Default Need Help Bad PLS!!!! all who can help pls do. 05' xB

Ok, this is my dilema. in dec. i was at 54,000m i took my car in and it needed a cam gear and vvti controller (warranty issue). apparently its been happening some of yours out there as well. get it checked.

now for the fun part. im now at 70m and ever since about 65m my car has been misfiring bad. i changed the plugs 4x. not the plugs. i changed the coils, not the coils. at first it was cyl 3, then 2wks ago cyl 1&3. and today took it in and its reading cyl 1,3,4. the guys at the dealership. and they said to take the aftermarket intake off, which the intake came from the factory. so that is outted from the problem.
ive cleaned the MAF sensor thoroughly, and it was tested its fine. changed my air filter. ..

there is no other mods to my car, i know my battery has a small leak. and i have been doing regular services too.

if anyone can help me out with my problem cuz im kinda stumped. so is the dealer.

could it be a sensor........ anyone pls help.

i know this sounds dumb, but have you tried reading any codes that the obd2 may be throwing out?
If not, most any auto parts store will go out to the parking lot with you and let you use a code reader. if you have a scanguage that will pull codes as well. sounds to me as though the timing is jacked up...

trust me ive done the codes. i work for toyota so use the code reader everytime. there all the PO3 codes that correspond to the misfire codes. and the the guys at the dealership ran the same codes and there stum, ped too.
i was reading up some other post' and seen about the injectors. any possibility this could be related, seeing as ive changed everything stated in post.

it could be clogged/non firing injectors, but your ecu could be bad too, i know thats very rare, but if you could plug on a diff ecu that would rule it out, check the leads to you injectors with a ohmeter or a test light if its all you have, and see if their sending a signal, check the easy stuff before you spend money, you could even have your injectors flow tested if it comes down to it. you vvti cam could have been faulty(agian) ya never know.

thank you , ill check the injectors first. then ill look into taking a ecu from a new car and trying that.

but if you have anymore suggestions pls keep em coming.

yeah... injectors should be the next step.. but from there track the entire fuel system for problems.. the only other
thing that bothers me about that is you'd think there would also be a lean code, then again I have had a lean code and
only certain driving conditions would trigger it, until I fixed
the problem..
I feel for ya.. these kinds of problems suck!!

I think that at this point, if a sensor that was involved with ignition/fuel was so bad that it was causing multiple,
random, misfires.. you would definetly have a code for that sensor as well, but you never know.. sometimes things
happen just right where the PCM doesn't see a problem, when there is one.. GOOD LUCK!

ok.. that is the reason for the misfire..

injector stuck open, but you would only get a misfire on that cylinder, fuel pressure regulation failure?? havn't heard of
one yet, but you never know..
The MAF is one of the sensors that can get bad, and the PCM doesnt realize it.. I have seen that numerous times..
since it is commanding more fuel accross the board, then maybe it is a sensor

when you get to the dealership, have them swap the MAF for a known good one, and see where your misfire/fuel is at
then.. I got a used one for next to nothing, in perfect shape, on an internet search..

here (from Alll Data/xB service manual):

System to Rich:

Injector Leak/Blockage
MAF meter
ECT sensor
Ignition system
Fuel Pressure
any one of the O2 sensors
EFI relay
ECM/PCM

Misfire:

Open in harness
connector fitment
vacuum (but would be lean)
ignition
injectors
fuel pressure
MAF sensor
ECT sensor
Compression
valve clearance
valve timing
EVAP hoses
ECM/PCM

I would start with the common possibilities between the two, in this order
MAF sensor
ECT sensor
injectors
ignition system
fuel pressure
PCM

Are you losing coolant?
A "bad" head gasket can and will cause engine misfires too. Something to look into...

The best place to look for injectors is a junk yard. Not saying the guys at the dealer don't know what they are saying but for all the injectors to go bad it would be very unlikely. If it has a rich code plus the misfires that rules out any kind of vacuum leak as that will throw a lean code. If you do the injectors and that doesn't work I would check fuel pressure. Chances are you have a bad fuel pressure regulator. I would listen to your dealer first s they have gotten a look at the car and I have not but I am also a toyota tech and thats where I would start if the injectors don't fix it. Let me know how it goes.

ok go 2 ur local advanced or parts store advanced were i live has there own scaner they will scann ur car for free have him rest the codes then sit in the parkin lot start the car up and get the check engine light to come back on do that a couple times and the code that pops up the most... replace that injector...and if you wanna double check it switch that injector with another injector and see if the CEL changes to that cylinder that u switched the bad injector 2....... that's what i useually do at work when all the plugs wire's & coils are good
