim. OZ is about the stongest and lightest rim you can buy for sane amounts of cash.

On the stock rims I have Yoko AVS ES100 225-45 very good setup
Auto-X I have Kumho 700 race tires, very good setup

@unseen: Your tC wheels will not fit an xB. tC wheels are 5 lug, and xB wheels are 4 lug, so the rest of the measurements are irrelevant.

just wondering why nobody has replied to this with the errors in the stock tire size listed in the first post. stock xB steelies are 15x6. stock xA steelies are 15x5.5. i believe stock tire size is 185/60R15 on both, DEFINITELY that on xB.

the first post says 15x7 in the list of sizes is the stock xB size, which is wrong. then farther down the post it says 15x5.5 for both xB and xA, which is also wrong. xA and xB, despite their similarities, have different part numbers for their wheels as they ARE a different width.

so, as far as i know
xB stock steel wheels: 15x6
xA stock steel wheels: 15x5.5
stock tire size: 185/60R15
an excellent upgrade size for a little more contact patch: 205/55R15, nearly the same diameter, many high performance tires available in this size.

Kremtok
03-01-2005, 04:50 AM
I can verify that the stock tire size on xA is 185.60.15.

Mods -- can we possibly get you to make that change to the beginning of the thread? It threw me way off when I started looking for new rims/tires. 10mm can make a big difference if you are trying to keep your speedometer and/or odometer correct.

On an unrealted note, has anyone had experience with Motegi Trak Lite wheels? I'm thinking of doing those rims with Goodyar F1 GS-D3 in 17 inches. Ya'll have any thoughts?

I'm glad you people like to put custom rims on your Scions... I just ordered a set of OEM tC rims off Ebay for my Dodge Stratus! Go figure. I'll have to open the center bore up by 3mm {1.5mm all around} but I'm not too worried about that.

Anyways my wife just got a 05 tC in Indigo Ink Pearl. About all we got for options were the rear spoiler and remote starter. I also bought a set of the OEM floormats off Ebay {holy crap are those expensive???} No plans to do anything else to this car besides drive the tires off it, but you know how these things change. I know the car has potential to be lots of things but in stock trim, as a daily driver it's almost perfect.

So in any case my Stratus {hand me down from the wife} isn't quite the car that the Scion is but at least we'll have matching rims  Also I get to drive the tC from time to time so that takes some of the sting out. I enjoy this forum and especially all the pictures... all three Scion cars are just great IMNSHO. I've thought about getting one for myself in the future but I'm not sure which I'd pick!

Just wanted to know where do you guys get your spacers, and what type of spacers are you guys using? I'm interested in finding out, since I want to take my friends wheels, which are 16x6.5 +45 offset. I'd like to space them out so it'll fit under my car, but I hate the lug replacement spacers. Let me know. Thanks

Quick question:

I bought a set of 15" Work Euroline DHs off a someone in CA.

Not sure what the offset is, but he suggested 10mm spacers up front and 3mm in back.

Doesn't that sound backwards? Any help would be appreciated.

8j +11... -4.5°

the offset is +11 cuz of 9.53(3/8") OTG(onetongarage)
spacer shims. and another 4mm spacer. on my +25
thus turing it into a near +11 offset.

its not that there isn't.. its just nobody posts tC info up!
anywhos.. everyone's rocking whatever wheelmax or ebay is selling anyways.. so whatever u see on ebay that says..
SCION TC i bet will work.

u should ask gene of allstars to see if he knows anything
about fitmet on a tC.. he did have osmehting to do with that
red one.,. with the hre's.. maybe he knows what offset u should run..

hey i just bought some rota attacks. 15"x6.5" +40 offset. Am I able to run 195/55 15" tires without a problem?

someone here should be able to give you a quick answer?

-I think but don't know- "yes, no problem"
but do not take my guess on it.

am running 195/50/15 on the steel wheels-- there's so much room in the wells that I can hear Echos. )laff(

(cry)

so- what harm could 40 offset make for you? And your width does not matter; that's the stock steel wheel's width and is about ideal for your tire choice-- and very much ideal for my lower profile choice.

