View Full Version : front hinged hood himynameischris 06-28-2008, 04:03 AM anyone done it on a tC? ive seen it on and xB what should i buy to attempt it? dwaine 06-28-2008, 06:52 AM http://fastscions.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=613 superwhiteTC20 06-28-2008, 04:30 PM He means a hood that opens backwards with the hinge in the front instead of the back, not shocks. I can't really help you find them but just clarifying for you...GL sounds like a cool idea! dwaine 06-30-2008, 01:00 AM oh my bad... sort of like a 'vette??? Spicy_McHaggiz 06-30-2008, 01:28 AM he wants it to open like a Corvette yes Big_Bird 06-30-2008, 01:31 AM I think it might look odd, because the tC hood is so large. freep 06-30-2008, 02:35 AM I think it might look odd, because the tC hood is so large. x2.....it works on the xb b/c the hood it tiny Kyle713 06-30-2008, 03:12 AM yeahh, it would look nice if it opened to the side tho Spicy_McHaggiz 06-30-2008, 06:12 AM I think it might look odd, because the tC hood is so large. Have you seen a Corvettes hood? Its not exactly small CDogbert 06-30-2008, 06:15 AM Meh, this falls under the "sure it's different, but is it worth it?" category for me. Think of all the work (and subsequent headache) you would have to put in to get this to work. Now a split hood that opens to the engine bay like a cabinet... :D Big_Bird 06-30-2008, 12:22 PM I think it might look odd, because the tC hood is so large. Have you seen a Corvettes hood? Its not exactly small Yea and they are very large, but they hinge into the the front end. part of the hood disappears into the front end which makes it look good. As with the tC, the hood would droop over the front end, which, imho, would not look good. CarbonXe 06-30-2008, 12:35 PM http://image.motortrend.com/f/auto_shows/coverage/detroit/9475747/112_2008_detroit_auto_show_06s+2009_corvette_ZR1+front_three_quarter_view_hood_open.jpg http://images.kitcarmag.com/eventcoverage/0609kc_06_z+knotts_fun_in_the_sun+1975_datsun_280z.jpg I looks good on cars with long narrow hoods. The tC's hood is basically a square. It won't look good at all. freep 06-30-2008, 03:03 PM money is much better spent elsewhere himynameischris 06-30-2008, 10:31 PM i was thinking of running up to a junkyard and get a pair of vette hinges or something and try and retro fit em. x_Batman_x 07-01-2008, 01:18 AM wow that vette must suck to work on... Eltaco 07-01-2008, 01:26 AM Consider the front structure of the tC would not support the weight of the hood. Spicy_McHaggiz 07-01-2008, 04:19 AM wow that vette must suck to work on...' Corvettes are actually extremely roomy in the engine bay, lots of room. And the front would support a hood if it was c/f x_Batman_x 07-01-2008, 04:51 AM well I just meant it must be hard to reach a lot of areas because you can only work from the sides, but hey if its roomy then maybe it doesnt matter lol CDogbert 07-01-2008, 05:11 AM What about a hood that operated like a garage door or sliding doors? How friggin' sweet would it be to just be like "oh hang on let me open my hood", hit a button, and have it retract into your engine bay? Pretty sweet, I say. tC_2NeR 07-01-2008, 05:48 AM remember those clear hoods they had a few years ago those were hot deflaytedwayz1 07-01-2008, 11:11 PM Some buicks and BMW's have a front tilt hood that slides forward over the headlights and upper grille. You should see the older vettes. They even had half of the fender attached too. I think it would be pretty cool to get a set from an older (80-90's) Buick or BMW. Remember that it's not just a slap the hinges on kinda thing. There is probably going to be some bracing issues as well as the new latch assembly. If I were you I would go to a pick-n-pull and take lots of pictures and measurements and then measure the tC and see if it is even do-able. Good luck! SqTc07 04-13-2009, 01:59 AM DONE! Hood opens and closes normally and the hood latch/hook rests on the front pate; http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo255/SqTc07/Flip%20Hood/100_4537.jpg[/img] http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo255/SqTc07/Flip%20Hood/100_4535.jpg http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/oo255/SqTc07/Flip%20Hood/100_4536.jpg CarbonXe 04-13-2009, 02:04 AM That looks retarded lol. Jlowe 04-13-2009, 02:06 AM It's definately.. different. To each their own? SleePi 04-13-2009, 02:18 AM That looks retarded lol. It's a shield for rock chips, so it doesn't hit the windshield. :P x_Batman_x 04-13-2009, 02:36 AM ....I dunno I actually kinda like it definatly gets points for being innovative. Got any more pics? does it still sit well when closed and what does the hinge look like?? Big_Bird 04-13-2009, 02:39 AM That looks retarded lol. I don't think it's retarded, but it def doesnt look good. Chrisb319 04-13-2009, 02:44 AM I've seen it up close and it looks awesome! I was going to post matts car but I was beaten to the punch. Jlowe 04-13-2009, 02:54 AM It's not awful. It's one of the mods I would never have, but like seeing someone else have it. x_Batman_x 04-13-2009, 04:04 AM thanks for updating with more pics. yeah i defiantly dig it. I would never do it, but I still really like it. AcidDrop 04-13-2009, 04:20 AM nice to see it be done, props to you sqtc07 for getting it done. scion_andrew 04-13-2009, 04:29 AM I like it! |
