Default Runs Different With Air On

Hey guys,

I searched and couldn't find anything so I'm going to ask. When my air conditioner is on in my car it feels like the car runs rough. Sometimes even hesitant shifting gears. Almost to the point where I won't pass people with it on because I don't know how it's going to act. It only does it when the Ac is on. No problems whatsoever with it off. 2005 TC/Manual/Stock/50,000 miles. Thanks for your help.

Actually this is the first full summer I've had the car. So it's the first time I've really used the AC enough to realize, but it's definitely noticeable.

mine is an 08 model and only 10K miles, its normal. i even stalled in a parking lot because of it; when the a/c is on it cycles on and off as it needs to and when it kicks on and ur car happens to be at idle, it will suprise the engine because of the power it robs it, it feels rough because its like letting off ur clutch for take off, its putting a load on your engine. to correct this load change your IACV(idle air control valve) corrects it by gassing your engine, not with the gas pedal but with giving more air into the manifold. and while shifting our flywheels are super heavy, our RPMS drop fast when the a/c isnt on and when its on its worst thats why i only use my ac when im driving steadily or if its too hot i make sure i gas the car enough to not stall

my old car ahsd the a/c on all the time and and idled rough the whole time when it was on

hope i explained it good enough

Yes you did as long as by idling you mean idling at an rpm while driving and not as to idlling in driveway. I guess its nice to know its normal but its annoying.

What did you expect? It's a 4-banger.

Our A/C's are ridiculously inefficient and suck a huge amount of power. On a whim last month, I decided to go an entire tank without using the A/C and an entire tank with the A/C. I ran out of fuel 1/4 of a tank faster with the A/C than without.
