My center rear seatbelt keeps falling out of the roof holder. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix? The plastic must have stretched. If it had some type of latch then this problem wouldn't happen. Thanks!

I had that problem, I then thought about it and realized that I never have three rear passengers so I pulled it all the way out and cut it, problem solved!

You cut it?? lol!
There is a thread here by zoltiz somewhere where he described how he removed the part in the ceiling and stuck it behind the pillar it comes out of.
I did the same thing that zoltiz did. I took a small screw driver and pried open the part on the ceiling that held the belt and used a 14mm socket to losen and finally remove the bolt. Then I pulled, be careful!, the pillar away from the body and tucked it inside. Also you have to pull the weather stripping away from the hatch opening to get a good grip on the pillar.
If you want pics I can quickly take some of what I'm talking about :)

You guys are all nuts, "CUT IT" your out of your mind. thats a 600.00 cut bro, nice....er...not...
I would just put a small dab of gorilla glue on it for now, that would keep it up and you could pop it out no prob if you needed it.

I looped the buckle back onto the belt and secured it with a small bungee cord. Any time I need the middle belt I just slide the bungee cord off to the side.

I wouldn't cut that belt if I were you guys. If you go to sell the car down the road that will be a big deduction on the trade in value of the car since cutting the belt just reduced the car from a 5 seater to a 4 seater.

I've been having the same problem! It stayed in the holster for 3000 miles and now it won't stay in for more than a day. I think I might use some rubber cement or jimmy up a latch. We'll see.

I agree with you on that, I have been thinking of removing it, not cutting, but because I am going to remove the back seats anyways so I dont need it and plus my rear is so low and no gap with my 19"s that when I have people in the back even my system it rubs on bumps! lol But if I wasnt going to ever resell it down the road when I get bored of it I would just cut it too! lol

I threaded a 1/4-20 tap into the plastic holder and screwed a 1/4-20 black plastic bolt into the hole. Locate the hole so the bolt enters the buckel of the strap. You can remove the screw with only finger torque and the strap never falls out. In addition, it looks like a factory install.

Double sided tape would remain sticky =P You're likely better off with Velcro. That way, you can reattach/remove it at anytime w/o needing more.

if so many people are having the same issue with their new car, couldn't you just file a complaint to scion corporation and see if a recall can be made for that part? it sucks to be the one to

To be totally honest, do you think that Scion will recall all of the xDs for a little issue like "our seatbelt roof holder isnt working right, can you fix it?" lol... How silly does that sound? Maybe its just me, but its nothing that is unsafe and it cant harm anybody, most people probibly didnt even know that it disconnected untill they read it on this forum topic anyways! lol, It took me one and a half months to figure it out myself, but I dont think that they will recall this part, to much headache for such a little unsignificant piece.

whatever super pan! :P jk mario....no but seriously,
i guess i should have read a little more into this. i figured
if it did something like that, maybe there is a chance of
that seatbelt not grabbing when you're making a hard stop.
i forget what it's called, but you know how your seatbelts
lock up when your turning or stopping sometimes.
to me it would seem like it's a safety issue. toyota did a
recall recently on corolla's because of an automatic window
motor, why not for a seatbelt?

LOL.. Whatever... I also tryed to lock it them stick it into the plastic holder, but I still think that the velcrow idea is the best, NO cutting or redirecting, but velcrow or maybe a srew or tab to hold the seatbelt in when not in use, but to recall a seatbelt would be hard because it works fine in its regular function, its supposed to be connected to the seat, but we all dont like seeing that seatbelt! But IDK what Im talking about, so lets see what Scioon/ Toyota has to say about the matter... just give corporatea call, you know what I have Jack Hollis' number and email, lets go direct to the source, I will get back to you when or if he hits me back!!!

The seatbelt bugs me when I'm looking at my rear view mirror. I'm doing some sound deadening to my car, so it's totally apart now. I'm just not going to put the seatbelt back on when I put everything back together. I figure I can put it back in whenever I sell the car. However, I do think you have to remove the right rear seat to get the panel to pop off so you can remove the entire seatbelt.

Thanks everyone for all the information! I think I will thread a hole in the roof holder and install a plastic bolt. This seems like the most effective solution since I use the seatbelt periodically.

I agree, that's the most sensible solution to me - a good mechanically-inclined fix for all us guys who spend a lot of time in a hardware store buying stuff to fix things right, haha!
I haven't had any issues with my belt falling out yet, I have just under 5000 miles on my 'D, but if it does start to come loose, I'll remember this fix.
