Is the stock tC wheel lug centric or hub centric?

davedavetc- well I'd like to think I do. lol but i am wondering if the stock tC wheels are hub centric where all the weight is on the center hub, or if they are lug-centric where all the weight of the car is distributed onto the lugs.

It also is something I needed to know based on balancing the tires. If they are lug centric it's a completely different adapter than those used for hub centric wheels.

 

the tc comes with hub centric wheels unhub-centric wheels cause the tc to have all of the load on the wheels studs. find more info about the damage by searching 25 hours THUNDER HILL scion tc.

So my other question then, does it matter how the stock wheel is balanced? That's why I was asking. The place I went to was saying that it should have an adapter plate that fits into the lug holes, to center it to balance.

Other shops are saying a cone into the hub and that's it for balancing. Does it make a difference?

 

they remove the wheels off the car to balance, so as long as it gets done correct i dont see why the car would change the results. i've never had issues when getting it done.

Hubcentric wheels should be balanced with the coned insert, as that balances the wheel to the hub center, not to the lug holes.

 

thanks doc! That's what I needed to know! they had balanced them with the lug holes and I didn't feel that was right.. besides they got the lug hole adapter fingers stuck inside my lug holes had to pull it back out.. not cool.

was worried they warped the lug holes, but I'm probably worrying for nothing, wheel is stronger than that.

I'll go back to another shop and have them re-do the balance using the cone on the hub.
