View Full Version : Rust!!!
x_TC-Dae 07-21-2008, 03:11 AM Since summer has come around I've been taking a closer look at my car, and I've noticed some rust spots from the paint chippings!! Do you think the warranty should cover this or no? and why!!
Little info about car.
06 scion Tc with less than 32k miles
BlizZard 07-21-2008, 03:25 AM rust?
where exactly is it "rusting"?
CarbonXe 07-21-2008, 03:28 AM I noticed a few rust spots on the inside of the engine bay of my 05. I just touched it up with some paint and solved the problem.
draxcaliber 07-21-2008, 03:29 AM warranty covers manufacturer defect. paint chips from being pelted with rocks at high way speeds are not a manufacturing defect. neither is the subsequent rust.
stop tailgating people and you won't get so many paint chips and no rust.
and some info about my car:
2005 scion tc with just over 60k miles, and about 75% of them on the interstate at speeds over 60 mph. a few light chips, but no rust.

you dont have to tailgate drivers to get chips on this car. i have numerous of chips on my hood and front bumper that ive been thinking about getting repainted but dont know if its worth it and yet i dont tailgate anyone?

X2, I've been hit by rocks falling off those douchebag rock trucks when I wasn't even the same lane as them.
InfiniteVisi0n 07-21-2008, 03:42 AM Haha I really dont think it would matter if the car had an awesome paint job done by an awesome workman. Either way if a rock hits your ride, your ride is bound to get a chip or so. Its not like the paint job is going to provide an super shield that is immune to rocks. Rust? Thats a different story..yes rust can be a result of chips but iono like ^^ he said above me, stop tailgating but then thats not always true. Sometimes its just unavoidable.
NYNCTC 07-21-2008, 03:43 AM agreed, i was going to make a thread about this b.c i just got hit by a rock and it chipped my front. is there any way to fix it, besides repainting?
InfiniteVisi0n 07-21-2008, 03:52 AM yea you need to remove the clear coat fill it in with the same paint color, smooth it out, then re coat it. Iono something like that
tcCALI 07-21-2008, 05:52 AM stop tailgating people and you won't get so many paint chips and no rust.
lol
x_TC-Dae 07-21-2008, 09:33 PM I dont tail gate, and the rust spots are happening on the hood, front bumper, and side fenders.
These paint chips are from just regular driving,I put atleast a semi length between me and car infront of me.
So you dont think a good primar coat could have prevented the car from rusting? I even had that option job where they spray the car with rust prevention.
cavalierkid888 07-21-2008, 09:46 PM Well I don't see how your front bumper is rusting...it's abs plastic.
But your hood and fenders, yeah, when you get a rock chip on them that is down to bare metal you need to fill in that spot with a little touch up pen so it will not rust over time. It's kinda common sense.
InfiniteVisi0n 07-21-2008, 10:53 PM ^^x2 but i dont think the fenders are made of metal. However tC-Dae, get a carbon fiber hood..touch up on the chips and call it a day
