Ok. I just had new tires installed the other day. I was on Nexen 3000 at a 225/40 18 ZR speed rated.
I went to get another set and these are bieng discod so I went with the Nexen N5000. same size but it looks though that the speed rating is H.
The speed rating I know doesnt ONLY have to do with how fast you can theoretically go but more based in part on how the vehicle behaves and handles.
My question is this the rating for ZR is 149+
For H is 130
Would you go back to ZR or would you feel ok with the H.
Any information to assit that you may have would be great.
Thanks!

The speed rating has to do with how fast a tire can go for a certain length of time safely. An H tire could do 160 if need be, just not for a long time.
The contruction and quality of a tire matter more than anything and if it's used what kind of possible impacts it has been through.
Are the ZR rated tires the ones that originally came with the car or was that what someone had added? (check original stock Scion tires and then get the specs from that for speed rating)

I do know tires.. In the case of the tC it's not about the highest speed rating. It's about the construction of the tire inside.
A z-rated (ZR) tire will be much stronger and able to withstand the pressures/temperatures that higher speeds create. That's why it can go 149+ mph.
An h-rated (HR) tire will have less strength to put up with the constant speeds above 130mph.
The reason you'd want a Z-rated tire is simple for the fact that the ride is more sporty, and handles much better. You can use an H-rated tire but they tend to ride softer and have more "mush" to them. Steering response is also slow compared to a stiffer Z-rated tire. The suspension on the tC was set up for a Z-rated tire, that's why an H-rated tire just doesn't feel right.
I would stay with a Z-rated tire, H is just too soft.

First Off Why did u spend your money on Sh!tty NEXEN's???
Those are some Awful Non-Gripping Tires!...LoL..I have the Sh!tty N3000 Blahh
Yea when are you planning to got more than 127 MPH anyways????

dude. next time.. stick with the Z rated tires. i always have ppl coming in and asking for the cheapest tire.. usually H or T or S rated tires.... it's not about top speed.. like said b4 it has to do w/ how the car handles, accelerates, and most importantly brakes. think about it... a H rated tire doesnt grip as well as a Z rated tire... if you need to to brake in a hurry. you might have actually doubled your stopping distance with that H rated tire.

2nd please reread my post...if you did you would see it has nothing to do with how FAST I would go.
Please pay attention.

Well then try taking a corner hard w/ them sh!tty NEXEN's.....u will NOT feel confident about the car sticking well since NEXEN's donr stick well in the first place!
I have Falken 452's now there is a HUGE differeance in gripping of the tires....
1st....my nexen 3000's were great and I never had a problem with them.

yup i think Andrew1782 just wanted to know what the technology differences between H and Z-rated tires are.
But yes, sometimes a z-rated tire could be junk, but most of the time to get that rating there is more construction inside the tire to deal with higher speeds.
Sounds like the owner is very cool that's good, especially with tires. I can't stand some tire shops. Where you buy it and that's it, live with it. Glad you found a decent shop
