Scion xB, standard safety features
(For some reason this post went to: Regional - Mid Atlantic)
( I am closing that thread and posting into the xB forum)
After this mornings snowy NY ride in to work I was very impressed
on how well my xB handled in the snow. I think it behaves better than
my old AWD Subaru. I was curious to know what Toyota did
to make it work so well, so I looked it up.
After searching the net, I found a little info on Toyota's (Scions) website
and bits and pieces of info from various car reviews all over the web.
So... let me know if this is technically accurate.
If so, this is one awesome little car!
Scion xB (standard safety features)
Safety Cage:
Safety measures include a rigid body shell and impact absorbing
structure. The passenger compartment is designed with reinforced cross and side
members that are laid out horizontally to help spread crash impact forces to the
vehicle's upper body across the entire body structure.
Gen2 Air Bags:
Dual two-stage airbags with sensors to detect the severity of a frontal collision.
Seatbelt Pretensioners
In the event of frontal collision, front seatbelt pretensioners automatically tighten
the occupants belt, then force limiters help to absorb the energy of an occupant's forward momentum.
Antilock Braking System (ABS)
Prevent brake lock-up and shorten braking distances during panic stops
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
Provide even, straight, controlled braking, and prevent skidding during panic stops.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
Automatically controls the throttle and brakes during emergency turns and stops to reduce skidding.
Uses yaw sensors to determind vehicles path -vs- drivers intended path to activate 1 or more brakes to correct steering and direction.
This enhances the steering response to further improve performance.
Traction Control (TRAC)
Prevents wheel spin on starts and under hard acceleration on slippery surfaces
I love my xB!
:D

I love mine too. :D RPM
One (and only one) of the review articles stated that the Scion xB
used technology from the Lexus cars and a similar VSC system
from the Land Cruiser.
Not sure if it's true, but it sure sounds great to me!

Not to be confused with BA or Brake Assist (Lexus LX5470 has this): "Maximises braking pressure in emergency braking situations, thus helping the car to stop in a shorter distance"
