Default Sad, Sad Day.....

Yesterday, my poor little black cherry 06 xB was mutilated in a front side collision with a ford bumper - she rear ended a newspaper delivery van and fishtailed to hit me, going all the way up the front drivers side and smashing into the windshield. I can now attest to the stability of the frame in our cars, as it held and didn't let the truck bumper hit me in the head.

The insurance adjuster called an hour ago and told me he's declaring it a total loss. The frame and electrical were estimated at 10K when he made this decision. I've started halfheartedly calling the scion dealers to see if they have anything red in stock, but I'm just so not ready to relinquish my baby to the junk heap... Before this, she didn't have a scratch or ding on her at all.

Anyone know what the resale value of an auto 06 with 60K on it would be?

why don't you try and buy it back and use the money thats left over to get it fixed? a mom and pop shop could fix it with used parts for a fraction of the price of a larger shop, you might have to spend a few hundred on top of what they give you but I bet a mom and pop shop could repair it for most of what you get back

God damned pickup truck/SUV drivers. Insane idiots. Tard was probably on a cell phone. Sue for injury.

How does it come up to that much money? From the angle it looks like only the hood, front panel, and light was damaged. Or is there a lot of stuff under the hood? Do they take it the car if it's totaled because there is soooo much that's still good on/in it.

Are you thinking of finding another one used or changing to something else?

That would take out the battery, fuse box, air cleaner, and the relay center. Electrical would have to be replaced for sure...

I'm so sorry to hear/see that, man... Here's hopin you can find another BCP!

They shouldnt total it. My car was involved in an accident where BOTH axels had to be replaced, fron control arms, chassis was straightened, and a few others. Maybe cause I have an RS1 its different.

If you really like you car, you should talk to the adjuster.

If you can get to Muskegon Michigan, I'll let you have her.... I haven't done anything with a salvage license yet, so I should still be able to get it. Also got the nice round tail-lights too. My old skool moonies were trashed before that, so I wouldn't offer them to anyone.

The issue of the damage is in the frame. The truck's bumper smacked at the light, rolled up the front of the car, and then hit the frame at the windshield - the cage was damaged. Also, the door is sealed shut, the roof is scratched from the glass, and about 4 other things I can't remember as I was in shock from the conversation. I was in the grocery store and literally leaning on the milkcase from the conversation. He had to think I was some kind of whacko... The estimator hadn't even gotten to the electrical when he came up with the total loss. Here's a closer shot of the frame issue (little blurry - sorry - it was raining):

Ya know what really stinks? I JUST replaced that windshield exactly one week earlier!

The electrical was indeed shot to heck. This is the world's worst shot (again, I blame the rain, or perhaps it was my shaking). You can see how close that teenager was to hitting the battery, but she sheared off some of the fuse box:

I already begged and pleaded with the adjuster, but apparently in Michigan, he has to declare cars that require repairs that cost 75% of their value as a loss.

No old skool xB's to be had in this area that are autos (I can't drive a stick).
I've found a long distance dealer a couple hours away willing to drive me up a blackberry '09, and after driving one at the closest dealer, I *might* be o.k. with it....

It's just not sponge mom's square car, though.... (that's what my daughter used to call my box). If I get it I'll have to come up with a new name...

Heartbreaking!!! Sorry for your loss. I'm sure you can find the car you want, then take a trip and get it. Good luck, Gerry
