View Full Version : Convex Mirror Install
KINGxOFxSKA 07-08-2008, 08:19 AM This is for those of you who would rather do a complete glass swap rather than sticking the new mirrors over the old ones. I know there is already one similar on here, but this one is a little more in-depth.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any damages to your vehicle due to the installation of this product. Mirrors must be installed at your own risk. Remember that this is a glass item and should be handled with care.
1. With your fingers, carefully push the stock mirror inwards and pull up until you can get your fingers under the bottom of the mirror. Lift up and out.

Your stock assembly should now look like this:

2. Set the oven temperature to 225°. Place the stock mirror frame in the oven on a cookie sheet for 3 – 5 minutes until the plastic becomes softer.
http://www.tweakedice.com/img/howtomirror5.jpg
3. Work the stock mirror glass out of the frame.
http://www.tweakedice.com/img/howtomirror6.jpg
4. Apply and remove the double stick tape to the back of the new mirror (add more to the corners if you’d like).
http://www.tweakedice.com/img/howtomirror7.jpg
5. Place supplied suction cup on the new mirror, line up, and place new mirror into the frame.
http://www.tweakedice.com/img/howtomirror8.jpg
6. Once the mirror is in place, turn the frame over and fill in the gaps with any general-purpose waterproof clear silicone.
http://www.tweakedice.com/img/howtomirror9.jpg
Once the silicone has dried, you can now re-install the frame back into the side view mirror housing.
7. To re-install, start by setting the mirror frame back in TOP first. You will see clips on the back of the frame and groves in the housing. Once the top is in place, apply enough pressure to the middle and bottom portion of the glass until you feel the groves on the back clip in. (Please be sure not to put too much pressure as you do not want to break the glass.)
http://www.tweakedice.com/img/howtomirror10.jpg
8. Clean you mirrors from any fingerprints or excess residue and enjoy. :)

For those of you who don't have the side view mirrors yet and would like to purchase them, you can do so from the following link:

There were 100 sets ordered and they're moving quickly.

ack154 07-09-2008, 05:18 PM Nice DIY... They look pretty good. I don't think I'd drop $80 on them (better things to spend $80 on atm) but they're nice.
zer0myst 07-09-2008, 06:40 PM tagged...hopefully i can do this soon
Need4Bass05 07-10-2008, 02:54 AM Hmm have to keep this in mind if I ever do this. Nice write up
SquallLHeart 07-10-2008, 07:35 PM hmm.. just did this.. the plastic was pretty soft as it was (perhaps due to the warm weather here)
but the mirrors came out with a little help of fingernails.. and they really just popped out without the need for an oven
hmm.. they look awesome!
KINGxOFxSKA 07-12-2008, 02:33 AM How do you like em Trung?
SquallLHeart 07-12-2008, 09:18 AM takes some getting used to for that driver side one being convex now....

Beantowntc 10-17-2008, 06:12 AM Anyone else have any feedback on these?
PsyonTC 10-18-2008, 03:26 AM I have these along with the Broadway 270mm blue convex rearview mirror.
After I got by the initial adjustment period (being very careful because objects truly are closer than they appear), I would never go back to stock. Not only have the blind spots inherent in this car been eliminated, but also the blue tint reduces eyestrain when driving at night.
They also look plain gorgeous! Highly recommended.
Beantowntc 10-19-2008, 02:22 AM cool. When did you order yours? im trying to get an idea if tweakedice.com still has these mirrors or not? it says only 100 ordered and i dont wanna purchase until i confirm their still in stock...i know some websites arent updated too often...i pm'd tweaked ice but havent gotten a response yet
PsyonTC 10-19-2008, 05:52 PM I got the side mirrors a couple of months ago when TweakedIce was having a group buy.

ecko04 01-25-2009, 05:24 PM I ordered a set last night.
I will post pics once they are installed hopefully by the weekend.
jamaican 01-27-2009, 05:57 AM These are nice mirrors. I have a set on my car and they really stand out when looking at them from behind the car. You have to get used to your drivers side though. you'll see what i mean. Your eyes have to adjust from your OEM one to this one.
jamaican 01-27-2009, 06:04 AM Hey Beantowntc you say you might switch them out between seasons. I have an extra set of mirrors if you're interested. You can have a set for winter and one for.... (when its not snowing) lol. PM me if you're interested.
Beantowntc 01-28-2009, 05:21 AM hmm well i have the stock mirrors....im just gonna swap the glass....probably just need another glass housing and im set
jamaican 01-29-2009, 01:10 AM hey beantowntc, just to throw it out there i also have a set of just the mirror(glass) housings. I seem to have all these random spare parts hanging around. LOL! :eyebrow:
Beantowntc 01-29-2009, 01:24 AM LOL pm sent
jamaican 01-29-2009, 02:18 AM pm sent
ecko04 02-02-2009, 10:35 PM I just received mine today
beandip007 02-02-2009, 10:39 PM These mirrors FTMFW!
ecko04 02-02-2009, 11:13 PM Be smart when removing the stock mirror plate. My passenger mirror plate came off with ease, the drivers' side was a PITA, I ended up pulling the entire mirror plate assembly off and spent the better part of 20 minutes lining it back up and applying pressure to get it back on the piece that turns/tilts the mirror and putting the "oh sh*t" clip back on, you know the clips, the ones where you pop it off and it goes flying while you say "oh sh*t", that clip.
If it does not come off with 2 to 3lbs of force and you find yourself exerting 7 to 8lb of force, you're probably on your way to putting the mirror plate assembly back on.
My tint is 35% for comparison