If you are running 195/60R15 on a Scion, you are already taller than factory spec (185/60R15)

True, but the speedo was never reset for american market. So the stock 185/60R15 is smaller then the stock JDM tires. JDM runs 185/65R15, so by running the tire you have listed, you will become closer to the perfect 0% error.

Anyway, long story short, I dont do hondas now, but have honda stuff to trade for new fun stuff for my Xb. I have a set of 17 tenzo r pac 10's, they are offset for an acura/honda. I know I'm going to have a problem with the fitment of these wheels. I don't know who to contact about spacers (shims), or extended studs, can anybody help me?

I Just bought some Racing Hart 18x7.5 rims with a et42 and some goldline springs with van's rear shims..

What are my tire options for good fitment a 215/35/18 i know will fit but i'd like somthing bigger.
.
and will my goldlines be too low?

as well as should i get some 5mm spacers for the front from van(onetongarage)?

thanks for any and all info.

Hey just purchased my rims today with the same rim specs as yours....18x7.5 (42 offset) with 215/35 tires. Just wondering if they rub? (without spacers) If so will I need spacers (front and back) to correct this problem? Currently my xb isn't lowered but I plan on lowering it in the future.

did you ever get a response to your questions?

i'm planning on buying some 18x7.5 +42 rims.... how did they work out for you...

i currently have 2" goldline with 17x7 and have no issues... you think i'll run into any if i goto the larger size? thanks for any help in advance.

They will fit up front but you may have some contact between the lip on the backside of the rim against the rear suspension cage.

I have 18 x 7.5 40mm offset, and before i put some OTG shims in i had litereally about a hair width of room between the backside lip and the cage.

Having never owned an xB or anything like it, would I have problems with 17x7 +40 offset on a 06 xB as far as fitment around suspension is concerned, I noticed alot of people posting issues about the rim hitting something in the rear, trying to avoid that...also looking for a good tire size, I was looking at 215/40/17 which indicates only about a 1mph speedo throw off.

I have a tC lowered on TRD springs.

Orlando and the guys at Auto Innovations did a great job mounting and balancing my rims and tires, as well as doing a much-needed alignment.

Rims:
RO_JA Formula 5 in gunmetal, 17x7, 5x100mm, +42mm offset, 70.5mm hub bore, 15.8 lbs. each (I weighed 15.5 on my bathroom scale, but that only has .5 lbs. precision).

I have plastic hubcentric rings with 54.1mm ID, 70.5mm OD, and it seems to work fine. No vibrations.

I had McGard spline lugs in black installed as well.

Tires:
Pirelli P-Zero Nero M&S, 225/45/17

The paint sucks on the rims. I can already see a couple of nicks on the inner part of a couple of the wheels where paint is already coming off. I will probably have to get these powdercoated or something at some point. How much would that run me, and would it be durable? Add a lot of weight?

I'll have pics up in the other sticky thread soon.

P/C adds no extra weight (as they chemically remove the old paint first) and ran me $50/wheel about 10 years ago. Well worth it I say. Cheers.

i just read over the initial post, i just have a little twist to add. Don't assume that every tire has the same width and height. I don't know why but different manufactures measure tires a little differently. Here's an example of what i am taking about. Both Falken and Yokohama make a 205.45.17 tire. Falkens 512 and Yokohamas AVS ES 100 These two tires are not the same width. The AVE ES 100 is wider and if used on a 17x7 wheel with a 40 Offset will rub on an XB without spacers. The Falken 512 will not. ???? Don't ask me why, manufactures (foreign) are a little odd. FYI

20x7.5 . . . . . . . 45 . . . . . . . . . . . . . 215/35-20 . . . . Rear needs 5mm spacer Front loses full turning radius (hits tow hook inside fender) Also fender needs to be moved back 1" towards pass/driv floor board.

If someone could add this to the first page please.

Yeah. . . I love 'em. . . decreases the wheel gap a bit, and actually doesn't mess the speedo up too badly. In fact, I think I think it's more accurate on taller tires. By driving by those portable police radar speed displays, I found that my speedo is pretty damn accurate, even up to 75mph, it was still dead on. Maybe the stock speedo is grossly off?

