View Full Version : Favorite Strut Tower Bar
kshymkiw 12-11-2004, 05:05 AM What is your Favorite strut tower bar and WHY?
I have driven the xB with the following:
None
Hotchkis
DC
APR
I think the Apr has offered the best support. I enjoy it because of it's one piece design. It is rigid and a flat bar, as opposed to tubular and being bent. We all know that bending metal weakens it, and i don't see why companies who are making "performance" products are weakining the materials they use by bending them.
*edit* Also the price is extremely reasonable
Anyways what is your favorite strut tower bar for the xB, xA, or tC?
tinybigrig 12-11-2004, 10:21 AM i have the apr bar, nice piece, its acyually 5 pieces so you know....but any bar should work fine, i mean on these cars a strut bar isnt gonna do that much because of how close the strut towers are to the firewall...if your looking to tighten everything up get some underbracing. apr has a super nice setup that retails for like 190 i think and includes a matching piece to tie the rear, replacing the little stamped stock piece

kshymkiw 12-11-2004, 04:24 PM That is correct., but i have felt a substantial (sp?) tigtning in the front of my car, more so than i felt with any of the other bars.
dinkjs 12-13-2004, 05:13 AM Strut bars for the front are such a waste of time.....if you want to "tighten" you go with the lower frame brace for the front....if you want a strut tower bar then you fab one up for the xb and use it for the rear
hotbox05 12-13-2004, 08:06 AM i've got a rear bar and it's a nice lil addage, now all i need are b-pillar bar/harness bar and a c-pillar bar. oh yeah and underbraces too. i didnt know there was a rear underbrace. oh ____ i almost forgot the progress rear bar. cant forget that .
chopaholix 12-13-2004, 08:12 PM Does CUSCO make bars for the TC?
Cameron 12-13-2004, 08:27 PM I have the Hotchkis.
I think the Hotchkis and DC are pretty. They do something?
tinybigrig 12-14-2004, 05:52 AM anythign on the front struts, isnt going to matter as far as brand. if you want some real rear underbracing get ahold of toyxbox he got a nice piecs form cabe toyota, and i have to say im gonna follow his lead

I am all about the JIC strut bar right now. :D
squirrel 12-17-2004, 07:16 AM Technically, prolly NO strut tower brace is needed. Why? The front strut towers are part of the firewall. I seriously doubt the xB will produce and exert enuff force, during cornering, to cause flexing of the towers.
If anything, some frame bracing, or camber plates, would produce better results.
I'm not an expert though.
I tow with my strut bar, that the real purpose right?
tinybigrig 12-18-2004, 01:19 AM pretty much.......ehehe my friend drove my box with the bar on and said he felt the difference, but i think hes full of cit......but i know ill feel a difference witht the underbracing sway bars and flta-2's hehehe....i cant wait till jan

The JiC drift driver was dual a dual drift with another car, the JiC driver lost it was t-boned by the second car. When they both got back to the pits, Jon started kicking dents in the other car. Wrong answer.
You didn't know about this?
Sorry, poor sportsmanship. I'm not buying anything made by JiC.

Thats why people buy scions, to be different, so its ok if you don't like my bar. :D You can always use another bar to your liking, just like in the scion comercials. 8)
anyone interested in a group buy for these 3 items. where all the lava fans!!!!! i'm a distributor for GTSpec so i can do good on pricing if their is interest. Your absolutely correct regarding the front strut bars. I'm working on having these bars tied into the front corners of the inner fenders and or radiator supports at a later date. thoughts on these?

Pm sent, please becareful when trying to sell, without becoming a site sponcer.
squirrel 12-22-2004, 06:23 PM Funny, he just asked if their was interest, and didn't post any prices.
thats why i didn't post prices. I haven't made one dime from selling them...i don't even know what the interest is yet so i posted it to see. Should their be a large interest? i'd be more then happy to support this site by becoming a sponsor. To this day i haven't sold one thing on this site.
I do see your point though stylis and agree that if you make money off this site..put money back.
just an added point on the braces...they are alluminum

No problem, I just don't want any of the other moderators jumping down your throat. Good stuff you got their though, I am sure there is enough customers here to buy them. :D Thanks for understanding. 8)

squirrel 12-23-2004, 12:27 AM Just another example of NOT FULLY READING the post. Hmm. No prices, yet gets hemmed up for selling something, when it was just about to see if there is any interest.
rallyxb 12-23-2004, 12:47 AM ... just an added point on the braces...they are alluminum
ALL of the braces are alluminum?
I always though sub-frame braces were steel.
What type / grade / hardness of alluminum are you using?
:?:
The strut bars come with double internal hallow wall struture for stronger support. The actual bar is make of alumimum with high polish. Constructed by air craft 6061 grade aluminum for rigidity and strength.
brace= aircraft grade 6061/6063 vacuumed out aluminum with hallow double wall design