dqlostsoulz 02-03-2009, 04:28 AM I like them, they look good. Is there any deals going on for these right now?? How much for a set?
808tC 02-03-2009, 04:35 AM i swear I saw some scionlifers selling theirs for $60. anyways, i would love to do this, but 1. its easy to steal and 2. I already set my mirrors so that I have a 180 degree view behind my head and everything else is in my peripheral and sight.
phiquach 02-03-2009, 06:26 AM i just installed these. pretty easy. i took off the double sided tape they had on though. when i installed with it, it made the mirrors pop out too much and didn't fit so i went out and bought 3M double sided tape(outdoor)
went on much easier. and a better fit.

dont let easy to steal stop you from buying them...most of the tx exterior mods are easy to steal, vrd fogs, vrd grilles, shorty antenna and in some cases the spoiler has been ripped off.....
i dont think these jump out and say steal me....i dont think most non tc owners will notice them as much anyways
ecko04 02-03-2009, 02:44 PM Where do you guys live/go for people to steal your parts?
I mean if someone wants to steal convex mirrors rip them off a BMW.
I mean in all seriousness that is sad and you shouldn't let that be a deterrent.
After all, when was the last time you knew someone that went around to purposely steal someones mirrors, that's one sad soul.
Beantowntc 02-09-2009, 10:26 PM got mine on this past weekend...really easy install great product

jasongawlik0313 02-22-2009, 10:44 PM yeah i got these this past summer the convex is great but i feel they could be bluer..........sometimes they dont even look blue at all but if its a dim rainy day they do seems a little steep for what you get costwise but if you need a better viewing angle get em also on a side note they dont fit as tightly as the stocks do theyre smaller i had to use silicone cause i thought they might come out one day
upStyles 03-02-2009, 03:05 PM how the f*** do you get the mirror out..ive been messin with it for over an hour and it wont budge..if i push harder i think im gona break it...any help?
jasongawlik0313 03-02-2009, 11:49 PM theres one side of the mirror where itll pop out if you bend just the plastic and you can get one side of the glass and pry as close to the adhesive as possible its even easier to use an exacto knife and trim at ias you stratch the adhesive too theres acually thumb holes in the back to push against the backing of the mirror

huslindan 05-05-2009, 03:40 AM does tweaked ice have anymore?
howiedds 05-05-2009, 04:36 AM i just bought it today..shipped today too!
huslindan 05-05-2009, 04:44 AM how do you no ?
huslindan 05-05-2009, 05:04 AM just ordered it now lol had to have it
howiedds 05-09-2009, 01:50 AM Forget the oven method...sooo dangerous...use a hair dryer for 2 minutes and the mirrors pop right off.... my driver side didnt even have tape on the back... GL
huslindan 05-09-2009, 02:10 AM did you break any of the clips when removing the mirror off the car ?
howiedds 05-09-2009, 02:24 AM nope...but i think its easier/safer to remove the whole housing from the car to remove it.
huslindan 05-09-2009, 02:34 AM yeah like the black part that holds the mirror in you gotta take that out to replace it. how eles would you do it ?
howiedds 05-09-2009, 02:55 AM no no..i meant the WHOLE housing off the car (remove the 3 bolts and actually take it off)
Cracker_tC 06-24-2009, 04:00 AM I bought a set of these like 2 months ago and I had the time to install it this past weekend, it took me like 10 minutes at most and it looks pretty nice.
As for the angle, I used to have the stock mirrors along with the small (auto parts) blind spot mirrors, and in comparison, you can see way more of an angle with the small add-ons, specially on the driver's side, but to be honest, its just getting used to it, the angle these convex mirrors offer are more than enough, I wish they were a little bit more bluer' (darker), headlights at night still bother me a little.
GREAT PRODUCT, thanks!
KINGxOFxSKA 08-03-2009, 07:56 AM BUMP BUMP.

Aurora 07-13-2010, 01:44 AM Are there any of these left?
SoulXquisite 10-31-2010, 10:07 PM - i think their are a few places online that sell only the passenger side, can't seem to find the drivers side (need one), just installed the passenger one though because someone shot it with a bb gun, now i got 2 tone side mirrors hahaha
Aurora 11-01-2010, 04:40 AM Can you please post the links to the one you got for the passenger side? These things are amazing.
dropzone 11-01-2010, 04:47 AM All I know of is the OEM convex passenger mirror. If that's what he's talking about then yea those can be found online. To get the blue tinted convex(APR/Carbign Craft) it'll be by luck from someone on a forum.

Can you get convex mirrors for the tC and then just apply a blue tint to them? or is this something that has to come that way?
dropzone 11-01-2010, 05:02 AM I don't know of anywhere that sells a convex driver's side mirror(I searched long ago), just the factory flat driver's and factory convex passenger side. You could apply a blue tint to them, could probably find how to's searching on other sites, they're out there.
Doing a search and looked here, doesn't seem to good of an idea...
