I was thinking on getting the set from www.toyotaparts4u.com and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it. I read the install manual and it looks doable. I'm just worried they will blame it if anything else goes wrong and i'm not paying them to install it. ANyone have it? Was it worth it? How bad was the install?

The Rostra cruise control likely can be obtained from Rostra approved distributors at a more reasonable price. In my area the price from one of those distributors is $187 as I recall. Just go to the Rostra website for that info.

This may be the thread you're thinking of:

I have the one from my dealer, I am not sure about the one @ that site you posted, there are no pictures of what it looks like. All I know is I have almost hit someone else, because it is in the worse location and that green light is so faint you cannot see it if there is any light outside.

I just added a Rostra cruise control unit to my car.

After the dealer quoted me over $300 for the install, I decided to do it myself.

Having never dealt with auto electric in my life, I was pretty nervouse, but everything went perfectly. The whole job took about 3-4 hours going real slow. If I had to do it again, I could probably do it in less than 2 hours.

The wiring diagrams are *almost* right, but not quite. Intuition should fix that problem though. The trouble stems mostly from certain plugs being diagrammed from the back, then front, then back again... that sort of thing.

If anyone decides to do the job themselves, email me with questions.

This may be dumb but will the cruise work in a manual?

Yes, see the Rostra CC kit for Scion web page:

scionlife member "xb ey" also has the cruise control and he has a 5speed manual. Maybe you can PM him for more details on how he is enjoying the power of cruise control. :D

I haven't installed the crusise myself, but have helped others. One thing to watch is that there is a difference between a "white wire with black stripe" and a "black wire with white stripe". One is hot, the other is ground, but both go into the same connector.

Does the Cruise really work? I am thinking about doing it but i just don't want to spend money on something i really don't trust for the long run...i feel like it will work for a couple of months and then just stop...for the people who have cruise control...what brand do you guys have and how long have you guys had it?

Rostra makes cruise control for a lot of OEM applications, so their stuff should be just as reliable as the factory stuff. Their Scion kit is designed with brackets and operating hardware specifically for the Scion. It's good enough that the Southeast Toyota distributor installs and warranties them on new cars. If they were prone to rapid failure I doubt that the distributor would touch them!
