View Full Version : For those xB owners that HAVE the Bazooka Subwoofer...

What do you think of it really? Lots of people on other posts chime in, but it is usually people that don't have it saying don't get it.

I am by no means an audiophile, but I do listen to music a lot. I listen to a variety of music from classical to rap and would like the extra low-end that I'd assume the Bazooka tube would put out. I don't want "rattle the windows" bass. I know I could get somthing "bigger and boomier" for that much money, but I just want something to compliment the stock system.

Does it add nice lows? Do you find it sufficient? How is the adjustability of the subwoofer? Can you adjust it from the headunit and the sub or just one or the other.

Thank you for your opinions!

ok, yes I have the bazooka, yes there are better options out there, but to answer your question, I really am quite happy with it, like you I'm not a audiophile, I just like a little extra lowend, the Bazooka tube gives me enough to make me happy. it will still make your rear plate rattle if you want. You set it up by setting all your head unit settings to 0 then turn the volume where you want it, then on the sub there is a little dial you use to dial in the amount of Bass you like. Then after doing that I run the stock head unit on the xB setting with the treble at -1 and bass at +3 works for me.

Plus if I need to haul something it take about 30 seconds to pop it out so I have a little extra storage.

BTW my wife drives a 2004 Matrix xr too. She loves it but now wants a tC!

So is the holder for the tube drilled and screwed into the floor? Is it pretty "clean" looking?

How is the distortion level? Does it distort easily if you turn it up high?

IAxB, regarding the adjustments; do you find yourself having to readjust the knob on the sub for different musics or can you mainly use the Bass setting on the headunit?

Thanks!

i have the bazooka N.O.S. look 8" tube and 250 watt bazooka amp. i picked up both of them for under 200$ and just used a line-out convertor with the stock deck. i've never heard the one that the dealer offers, but mine pounds pretty hard for just being one 8". had to dynamat the whole rear door cuz it shook it so much. plus its got the cool factor cuz it fools 90% of the people that look at it into thinking its real noz.

Just go to the dealer and listen to the one in their demo vehicle. All the demo's I've seen have had it in them. I wasn't impressed for the money. I figured I'd go with a cerwin Vega 8" or something in a small box that could just as easily be removed and get more sound for less money.

I love mine. And frankly, I subscribe to the old Cerwin Vega line, which was:
"Loud is beautiful, if it's clean."

The sub offers low end, and clear low end (none of this pssst fuzz crap that passes for low end nowadays...)

I like to hear the whole range of audio, you know, lows, and highs. And, I'm a sound engineer as well , and frankly, it's fine.

Not knocking those who put in a lot of subs and $$ in their xB's. I'm just saying, that mine is, pound for pound, just fine. And I also dig the fact that I still have storage space back there.

I too am not too picky on my sounds. But I do notice a difference in "richness" of the bass coming from my Bazooka compared to my previous JL Audio sub/enclosure.

The when the Bazooka hits.. it hits to be heard. My previous sub hit to be heard and felt (if that makes any sense)... and it didn't cost as much. I wish I didn't give it away to my sister.

The Bazooka does distort on me on times. But I just adjust that from the settings on the HU. I have only adjusted the setting on the sub once. It was set too low when I bought the car.

I have 2 of the bazooka nos bottles myself. They sound great for the money but I would not get them from the dealer. For the price you pay at the dealer you could get 2 at your local stereo shop.

Jeremy once I set the dial on the sub I've left it alone, any fine tuning I do with the controls on the head unit.

the Matrix xr is available as all wheel drive but only in an auto, we are a manual tranny household so hers is fwd. plus the xr only has 130hp the tC has 160hp. She wants something sportier. Since I have the box that will become the "family" car.

You actually can get them in all wheel drive. My wife has an XR as well, but we opted not to get the AWD. She loves it!

you asked about the bracket, its screwed to the floor the tube sits right behind the left passanger seat, ( right behind my daughters carseat) I think it looks pretty clean. When you pop the sub out just the bracket remains, its not flat to the floor but it lets you get bigger stuff in pretty easily.

I have a 10" tube that took from my other car. I like the way it sounds...It's not going to win any Db Drags, but it sounds good to me. The only problem would be how some of my Mp3 are burned. Some have weird bass/mid settings, so it hard to adjust because I am using just the stock headunit.

i was gonna get a bazoka tube but the sound really isnt that great to me, you can get them at circut city for less than than 200, so i spent an extra 50 an got a infinity basslink, which is awsome, and its smaler than the tube and sounds 10 time clearer, and not to mention its made by infinity,

I have the Bazooka. I was looking for what a lot of people said they were, a little extra bass. I like it, it sounds good to me. And I might get another one just to balance out the look of the the rear cargo area.

Dear germ79... I do not have one because I do not like the sound or physical shape... there are other options (ie under seat) that make much more sense. The 'zooka' is meant to be a boomer not an audiophile speaker... check out the
Polk Audio MMC6500.... about $275.

I got one, and really like it. It will distort on some songs, but has great bass considering it's size. I did have to put some foam behind the license plate to keep it from rattling. Others who have ridden in my car have commented that the bass seems really clean, almost too clean.

