Default Warranty Question (cars with mods)

If I were to bring my car into the dealer for one of my free oil changes or 5K/10K check up, will they make any type of notation of my non-dealer installed mods (i.e. headers, CAI, etc.). The reason I'm asking is if I have a problem in the future and I put the stock parts back on, will they know/remember I had some bolt on mods before when I bring it in?

yeah and im gonna add a lil to your because im curious as well. If I buy Eibach Pro-Kit springs for the tC (on there website they already have a part number) could I take it to the dealer have them install and have it be under warranty, or is that only with TRD parts?

only with TRD parts. Some less professional dealerships might actually be quite rude to you about it too.

DAMNIT because for my birthday my dad said that he was probably gonna get some eibach springs and maybe the injen exhaust if i kissed ___. but anyways the eibachs are progressive rate and they have higher spring ratings so stiffer in the corners. So anyways if/when I get them my suspension warranty is gone then right?
oh well I still want the springs, btw it lowers it 1.5 inches so Ive gotta take some before/after pix

if ur goin in for the oil change and u have those mods...
its not certain that they will note it, or not note it

it depends on the dealer, tech, and service advisor

my dealer here doesn't note things, UNLESS the car is brought in for a problem, and they have mods on the car that mite be the cause....

so it really depends

it wont void anything!!!!!!

their is a law about this. look on SEMA or something.

an oil change is an oil change. they cant voud you anyting unless that part causes the problem.

yeah theyll make notes of it so you dont screw the warranty Dept.

so if your that concerned dont take the free oil changes and hope your car doesnt brake down because of the headers or something

if you have a problem with the dealer, i think its called the magnasum moss act or something

someone help me out on this?

Ive said it before.

Its not really wise to ask us. Go to the dealer/dealers around you and ask them before you buy the parts. If it does void the warranty ask them which one it is. Not all things are covered under one big warranty.

I was told what ever was touched would not be under warranty. So springs being installed would void shock/strut replacement and suspention components.

Exhaust would void exhaust parts. Mainly stripped bolts, broken hangers, leaking exhaust flanges.....not big at all.

Just ask before installing.

Firesquare, I suggest you do a search and look at some of the other recent threads regarding warranty and aftermarket modifications...

firesquare knows what he is talking about, what you are talking about are some morons that are saying that the dealership won't follow the law

no problem I just think its funny when people pretty much say that the dealers are going to break the law, and get a bad rep doing it

Look guys, if you all are THAT concerned that a mod will void your warranty, then don't put it in your car. Simple as that. Warranties are voided on a case-by-case basis. The dealer has to deem that particular aftermarket part caused the defect to occur. So use common sense here. The dealer will only cover aftermarket parts if they are TRD (or dealership distributed) and dealer installed. If a non-TRD aftermarket part breaks or whatever, consult the warranty that is on the part itself, the dealer will not deal with it. Even then, the warranty on the part will cover only the part itself, not anything damaged because of the failure of the part. So if your car is up because of the part you installed, you're out of luck.

we installed not AC ____zner stuff on cars like short shifers, radar detectios, K-40's and other thinks of the sort. the dealer is responsable for the install and operation of the car.

i.e
John thumb wants a pedal kit he purchased installed on his 330Ci, we install it and give him an hourly estimate.

for say pedals it would be 1.5 @110 an hour

but i had to install a trailer hitch on a 325xiT and the owner paid 6 hours for the install. it took me 8. i loose 2 hours.

but anyway. we (the dealer) is now responsable for the safe operation of the hitch and the mounting and wiring.

i personally wouldnt tow anything unless it had a "tow" package.

so if i get TEIN S-Tech springs and i want the dealer to install them. they are responsable for the setment and alignment (if customer request an alignment which is extra) of the springs

but as BSP_5c10n said. if your that worried don't put it on

cause the reason people are asking is because they want the product but don't want to void their warrenty (which won't happen with most parts) So they are asking if it would void the warrenty, cause they want it, and the only way they will get it is if their beloved warrenty is going to be ok, and they you say, just don't put it on. they want to put it on thats why they are asking your answer was a be safe and don't do it, when they want a answer
