scheffman..

What they're trying to say is that you shouldn't try to be cheap about it...

However I feel there are certain things you can be frugal on..

Try finding a used kit in the For Sale section - it'll save you atleast $1,000 or so.

Just don't skimp out on the tuning. Be prepared to pay for 3-4 hours of tuning from scratch.

Don't listen to people who say "tuning should only take a couple of hours.." - that's BS. To get a good idle, open loop, and closed loop tune, it'll take a while.

Most kits will produce between 240-300whp on 6-10 psi. It just depends on the setup. A goal of 250whp would be good.

What everybody means is "best" and "cheap" do not get along very well. You might as well ask these F/I folks what they have and how much $$$ they shelled out for their boost. Believe me, you don't want to risk blowing something up, eh? Be ready to shell out at least $4000++++++++. Personally I'd rather buy something brand new than a mysterious used one. But that's just me

I'm not opposed to buying anything used but I also don't know what is considered good? Is their any kits that look great on the for sale section? I really don't know what I'm looking for I never really got into cars tell I bought this baby.

Just to give you an idea on how much everything can cost new.. use me as an example (in the order I purchased):

Competition Stage 4 Clutch ... $350 (stock is okay for short while)
Competition 9lb Flywheel ... $300 (not really needed)
Turbonetics Kit ... $3995
Autometer gauges and pod ... $240
Innovate Wideband gauge ... $250

That's a total of $5,135 - this doesn't include an exhaust or tuning.. because the kit comes pretuned at 8psi.

id stay away from any of the ZPI kits since theyre no longer a company and you wont have that much tech. support for them.

Go with Dezod or TurboToyotas

I wouldn't suggest taking a chance with cheap stuff if you've already invested $16k in a pretty decent quality vehicle. Why ruin it?

Stay with the right components that are proven, so your investment doesn't go down the tubes because of a failed wastegate or turbo kit design. Maybe if you bought a $2k beater I would understand, but not a 2008 tC.

Hope that helps!

Used kits aren't bad as long as it's a high quality kit and it was properly maintained.

I've personally seen our kits last a few years with no signs of problems. Not sure about the others, but there are other decent kits out there too.
