I'm still learning the whole offset game and I've looked in the sticky for wheel fitments, but I still don't quite understand it.

I'm looking at some 18x7.5" wheels with a +40 offset. Will these fit ok? How will the look? I REALLY love when the wheels are kinda flush with the fender lip (not really sticking out or in), but definately in more than out!

Can anyone draw me a mental image of what that would look like? Or better yet, post pics of a car that might have the same offset?

My wheels are 17x7.0 inch, running 215/40s +40 offset and I just added the rear shims from onetongarage.com. (basically giving it a +30 offset) They sit closer to flush with the sideskirts now. I'm still tempted to add 5mm more...

Okay, I'm still trying to figure out the offsets as well, I admit it.

Can someone tell me if the ideal offset changes for each wheel type/manufacturer/model?

I have an xA and I want to run 17's w/a 40 series profile tire to avoid damage to the rims and preserve the ride quality. My problem is trying to get a rim with the perfect offset to end up flush with the fender like the picture above. I hear spacers ruin your bearings in the long run due to a newly created side bearing load, which can't be good.

Thanks! That helps give me a good idea, however, since it is SO low, it is still a little hard to tell.

You guys want flush wheels you really(REALLY) need to go lower offset. Look around for those guys that run lower offset wheels on the xB. some use(depending on wheel design) down to +9!!! I settled for +20 in therear. The lip of the wheel is flush with the fender. Maybe even a hair outside. The fronts I have seen from +25 to +12!!! Once again flush with teh fender. That's a far cry from +40. I would stay away from spacers if possible. You have to have everything lined up just right to not get any wobble. Expect to pay a little extra for the wheels if this the kind of look you want. It doesn't come cheap.

my old wheels were 17X7 w/ a plus +10 offset...that flushed out pretty much on the front looked real nice..the rears i could push it out like 5 more mil to flush on stock camber..if i were to tilt i can poke it more

I haven't even seen any wheels for sale with a 4x100 bolt pattern and that offset! What kind of wheels do you have?

As far as I know, he's not running spacers, but don't quote me. As for different offsets, the back fenders sit farther out from the axle hub, so you'll see guys pushing their rims out toward the edge of the car.
