Default Drilled and slotted rotors - need comments

thinking about getting some for my 08 tC. looking to get comments and reviews about this this group buy i came across. I already know about brake dust but I think that they have fixed that issue.

you don't want drilled rotors, they compromise the structural integrity of the rotor and can lead to cracking uder severe conditions.

the only time you would want cross drilled brakes is if they were forged with the drilled holes in them to maintain structural integrity, or the rotors are oversized to provide greater heat capacity.

Well the brake dust is going to happen with the Axxis Ultimates no matter what. I have them front and rear and have significantly more dust than OEM (really none there).

Don't know about the rotors though. I'd typically stay away from drilled... but they seem to be more of a "looks" thing than performance anyway.

when you mean "severe conditions" do you mean racing type situations? this is just a daily driver and i dont like to brake hard so i always keep my distance and feather the brake. i would like to be safe no matter how good it looks so if it cracks under normal daily driving, i wont get drilled.

i like showing off more than performance so im putting this mod under my 'looks' rather than performance category .

they are also doing slotted only for the same price. i still have a few days to decide. just doing some research.

thanks for the input draxcaliber & ack154

In all honesty, you should just either stay with your OEM brakes or go with a big brake kit. Our rotors are so small that putting on drilled/slotted ones just says "hey guys, look at me and my cute little brakes".

You won't really see the benefits of a drilled or slotted rotor on a DD that gets no track time. The whole point of drilled and slotted is to dissipate the heat thats built up during "severe" or "racing" conditions.

IMO a waste of money if you have good brakes and don't track the car.

a lot of things we do to our cars can be seen as a waste of money. im not saying that it will never see a track but there are only a few in my area and for the most part, its a crappy track but its legal.

i like to stand out from the crowd and i dont think that there are any scikotics in san antonio that have them, not too sure about TSE. and because of that uniqueness, i like them. i heard from a fellow member about the rotors warping from being drilled + heat.

i just want to separate fact from fiction

oh and CDogbert, got a link for that big brake kit? what comes in it?

I think the red and blues up front would be unique enough? lol

It really depends on the internal design of the rotors themselves. What you stated is true for those build with "pillar" vanes, but does not apply to "slotted" vane types.

I just put "dimpled and slotted" (FINALLY!!) rotors on my tC a couple of weeks back...

My OEM brakes were getting soft, so I swapped out the rotors (which I got at Xmas!) and Axxis Ultimate pads
at the same time. They also have a black zinc coating on them. If you don't want drilled then get the dimpled.
If interested, shoot me a PM and I'll tell you where I purchased them. (Don't want to thread jack.)
Waste of money? Maybe... but they sure do brake better than OEM and look purdy to!!

That's the TRD one that just came out not too long ago, if I'm not mistaken.

There's a couple more. You can clearly see why I would suggest a BBK if you really want your brakes to pop and set the car out.

what i hate most about slotted or drilled rotors is that you can't resurface them. and for normal every day driving, they're not worth it.

My set up cost me less than $320. It may not look as slick as a BBK but my tC is a DD. I have other priorities that
that I spend my $$$ on, (house payment anyone?) so I don't have $1200+ to spend on a brake set up. If you want
to spend a little more than me, look at the StopTech II brake kit. Here's where I got my rotors; rotorpros.com. Rich is
great to deal with and his prices are awesome! Plus, the rotors are top notch. Very good quality!

I agree with no track time rotors being a non essential item, and i do agree they are mostly for looks....................but is that so wrong?

actually, i learned in my brake class today that it does make a difference, albiet a tiny difference but i guess it falls along the lines of...take what you can.

cuz you know, that IS a life saving apparatus
