There's a chance that I'm getting a 5 spd tC, but before that I want to make sure it's FUN and GOOD.
(1)What I mean is that is it worth is? fun to drive compared to other MT cars?

(2) Good for a beginner? cuz i'm not very good with MT yet. I've been driving in my friend's MT honda accord once a week, it was pretty hard. Then yesterday I drove my other friend's Eclipse and it was AMAZINGLY easy and FUN, I don't know why but it's MUCH EASIER to shift without stalling or anything and it's FUN b/c of the power.

(3) Pls tell me more about the MT that I need to know, such as the problems, advantages or disadvantages compared to other MT cars.

I would really really appreciate it if any tC MT owners out there can answer my Qs, THANKS A BUNCH!

this is the first car that i am driving with a mt.... its alot different from an accord or an eclipse... its a pretty stiff clutch for not being a hydrolic one, and the gearbox is tight. the clutch grab point is pretty far out and close to the full release of the clutch which is amazing once you get used to it. first and second gear are short and speed limiting, quick shifting gears, but provide alot of torque to power you into the higher gears... i am really in love with this car

1.) its fun to drive
2.) its a toyota, so ur really not gonna have issues with the car, as long as u don't rag it

you need to test drive one... might not be so easy in GA but in CA there are so many dealers one of them is bound to have a tc (that was my experience)

so nobody is regreting that they got a MT instead of Auto? Does anyone that owns a 5 spd thinks they should've gotten an Auto instead? I need to decide that but I don't want to regret it. Pls give me your honest opinions! THANK YOU.

it is really fun to drive, you wont regret it, if you are a pro MT drvr.
1st and 2nd are too short and powerfull, this makes it diff. from other MT.

Pls give me your honest opinions! THANK YOU. i was regretting ordering a MT since i live in the city, but after a little bit with the car I am glad I got it. no regrets.

just remember, it is a little different from other manuals with things like where the friction point is that could get you frustrated at first, but you will pick up quick.

I heard there's a clutch problem or something like that, is it true and is it a big problem?

no no, i mean i've read some posts regarding the clutch. Some said it has an issue for the tC. Like it's easily breakable or somethinkg. Nobody heard of that?

It shouldn't be, haven't heard of it, and like scionbandit said, it is a Toyota! I prefer AT, thats b/c I personally haven't drove a MT before, hehe, kinda sucks, after having a Mazda6 for a year, I wish I had a MTX, but we do have tiptronic sports transmission, so I'm happy!

You mean the Semi-Auto transmission? I heard that Mazda's Semi-Auto breaks VERY EASILY. (That's why I chose scion instead of Mazda, otherwise I would've gotten a Mazda3 instead.)

If the gearing was the same on the AT as on the MT and it weighed the same, then I would get an AT since it would accelerate quicker and would use less gas. I ended up getting a MT for my wife. She's used to it and I think driving a MT makes you a better driver.

Hear this though, the AT is the better choice! Not in the tC, but overall... It's quiet. It's fast. It's sophisticated. The newer ones have the same number of gears as an MT. You have engine braking too! Plus shifing betwean gears can be faster than MT (in the new AT's). Too bad that manufacturer's don't make performance AT's.

I'm an MT-person, but I would prefer an AT if it didn't weigh as much, if it had the same gearing as an MT, if it was computer controlled for performance, if it didn't take a second before the car actually accelerated (when pushing on the gas pedal), if it didn't control the amount of gas you give it for non-performance reasons (emissions for example), etc.

Did you say the AT saves more fuel? Actually I think that's not true. I have read from many sites and magazine, and heard from many friends that MT saves more Fuel, mileage, it's faster, has more control, and it's FUN. That's y I would choose MT over AT unless the traffic here is bad, which it isn't THAT BAD, it's just occasionally. Thanks for the opinions tho!

I have driven AT's for 9 years now and the only regret I have about buying a MT is when I am stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, going upwards on a bridge or overpass ;) :D

Yup, those are the ONLY disadvantages to me also. Other than that, MT is better than AT in almost every way.

I learned to drive stick on a tC - can't say that it was extra easy or lots of fun to learn - after about two weeks I was seriously doubting my choice, but since then it all got better. Now (after 5 months) I'm very happy and do not want to go back to auto. Now that I'm somewhat comfortable with the MT I drive my friend's cars and noticed that tC is on the tricky side - Corollas are much easier to drive and Mazda3 was even easier - I'd blame it on gear ratios, but it's just what makes tC so much fun.

Yep, check out the specs. for the Scion tC.

Manual: 22 (City) / 29 (Highway)
Automatic: 23 (City) / 30 (Highway)

Newer automatic trannies are capable of saving fuel.

The EPA numbers do seem to make AT a tad better with gas mileage. And it does make sense - even AT 4th is a way taller gear than MT 5th (when I'm at 75mph, the engine is running at 3500rpm, same speed in auto will be barely closing the 3K). So it should be better with mileage. But...

Real life is completely different. I drive pretty aggressively and shift high, but get an average of about 26-28MPG, the best I got was 31MPG, worst - about 23MPG. My local buddies with auto tC's get anywhere from 19(worst) to about 25(best) - and they did try to drive the car as "granny-style" as they could to get better mileage.

So who knows.

Hmm... Who knows? In theory an automatic transmission with a good computer controlling gear switching should help to reduce fuel consumption. The throttle is electronic on the tC too, so even this could be programmed to help save fuel. I actually wonder if it is?

wow, so far not a single one REALLY doubt or regret their choice of choosing a 5 spd. That's not bad. So no one heard or experienced any problems with the 5 spd yet?

My experience with learning how to drive a MT with the tC has been an enjoyable one. Or learning still that is ;). I find driving with a stick is a lot more fun and enjoyable than just using one foot and pressing down on a pedal. But maybe that's just me. Overall, wouldn't trade my tC in for an AT. =).
