How good are these engines?
Well, tonite i was driving around, and i let my friend drive my car, he's a good guy, and he usually lets me use his stuff and i told him not to really go over 4k yet, and dont do any burnouts, well the road was slippery, so he kinda loss some traction, maybe launched from 2k and dropped the clutch, then he went to about 5200 in first, man i was so ____ed, but i was just wondering, how good are these engines, i know toyota engines are great, our 90 previa starts up in like 1 try, and our old camry had 140k miles on it and ran great, but my parents never abused their cars, i think im going to be driving it pretty hard after i hit 1000 miles any input?

The toyota used a 2.0L (or 2.2 I forget) in the 1990 camry. I think they were still using the 3S-FE. But anyway it's a strong, proven, engine so no need to worry. But if I can offer you a bit of advice, NEVER let your friends drive your car.

It will be fine...
I see alot of posts about worried people and over reving the engines...But they dont seem to think about how Toyota employees treated it before it left the lot. I had the TRD exhaust placed on...So do you think they took it easy after placing it on and cranking it up the engine in the garage?

Oh my lordy lordy...
He didn't even get to redline! Calm the heck down!
If it was so critical to never cross 5000rpm, or to even do ANY spirited driving at all, you can bet Toyota would include warnings all over the car and have the dealership staff counsel you when you picked it up. You think they would want to keep something like that a secret and then end up shelling out cash for warranty issues?
Now I ask you this.... How many of us test drove our cars? Did you drive completely like a blind old lady? I understand that many of us were on waiting lists to receive our cars, so we were typically the only potential buyers that ever drove our cars (I got mine with 1 mile)... But just think about all the tCs that DO get test driven by potential customers. Those cars are not being allowed to blow up for the sake of selling them. ;) My friend bought the first tC in my town, and it had over 500 miles on it, and had been test driven by a dozen people, including the sales staff, one of whom told us a dramatic story that involved him racing a Celica GTS (another new car on the lot). His car is just fine, btw. I'm sure the Celica is too. ;)

heh when i bought my car yesterday, it was getting the new car detail. they said it would take 40 minutes... well my friend asked if we could test drive a car. the dealer said sure which one....... the xB with the rims... we put 36 miles on it... and every mile we dogged that car lol... so you know people do dog the cars when they test drive em..
