Not to alarm anyone, but I just had my car in today for an oil change at Leesburg Toyota in Leesburg, Virginia. I was talking with the service manager, Brian, who's a really nice guy, and who also owns a tC himself.

We began talking about turbos, he was telling me how he was interested in the Greddy setup as well, and then I asked him if he knew when the TRD supercharger was coming out. I thought it was supposed to be sometime in January. He kinda looked at me funny and was like "I think that project's dead in the water." Me: "What??" Him: "Yeah, I was told that they've pretty much given up on coming out with the supercharger for the tC..." Me: "Who told you that?" Him: "Our TRD parts counter manager told me he'd been informed that the product is not going to be sold, at all." Me: "WTF? But they're even pre-selling these things on websites..." Him: "That's strange. Well, I wouldn't get my hopes up, because it's most likely not going to happen."

That's the weakest thing I've heard all month. I wonder if this is really true, or if he was misinformed? The only reason I had some faith in what he was saying was because he told me he'd been told by the TRD parts manager for the dealership. That would be really ___ if Scion had been talking about this project for months and then given up on it all of a sudden. It's gonna ____ a lot of people off it it's really true.

hmm...I dont know about that. Too much hype and too many people waiting for that. I think it will be out until a press release tells me otherwise. Although it would make my decision on super vs. turbo easy.

I wouldn't worry to much about the TRD Chager, I know the company that is making it, and they have full intent on it being released.

I personally think TRD misinforms people to start rumors and create a buzz...

I highly doubt a international company would start a false rumor that one of there products werent coming out to get more people to buy it... that doesnt make to much since.

Either that or everyone is a liar. Whichever cynical belief you want to hold on to. Your pick.

well i think its probably true since the project is taking longer than expected. and it would really suck for people that bought the tc thinking of upgrading the mediocre "camry engine". but, i seen a post in the forum pictures of the supersharger itself. maybe you should tell him about it or even show it to him

Been to Atlanta Toyota many, many times, and if there's one thing you can count on them to do, it's make stuff up...

I know TRD reps, and it deffinitly comming out before the spring of 2005. Theres just so much that has to be done, to make sure the supercharger will not affect the longeivty of the engine, and that it meets strict emission standards. That alone has pushed the project back 4 months.

Its coming out I talked to my dealership, who then called a TRD dealership. Only downsides I've seen to it so far:

If you already own your car you can't add the payment of the supercharger to your car payments. (I know its kind of obvious but that was basically the only way I was going to be able to afford it)

You won't see your car for a while...hehe...

Edit - I have heard however, that the 2005 Corolla is not getting a supercharger

yeah, coming outta pocket with $3000 is kinda tough for most people. but, at least it's gonna be covered under the warranty.

THis may be true or not although to me it sounds like a legitimate explanation. I was talking to my dealer while looking for a tC and I asked when the supercharger would be coming out. He said the reason it hadn't come out yet had nothing to do with development. The problem was TRD only wanted to give the supercharger a year warrenty and Scion/Toyota wanted to extend it to the warrenty of the car as long as it was installed in a dealership.

TRD USA has issues. Why wont Toyota just badge it SCION or Toyota instead of the $$$ premium for the TRD letters

If what you also say above is true, I take it that's why the TRD Japan Turbo for the ist and bB is not available for the USDM.

I don't know dude. I was just informing everyone of what I was told at my dealership. I wasn't saying it was true, just stating what I'd heard. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

The corolla has had a supercharger for a long time. It shares the same motor and SC with the celica GT.

You'll see the blower at North American International Auto Show. TRD has had the blowers but production has not been anywhere close to the expected demand-so they pushed back the release.

The hang-up on the S/C is CARB certification. Unlike aftermarket parts, a manufacturer needs to approach emissions testing from a different perspective. Should be release in the first quarter of 2005.

Also, if you have it installed in your ride by the dealer it will be covered by whatever remains of your 5/60 powertrain warranty.

That's all Scion has told me.

One of the online parts retailers that posts on the tC forum mentioned in my sig said that the date might be pushed back to April/May, but the project was still on.

From TRD: The SuperCharger is still being worked on and the new ETA is mid April. That's not a guarantee, just an estimate. The project has not been scrapped.
