Does anyone out there have experience rebuilding their tC motor?

Long story short, I fried a bearing and had to rebuild my motor. The only shop manual I could find is for the Camry 2az-fe, which I followed to the letter to put everything back together. I tried starting my tC but all it does is spin... every once in a while, I'll get a "pop", but nothing else.

I hooked up the wires to the spark plugs to check the timing and it seems to be off. Seeing as I followed the instructions I don't see what could be wrong.

Any suggestions?

perhaps your timed it 180 out ? also, you usually have to disable the computer (either jumping a wire or removing a fuse) so that the advance curve is disabled to set the timing statically. I don't know but that my 2 cents. Good luck bro

I lined everything up as per the timing marks on the gears as well as the marks on the timing chain.

oh, and as for the computer..... I pulled my motor out and rebuilt it. The battery was unplugged for over a month.... I think that would reset the ECU! :wink:

It sounds like you mite have your crank trigger wheel backwards. There is a letter F on one side of the gold wheel that should be facing out. Stop and check every thing again. Take timing cover off and start over again.

Check what Scioncrew just posted first then check your sensors Cam, Crank, etc. Make sure all of them have good connections and were placed back in the correct positions.

I made darn sure that the sensors were in correct, but I don't recall checking the crank trigger wheel... it didn't even occur to me that that would make a difference.

so I checked the crank trigger... it's in correctly

the timing marks were a bit off, but readjusted now. I checked the injectors with an ohm meter, they're within specs. Took an air nozzle to the injector ports.

still won't fire...

Im sorry that wasn't it . have you pulled the codes yet.
maybe a bad sensor or something not pluged in..
