View Full Version : Question
AnthonyC 07-07-2008, 06:29 AM Hey all,
I am not sure if this question has been asked or if this is the right place to post it and sorry I didn't look into the owner's manual for this, when I started the ignition on the car the word "maintenance required" pops up 4-5 times then goes away while I drive. Just wondering should I be worry about it? Has anybody have this problem before on the tC? By the way I had my oil changed last month at the dealership
Let me know
Thanks
Kanchi 07-07-2008, 06:35 AM Has it been doing it since then?
dodaddy 07-07-2008, 06:54 AM I usually got that light when I think it was due for a mileage checkup, in the manual it'll say. It usually gets reset when you get an oil change but one time they forgot and it kept going off, so i called them and they gave me instructions to stop it.
Kanchi 07-07-2008, 07:11 AM Usually it does that on mine when it getting close but stays lit for a while when due. Like dodady says might just need to be reset.
Davie06TC 07-07-2008, 07:37 AM its just an "idiot light" you can make it go away forever if i recall correctly. Let me see if i can find the site again.
Davie06TC 07-07-2008, 07:43 AM how do i clear the 'maintenance required'/oil change light using the trip meter button?
if at the time you changed your oil, you or the person changing your oil did not reset the 'maintanence reqiured'/oil change light or if you would just rather turn it off instead of setting the interval (aka- the lazy way to turn off that annoying light), follow these steps:
step 1
turn the key to the 'on' position.
step 2
reset both trip meters to zero. you can reset the trip meters to zero by selecting trip a or trip b and holding in the trip meter button for five (5) seconds.
step 3
after both trip meters are reset, select any trip meter and hold in the trip meter button and start the car.
step 4
continue holding the trip meter button until the "maintenance required' light disappears.
should work...the site = http://home.cfl.rr.com/icdedppl/faq.html it has a few godd lil tidbits of info :)
Infamous425 07-07-2008, 04:29 PM its just a reminder light. you dont have to follow it. i reset it a different way from the above steps...
with the engine turned off
1. press and hold the trip meter button
2. turn ignition 2 clicks but dont start engine
3. continue holding trip meter button and wait for 'maint req' light to stop flashing
4. done
fyi this also works for honda's

Yes, it has been doing it since then, but it will disappear after 4-5 times
Thanks all for replying back. I will try that out and let you guys know if that works
MNScion 07-07-2008, 06:46 PM As Infamous and Davie said, it is just a reminder light. It is tied to the odometer, not an engine indicator. It will start blinking like that once you hit 4500 miles since it was last set, and will stay on once you hit 5000 miles. It is supposed to be reset at the time of an oil change, but it gets missed quite often.
The light is not telling you there is something wrong. It is just to remind you of the maintenance intervals. No worries!

AnthonyC 07-11-2008, 04:32 AM Just wanted to update you guys and let you know that I tried those two things suggested by Infamous425 and Davie06TC and the light still shows up, but like some of you said don't worry about it so I won't. But thanks again guys for your help
MNScion 07-11-2008, 03:30 PM There are directions in your owners manual. It is page 106 of the 2009 Scion tC owners manual. Here are the directions:
Turn the engine switch to the "OFF" position with the odometer reading shown.
Turn the engine switch to the "ON" position while holding down the trip meter reset knob.
Hold down the knob for at least 5 seconds. the odometer indicates "000000" and the light goes off.
This should work. Good luck.
AnthonyC 07-12-2008, 04:30 AM I will try that out and let you guys know. Thanks!