The butt dyno doesn't feel much of a difference. . . and the car rides fine. I find that keeping the PSI high definitely helps.

17x7.0 . . . . . . . 38 . . . . . . . . . . . . . 215/45-17 . . . . xB stock

This implies then that the overall tire height will be equal to the stock tires, therefore not affecting speedometer?

I really should know the answer to this but I want a professional opinion.

xB. With DF210's.

Wanting to get 15 OR 16x7" wheels with with +35 or +40 offset.

First, which would be the better offset? (I would like the wheels to look fat y0)

Second, what is the best tire size to get maximum width and contact points, (I want them to look as wide as possible but not rub)

Thanks a bunch!

on a 15x7 wheel you want a 40 offset, and tire size you could probably go 215/55/15.

So +40 should be cool for 16x7, too? Along with like a 215/40 or 45 tire?

I am pretty steamed about this - I bought the wheels as a dealer option, motegi FF7s, which are offered by every dealer in my area. how could anyone possibly have thought that these fit? I have only had them on a short time...I bought them with the car, but soon swapped out the stockers for winter. I have only actually run a few thousand miles in them, but tonight, as I was installing some spacers, I found that the spacers were going to be much more than just a cosmetic mod.

215/50/16, 16x7=24-5 height..

They make up the difference between the hole of the wheel and the size of the hub. Basically centering the wheel on the hub so there is no wobble. Hope this clears it up for ya.

What the 54.1 and 72.6 above mean to you is that the Scion has a 54.1mm diameter 'bump' sticking out of the middle if the place you will mount your wheel, and there is a 72.6mm diameter 'hole' in the back center of the wheel that goes over that bump.

To make the two match, so that the bump keeps the wheel properly centered on the axle, you need a 'hubcentric ring' that has an outside diameter of 72.6mm and a hole in it's middle of 54.1.

When the ring is put in the wheel's hole and then the whole works put on the car, everything is properly centered. All the lugs and lug nuts do is hold the wheel on - they don't really play a part in centering the wheel.

Hope that made some sense. :D

OOHHHHHH yes now i understand....we tried to fit my wheels on a friends jetta cause he wanted to buy them.....thats the problem we ran into but we thought it had something to do with the brakes....the jetta's bump thingy was bigger than the tc's so they wouldn't go on....is there any way to bore out the hole in the wheel to make it fit on the jetta's or is that asking for way too much work? the measurement came out that we would need an extra 1/16th of an inch all around.....

Tomas
05-06-2006, 07:37 AM
A machine shop COULD machine out the center to the proper size on a lathe, but it would be a very exacting job that most probably wouldn't want to do. Get that center bore off-center, and you've just ruined a wheel.

4Hx100 @ 14x6.5 +40

Will they fit on an xB?

The offset is OK, its 4 lug, etc...........I just didn't know about having a 14" on there, if it will clear everything.

Yeah, I know everyone is doing huge 18" rims and whatnot.............but these rims are *really* unique.

Tomas

There have been some 14s on some xBs, but it depends on the design of the wheel itself on whether or not it will fit and clear. I don't know of any way to assure that without test fitting the actual wheels.

anything will fit. how much money do you want to spend to get it to work properly is the question.

spacers work great, anything over a 5mm you will want longer studs inorder for the lugnuts to "bite" properly. either that or a wide-tread spacer that includes new studs already. it will turn your +20 rim to a +40 or more depending on how far you push it out. 17 x 9 with a +20? how deep is that dish? that sounds like some serious lipage....

Finally finished installing 215/50-17 tires on my xA. Had to do a slight amount of trimming on the front plastic wheel well liners. Also had to do some fairly heavy hammer work on the back of the front fender wells. Finished the job by applying undercoat and a tube of black GE silicone II. Looks great, hard to tell any work was done in the fender wells. Rear installation required no mods at all.

With the larger tires, engine RPM at 70mph is now 7% lower, its like having a 6th gear.