No, I read everything, but a warning never meant any harm. Besides this is a topic for your favorite strut bar and I posted mine. Whats yours squirrel? 8)

lootyman 12-23-2004, 06:21 PM you know what i can't figure out?
why are people putting 'performance' parts on a box with 100 hp anyway?
is it for when you go ripping through a turn at 15 miles/hour trying like hell to beat that '97 escort to the taco bell, your box doesn't fall over?
who are you kidding? just do cool stuff like stereo, interior mods, fish tanks and monitors. the boxes are cool, but performance mods are a lost cause...let's be real.
save the performance mods for us tC owners 8)
fyi. to think the box can't handle an autox course or even a road course is silly. Is it fast? not at all. Will it hold exit speeds...yes. If you get it to handle even better will those exit speeds increase? yes. have you taken a look at the scion xB's curb weight to the TC's? The box is basically a tall crx with more torque.
maybe you should take some high speed driving courses and learn some?
try 2 hpde (high performance driver education courses) at http://www.nasaproracing.com/ and call me in the morning because your dilusional this holiday season.
oh..and the TC is still a dog when it comes to performance. This was the last honda i sold. No forced induction...allmotor
save as

tinybigrig 12-26-2004, 01:35 AM maybe some of us dont like stereos and fishtanks and that kinda crap....remember when people said a fwd car would never be practical, or that a honda civic would never have 200 whp.....oh wait maybe you dont remember your probably some 16 year old punl ___ kid who thinks what he has is the best and everything elese sucks.....i mean it takes one to know one, i may be a 23 year old punk ___ kid, but obviously i learned from the ___ beatings i got as a kid, so anyways after my tangent, these cars have major potential for auto x, wait till im done, itll suprise some people, check back in 30 days

timinaz 12-26-2004, 01:53 AM I would like to get the APR Flex Bar with the bB emblem...But it will come down to how much cash I can spend.
squirrel 12-26-2004, 01:57 AM Sure the xB isn't going to stomp any EVO VIIIs or STis, or even a Corvette, BUT never underestimate some of the drivers on this Forum.
With the right amount of skills, the xB, when set up properly, can outhandle some of the cars on the street, and even though it won't win many drags, I've been known to pass others on corners and on/offramps that have decreasing radiuses and off camber turns.
hotbox05 12-26-2004, 04:14 AM it's not even that brad. just wait till people swap motors with ones that have more power than yer pos rattle stricken tc. then with our lightwieght and equal or more power. have fun ralph wiggum. have fun just don't start a flame war. ok? cuz we dont need to start ____. oh wait crap i just did. my bad. lets not rag on each other tho seriously. if tc's handle so well and have soo much hp oh wait an auto with like 127-135 and a manual only slightly better? hmm oh and wait it weighs almost 3000k? hmmm.try and auto x that. why don't tc's auto x? they COULD and with your reasoning the SHOULD kill any box or xa. just chill man. let people do what they do. i mean at least we arent drivin pimped out cavaliers with 20 screens and suede interior with a pos turbo kit. now that's the way to kid yourself and waste ALOT of money.
lootyman 12-26-2004, 05:27 PM point taken everyone.
i don't want to be a crap stirrer on this forum. i've gotten alot of great info here and respect you guys.
lip, you just sold that honda in the video. that's pretty sweet acceleration. is it good to run the hondas up to 10k rpm? what am i talking about...you can do anything to a car befoire you sell it!
rock on guys and peace.
hotbox05 12-26-2004, 07:24 PM hey man i apologize if i ____ed anyone off. but yeah that honduh rocked hard. yeah 10k equals no good but alot of built honduhs can go 9k or 9.5 easily. and yeah anything can b done right b4 a sale. lol
those rpms were totally safe on that car.
it could spin more rpms but there isn't any use since if you look and listen carefully to the vid..you can see it running out of breath. Its peak power is in the 7500-8500rpms. the only reason i shifted so high was to hit the power band going into the next gear.
that car allmotor was 207hp with 145torque to the wheels. no FI...straight NA
hotbox05 12-27-2004, 07:24 PM wanna build a toyo motor for me?
:)
i'm still comtemplating which way i want to go. but i hear ya
hotbox05 12-27-2004, 08:37 PM i wanna go pe on the inz for now and then 2zz wit 5spd later on
CBSIMONSEZ 12-27-2004, 09:04 PM I like my "HotChicks" ( for those that dont know, there was a seller on Ebay who was pushing a RS1 with a "Hot Chicks" strut bar ) strut bar cause it was free. Weither it works or not, i dunno.
hotbox05 12-27-2004, 09:20 PM i like my scion fx bar it's cheap , light and it works just as well as any other.