I have the bazooka and am happy with it. I am not what you'd call an "audiophile" in the sense of being able to tell the difference between one woofer and another just from listening. I've never had a 160 watt radio in a car before, and never had more than the stock 4 speakers in any car, so to me this is just an amazing improvement.

I suppose if I'd known I could get something like this for less money by shopping on my own I might have done that, except that I am not sure I'd be able to install it myself without making a mess of the car's interior.

Bottom line: for someone like me the bazooka is just fine...great, even.

(btw I freaked myself out yesterday at the gas pump: I left the radio on while I was pumping and saw the license plate buzzing like a wasp's wing. Dang.)

I had one in my 88 mustang but haven't put one in the Xb. Yet. I too am looking for a sub.

In my 88 I had an 8 inch and it gave enough bass for the size of compartment. in the Mustang. I would say it was adequate. For the bigger passenger compartment of the Xb I would think a 10 inch would be a better choice. Also POSITION makes a HUGE differnce with these subs. They HAVE to be corner loaded. I turned the sub around in my mustang once (faceing forward) and the bass was completely almost muted.

I can't take it any longer. Don't waste your money on the bazooka from the dealer. As you've seen from the other posts it doesn't sound good enough particularly for the money. Most local stereo shops should be able to get you into better sound for less money.

The bazooka tube the dealer sales is equivalent to the el series you can buy from retail stores. The nice thing about going through the dealer is you get the mounting brackets for it. If you’re just looking to fill in some of the missing low end and not going for bass shattering sound then the bazooka tube is fine. If you want a little more bass in a compact design also consider the Infinity basslink. It has a little more bass for around the same price. Sold both models and installed both in many cars. Either one would be a good buying decision. Like I said its all about how much bass you like. Just want a little bit of whats missing go with the bazooka tube. Want a little more low end, then the Infinity is the way to go.

Whoa. I apologize for offending anyone. Let me rephrase; I've heard them before and you don't get enough sound quality to warrant the price tag. You can go to a local stereo shop and have them install a small custom setup that will sound much better for less money.

I too have the Bazooka mobile audio sub in my '05 xB. It was dealer installed. I too am preased with the sound.

My only gripe is the rattle. The problem is I hear rattle when the stereo is off. I have narrowed the rattle down to the back cargo area and suspect it has something to do with the mounting of the subwoofer (on the brackets above the spare tire).

Does anyone else have this problem. How did you fix it?

hy if you want the bazooka tube they have them at circuitcity for 99 bucks but you could get a bazooka 10 inch sub and box and their 300 watt amp plus installation and 4 year warrenty sor about $250 which is cheapr than what you can get at the dealer ship and it would sound alot better and the when you have hade the set up for 3.5 years you could go back and say it doesnt sound as ood as the day u got it and the will replace every thing for free
but outside of that i lisenend to the 8 inch bazooka tube from the dealer ship and it sounded very muffeled
but hey its you money

I'm embarrassed to say I went to WallyWorld and got one for $89. I ran my own cables and it sounds fine. I got the removable type and wired it so I can pop it out when needed. To secure it, I put a thin piece of birch plywood beneath my carpet cover and screwed through it. Simple, works well and no holes were drilled in the car. I take it out when I need to haul gear.

It will fit, but they will probably drill holes through it to mount the Bazooka to the covers.

When I bought my xB I knew I wouldn't have a lot of opportunity to do upgrades for a while (damn credit debt) so I didn't mind that it came with the sub. I figured that it would just be one less thing I would have to worry about purchasing for a while.

So far I have been a little dissapointed, it just seemed to round out the sound, but it didnt really push at all. However, I am going to try adjusting the base as recommended on page one of this forum (thanks IAxB).

I didn't know there was a dial on the sub to do this, and I've been so busy this last two weeks that I had not looked into it yet. Once I do that I'll let you know my thoughts.

I own the Bazooka and have also experimented with various sized woofers in the xB. I like the Bazooka as compared to a pair of 10 or 12" subs. Why? Simply weight... The Bazooka hardly weighs anything.

I made sure to listen to it at the dealer with my own CD and regardless of how I adjusted it, it did not sound good. The whole SSP thing in general really just makes me mad. By far it's the worst stereo I ever had. The stock stereo on the Aerio was like... 80x better. It is the ONLY complaint I have about the box, but for the price I can't complain too loud. I just listen to talk radio and drive something else long distances.

I was thinking a good place to put a custom speaker box would be the middle of the back seat floor, essentially turning the box into a 4 seater. Maybe one day when I'm inspired.

So I adjusted the sub volume, and for me its perfect. I noticed if I turn it to high it sounds like crap, but I kept tweaking it and found a balance that works great for me.

It's not deep or loud enough to be obnoxious to other drivers (which it seems to be the goal of some drivers) but its deep and loud enough to give me a nice quality environment while cruising.

Bottom line, I'm sure there is better for less, but I'm glad I got it.

Thats my 2 cents.

i saw a thread on here a few weeks ago about something similar to these. it was a tube that had a bunch of baffles in it and if you added up the surface area of them it was equal to a 10in or 12in sub i think. i cant remember who makes them. anyone know what im talking about?
