on the xB? Higher, lower or none

After installed in November, My car gains a little ~0.5-1MPG. Recently, it drops by 1-2MPG, may be because of the cold weather.

 

It will generally lower you MPG unless you have a engine that is generally considered de tuned by the factory and by adding a CAI you are simply uncorking more HP. But even there odds are that you will still see a drop in MPG.

 

I saw a pretty decent gain when I'm doing all highway driving. Driving around town is lower, but the highway seems to be higher.

I usually roll down the windows, since I heard a rumor about gas and a/c.

 

They had that on myth busters. At first it seemed busted using some mathematical model, but then they ran the cars with the same gals of gas and the AC stopped first. Problem is they used 2 different people to drive to identical but different cars. Not really all that scientific on that show. They think they are, but if you don't have controls and don't use exactly the same conditions, or just don't have enough data your experiment doesn't mean squat.

Same effect here on my celica. I would guess it would be this way just because when your on the highway driving 70mph, it should (in theory) take less effort from you engine to maintain that speed thanks to the additional power. Of course I could be completely wrong and that wouldn't suprise me too much

 

theoretically is should get you better gas mileage. but usually when someone adds a CAI they tend to drive more aggressively, to hear the growl, which in-turn will make your gas mileage lower.

That's so true I drive like I want to race after the intake was on. Always floored my xA like its an emergency. Love the growl. Drop like 5 mpg for 3 tanks, but I kinda take it easy now cuz of the gas prices. Still, the itch is still there. Go Injen

 

I would say, BINGO to that.

My nBeetle is that way. If I drive it quietly, better mileage. But if I drive it to hear the growl, then yes, the mileage goes down.

I plan on getting one for the xB in about three weeks. Curious as to how growls.

 

It is only adding a few HP.. so it should not really affect the MPG at all.

But the "Growl" factor does usually mean you give it more gas more often...
