Didn't the 07s have an issue with the HVAC lighting/controls just going dead for no reason?

I like how that basically says the tC is getting slowly but steadily worse every year.

Even though none of the mechanicals really changed. Which is why the CR rankings need to be taken with an entire shaker of salt. Both they and JD power are just megaphones for the idgits that yell the loudest. In their estimations, 10 complaints outweigh 90 people that didn't. It's statistical averages at their very worst.

Well put. Call me a jaded misanthrope, but isn't yelling the loudest the preferred way of justifying your opinion nowadays?

Even worse is the amount of stock that people put into CR and JD rankings, even though their data is simplistic at best, and misleading at worst.

What is the deal with "body hardware" for the 05s?

CR and JD are at the best, good places to start looking/shopping. Get some ideas of what the best things may be... and then do your own research from there.

JD Power ratings are bought by mfr's and not worth the paper they're printed on.

CR ratings are compiled from annual surveys submitted by CR subscribers who actually own or lease the cars they report on.

"Power equipment and accessories: Cruise control, heated or cooled seats, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, alarm or security system, backup camera/sensors."

The only bad ratings I see is the squeaks and rattles. But I like red and black, so to me those colors are all excellent in my book!

how did the suspension and brakes get worse from 2005 to 2007? then the audio system got worse in 07 suddenly? oh i know, i bet it is because people were stupid and complaining about the ASL changing the volume as they drive and thinking something was broken!

then, did the paint really get better in 07?

also, how did the body hardware and power equipment change? they really need to explain that one since they are the same from year to year.

Scores are based on the percentage of survey respondents who reported problems for that trouble spot, compared with the average model of that year.
Nothing on the car got better or worse ... the Scion tC CR respondents rated those trouble spots, which were then compared to the average of all the 2007 vehicle responses ...the icons are just indicating how well those areas for the tC compared to the average 2007 vehicle.

The HVAC did have an issue in 07, which could lend to some of that.

Otherwise, CR and JD are terrible statistics fed by a lot of people crying about what is wrong with the car, but no one going out of their way to tell any good (Typical in any type of rating like this). Statisticians have torn them apart in the past. I dont even look at them for the most part.

i was a victim of this and that is probably at least part of the reason for the lower rating. it was fixed under warranty though. when i went to have it fixed the guy at the dealer said it was the 2nd tC to come in that week for the HVAC lights going out. there have no problems since it was repaired

the better paint rating for the 07's might make sense too. mine came with a clearbra - didnt cost anything extra. not sure if all the 07+ tC's have this.

other than that i feel the ratings are accurate. the tC has been extremely reliable. it was a purchase i do not regret.
