... with the body shop. :(

No pics yet (when i get out of work)... but finalized the appointment for Monday to finally get something fixed.

I don't know how long ago, but someone must have tapped my rear bumper in a parking lot or something. You can see where it was pushed in and the top surface of the bumper (where the applique would go) is pinched a tiny bit. It's not incredibly noticeable at first glance.... but it's annoying to me and looks crappy when you get up to it.

So I finally went through Progressive to get it fixed. I have an appt for Monday at 11 to stop by a body shop and see what they can do. Shouldn't be too bad - should just be a bumper cover and the styrofoam under it... if that. But it will easily come out to more than my deductible ($250).

Will have "before" pics up this evening.

At least I have rental coverage and Enterprise should be meeting me at the shop with a car. I really, really hope that it is not another Dodge Caliber. That's what I got from them last time. :(

It's just sad that so many people are like that. It's not like you wouldn't know that you just backed into someone... at least with the amount of damage as mine.

My g/f still makes fun of me when I try to find a good place to park.

ud be shocked at all the dings and dents on my car from hit and runs... NY is just full of horrible drivers and horrible human beings.. i actually just found another nasty ding on my car yesterday.. i am still pretty angry about that

The funny part is that door dings are usually what I'm most worried about. I try to park on the end and as close to the far line as possible.

^ You're not alone. If I can't park as you described, or can't take up two spaces, then I just go home. It's not worth the grief, I'd go ballistic if I found a parking lot ding.

Just dropped it off today. Got a Pacifica in the meantime. :( Could have gotten something worse I guess... but was just hoping for something small to beat up. Oh well, insurance covers $30/day anyway.

Here's a quick pic of the damage... like I said, nothing major, but you can obviously see the scratches and you should be able to see the "line" where the bumper was pinched on the flat part. And there are scuffs all down the back part of the bumper where the contact was made.

Didn't get an ETA though... just waiting to hear.

My back bumper replacement took 5 days, so dont hold your breathe...

As long as it's done by the 30th... well... make that the 23rd. I have to get my NST pulleys on and then have another show to go to before the next autox event.

BTW... this Pigcifica is awful.

that cant be buffed out?

then the black just touch up paint?

ack154
08-12-2008, 01:16 AM
No, it's pinched along the flat surface and there is deformity. If it wasn't for that... then ya, likely buff and paint.

you should see my back bumper

or even worse... the load of c*** on my front bumper

Ya, my front bumper and hood are a mess with chips and what not. Annoying.

Just got a call from the insurance company... he said I should have it back tomorrow! Said there was no other damage. They're going to heat the bumper a bit to smooth that part out and then sand/paint and it's done. Though also said there was a small part they have to put a little filler in to smooth over.

But back tomorrow? Damn.

BTW... here's a pic pointing out of what I was concerned about since it's not very prominent by itself.

wait.. u can fix things like this through insurance? does that raise ur premium or anything? cuz i ahve a crap load of hit and run marks on my car... u think gieco insurance would fix it if i paid hte deductible?

ack154

They should be able to... but you might have to ask about the premium going up or something. I would expect it to increase a little bit though... just b/c it's the nature of how they work. Forget that I've paid them like $3k over the last 3 yrs and have asked for nothing until this...

But ya, you'd have to ask to be sure. This is my first actual insurance claim and repair so I don't know - but I wanted it fixed anyway, so I'll take the hit if I need to.

I have to say, so far, Progressive has really made this all very simple. Dropping the car off took about 5 min which was mostly signing for the rental. They called today with the update that I should have it tomorrow and will let me know when it's ready tomorrow. I've been pretty impressed.

The only reason you wouldn't do this through insurance is if it costs less to fix than your deductible (in my case, I'm OK). My deductible for this repair is $250 and the total bill will be like $386. If I had a $500 deductible, I wouldn't have bothered.

The ability to have your insurance pay for something depends on the type of coverage you have. If you have minimum "safe-auto" coverage, they won't do jack about it. If you get comprehensive coverage, then there's a greater change they'll do something to help you out.

yeah my deductible is $500, but theres def. more then $500 in damages to my car.. pretty much every panel has some sorta ding or dent or scrap on it.. (i hate NY for this reason alone)... im not all too sure how willing my insurance is going to pay for this... perhaps i shall give them a call..

I'm happy. It was a minor thing, but now it's back to normal.

Now if I can just muster up some $$ to get my hood and front bumper repaired. Stupid stones...

Ya, I see no difference in color in the sunlight or shade. Looks pretty damn good. At least I know a good shop to go to around here now if I need anything painted and installed. :)

Total was $386 I think. Or something like that... I just had to pay my $250 deductible.

does the bumper look better then the rest of the car?

ack154
08-14-2008, 10:38 PM
It looks a little bit better... but mostly b/c the rest of the car needs a good wax.