I put 205/55/15's on my stock alloy wheels, they fit great, look great. The guys at Just Tires said he was amazed they fit so well, looks like how it should have been all along. I have no rubbing problems at all. The only thing you should be aware of is with the wider tire the car will "track" more, that is follow the road groves/bumps. I notice this only at low speeds, on the hiway its fine.
As for speedo issues, no issue, less than .07% faster, at 60 it is actaully 60.4 not noticible at all.

So how noticeable is the change in ride quality for you after you put your 16s on? Are you satisfied with the comfort? I just don't want to fork out a bunch of money then be unhappy with my "box" because the ride is rough.

The change in ride quality is very noticeable with my 16's, but I love my 16's and wouldn't trade'em for anything, the cornering grip is so tight, especially with suspension mods

I have heard that 17's with 215/40's is a rough ride and potholes and bumps can be bone-jaring at times, that's why I went with 16's, but then again a ton of people do have 17's so maybe it can't be that bad.....

How are the roads in Red Bluff, it's rural up there right? are there a ton of potholes and road imperfections? might wanna consider that. I here it is hot as hell up there in the summer, like the oven of Northern Cali.

Hope this helps...

I am running 205/45-17 Toyo Proxes 4 tires and am VERY happy with them. When the 215/45s wear out I probably will end up with 215/40s. I started out with the narrower width tire to be on the safe side of fitment for when I eventually lowered the xB.

I did not notice much of a decrease in ride comfort with the 205/45. There is slightly more road noise at highway speeds on certain road surfaces, like worn/eroded concrete.

Last night I installed TRD springs. Today I am seeing only 20mm of the expected 30mm drop. Once the suspension sets I will be able to check/verify for proper clearance for the 215 width.

Just installed my new wheels!

Motegi RT5, 17x7, 42 offset with Falken Ziex 215/45-17 tires. Happy to say that there is zero rubbing, no spacers needed. Full lock turns are fine. There is 1/8"-3/16" between the tire and swingarm. No need to grind the tooling boss off the swingarm.

Two things...the setup is only 1" in diameter difference or 1/2" taller ride height but the car looks really tall now. Needs a drop! And I am thinking of OTG 10mm rear hub spacers too. The front looks so good now, the rears could stand to push out more. Looks like plenty of room for 10mm, probably could go 20mm without too much trouble.

Ride is similar to stockers. Maybe slightly stiffer @40psi, but not a day/night difference. No freeway or potholes yet though.

Sure looks better!

^^^Not sure what your current offset is but I would guess it would be around a 42 since it's the Enkei 18 x 7.5's...If so, I believe a OTG 10mm shim would be perfect...It would put you at a 32 offset...The shims are easy to install as stated in my earlier post!

The higher the offset, the further the wheel is to the inside of the fender well....The lower the offset the closer they are to the outer fender...It sounds like you need a 5mm spacer from onetongarage.com

hey man i dont think that spacers will work, but correct me if i'm wrong,my tires rub on the inside , in the back of the tire, when i turn so if i put a spacer it will force it even more into the wall? right ? i think i'm gonna go and try to trim some of the plastic well wall out, just where the plastic over laps itself. so i should'nt mess up the quality of the well wall. and that should give me atleast 3/4 of an inch space. would that be enough? right? thanks again, BB.

wheel size: 18x7.5 +35mm offset
tire size: 215/40-18
suspension: Hotchkis Springs/Anti-Sways

Rubs in front when wheels are turned. Looking into spacers before I start cutting the plastic fenderwell lining.

Rears are fine. Hey man What did you do about your rubbing?

0 off set is half of whatever the rim width is.

Okay I've looked through this and I couldn't find it, but lets say I want 15x8 with +25 offset. How will that look different from the stock wheels. Will it fill out the gap just enough or will it pertrude out of the fender? I want them to be just flush with the fender after I drop the car. I'd probably run 205/50/15 for tires.

17x7.0 et38 offset with 205/40/17 tires and with 25mm rear wheel spacers. rear fenders are cut, never rubs, very very low...
