Anybody know what the drag co number actually is.

A search doesn't work, cause some idiot named a whole forum for it.

drag coefficient as i understand it is how the air reacts when it hits something.

for instance, a formula one car has a drag coefficient of .28
im not sure exactly of the xB. we did wind tunnel testing of miniature models in our autos class out of foam and it didnt turn out good :cry:

some people in my class had a better coefficient of drag backwards than i did forwards
let me sum this up for ya: xB drag=not good.

I'm bett'n that it's a negative number. I'm not positive about that though and I'm not trying to be negative about our automobiles. Well let put it like this, have you ever tried to fart against a tornado?

I just went to a few sites that listed XB technical information. If they did have a slot for CF, it was left blank or NA. I just couldn't find it either.

I even looked under Toyota bB listings. Oh well. I tried.

incorrect, the lower the darg co. the lower the number....

the reason the other cars have a high Cd. is a rear wing to create down force also increases the Cd. (plus if you have extra ponies to compesate who cares)

i don't think anybody tested it for drag....

are you tring to say the vette or 350z is more areodynamic than the prius??? have you looked at them...i would swear the prius looks more aerodymanic...

The drag coefficient is the drag force on the car divided by the drag force on a standard object, usually a flat plate, of the same frontal area.

0.2 is terrific, 0.3 is OK, 0.4 is bad, 0.5 is horrible.

Some CD figures are rather odd. for example, the Cd of a VW bus is better than the Cd of an aircooled VW bug! However, the frontal area of a bus is greater, so it ends up that the bus has a lower top speed with the same engine.

The xB is probably in the 0.35 region. The front is fairly rounded to keep flow attached, while the rear has an abrupt cutoff that is also OK. "Fastback" cars are actually draggier than "cutoff" cars unless the designer is willing to put a very long "boat tail" on the rear end of the car.

FWIW, this review at ZDNet (http://review.zdnet.com/2005_Scion_xB_4dr_Wagon_1_5L_4cyl_4A/4505-10866_16-31352563.html) says the drag coefficient is 0.35.

(Yeah, I know - zombie thread back from the grave! but I was looking for Scion xB drag coefficient (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-21,GGGL:en&q=scion+xb+drag+coefficient) and two SL threads popped up; neither had a definitive answer, though George nailed it!)
