View Full Version : CEL with P0031 code
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 07:16 PM I'm just installed the DME header, did the anti-fouler trick to the o2 sensor on s-pipe then got the CEL with P0031 code. So I've replaced the primary o2 sensor on the header but CEL still there with same code :tap:
Any suggestion?
btw my car isn't under factory warranty
nlataille18 08-24-2008, 07:22 PM P0031....HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
IDK what it means but thats what your code reads.
has something to do with the frist 02 sensor
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 07:24 PM i replaced it with new Bosch o2 sensor but the CEL still there . :|
Scott8 08-24-2008, 07:26 PM did you clear the code?
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 07:27 PM i did 3 times already :(
CSOCSO 08-24-2008, 07:31 PM try to replace the o2 sensor on the s pipe... and how did you do the fouler trick on the s pipe?
did you tried to put 3??? i have 3 on my s pipe because the CEL came back with 2 fouler
Scott8 08-24-2008, 07:31 PM what kind of CEL fix do you have?
Also, what grade gas do you use? Since I was running 93 from my turbo when I installed my header again the ECU was use to the 93 with the header. when I went back to regular gas it made the CEL go back on until I put 93 back in. weird as crap but took the header back off, ran it with regular gas again, then reinstalled the header and cel and hasn't come back on since!
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 07:34 PM i use the anti fouler trick on the s-pipe with 2 spark plug (1 drilled 1/2" & 1 not)
Always use highest gas grade since I bought it
But the CEL code is P0031, is it related to o2 sensor oon s-pipe ? Hmmm
CSOCSO 08-24-2008, 07:36 PM ^^^P0031....HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
i have no clue what is that means..

unless you are running F/I I would save the extra cost on the premium gas and use the regular since that is what the car calls for
you have the anti foulers in the right order? You may also want to try the MMW CEL fix since that is a full pipe with a right angle
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 07:41 PM I'm going to buy 2 more spark plug to install. Let see what happens
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 09:11 PM god .... 4 spark plugs ... clear code .... but still CEL with same code
B_Real45 08-24-2008, 09:52 PM Did you clear the code and then reset the ECU after installing the new O2 sensor?
The code may come back if it's not cleared and the ECU reset.
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 10:05 PM do i need to do both ECU reset and clear code form my scanner?
Scott8 08-24-2008, 10:08 PM do i need to do both ECU reset and clear code form my scanner?
scanner usually does the trick. couldn't hurt pulling the battery lines and doing a full reset
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 10:12 PM if scanner can do the trick, it means the CEL still stick with me ...
blacktrdtc 08-24-2008, 10:19 PM i replaced it with new Bosch o2 sensor but the CEL still there . :|
what kind of bosch p2 sensor did you replace the stock one with? did you make sure to get the wideband? i think it has something to do with the primary o2 sensor.
Scott8 08-24-2008, 10:20 PM going to ask this since no one has... is it plugged in correctly?
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 10:21 PM sure it is in the hole it supposed to be :)

sounds like another thread we are both on....
bank 1 is the primary on the header
short band replacement of a wide band would still throw a CEL.
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 10:22 PM is there any way that we can do a full inspection for this code?
Scott8 08-24-2008, 10:23 PM sure it is in the hole it supposed to be :)
not in the hole
the plug from the end of the sensor to the car
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 10:26 PM oh my mistake lol
I cut down the connector from OEM sensor then reconnect it to the new one. This o2 sensor i universal sensor, I bought from Ad.Auto Zone with their helps
Scott8 08-24-2008, 10:33 PM is it a wideband sensor?
ucb2008 08-24-2008, 10:35 PM Idk, the seller just asked me what year, make , then gave me this universal one
weeloTC 08-24-2008, 11:10 PM i had this same problem about 2 months ago, but the o2 sensor fixed the problem, unless you got a bad sensor i have no clue, and i know this is off subject, but can you post a pic of the header installed, im thinking of gettting the dme but still havent seen it installed, online it looks like a brush silver look, just seeing if i could see one installed, thanks
weeloTC 08-24-2008, 11:12 PM oh yeah, and i used a oem one to fix the problem, so the one your using might be the problem, i wouldnt trust those universal ones when it comes to the wideband sensor
ucb2008 08-25-2008, 12:03 AM Here's my DME header & the GIANT antifouler :P

pioneer1976 08-25-2008, 12:12 AM Idk, the seller just asked me what year, make , then gave me this universal one
thats your problem your using a Crappy universal. You do not want to use universal on our cars, i have replaced so many universal o2 sensor and they crap out alot. p0031 is the heater circuit on the b1s1 o2. that will have nothing to do with your antifouler on the s pipe. Replace the front o2 with a oem part and clear the code with your scanner and be done with it..
ucb2008 08-25-2008, 12:23 AM hmm ... anyone tell me where can i get that OEM primary o2 sensor for my 08 tC?
ucb2008 08-25-2008, 12:27 AM thanks man, thats ezactually what i wanted to see, looks alot like my alphawerks i got rid of, im def ordering one this week!!!
yeah man, I love that golden .... trouble lol j/k
pioneer1976 08-25-2008, 12:38 AM trdsparks should have them
ucb2008 08-25-2008, 01:07 AM lol only for 06 tC

weeloTC 08-25-2008, 01:37 AM yes it will work, they are all the same, sometimes they just dont update their catalogs
Dilirious 08-25-2008, 02:21 AM hmm ... anyone tell me where can i get that OEM primary o2 sensor for my 08 tC?
I'd say the dealer ship but you know thats gonna cost you
ucb2008 08-25-2008, 02:24 AM I a deal from local guy that will sell a new Denso o2 sensor with connector for 90
Should I take it?
ucb2008 08-25-2008, 02:29 AM but i wanna make sure that code comes from bad o2 sensor.
How can we be sure about that code? any ideas for inspections?
