View Full Version : xD headlight paintaganza!!!
xseveredveganx 09-08-2008, 07:10 AM My buddy has number 13 RS 1.0. Sick little car, that's for sure. I painted the headlights in my xB a couple weeks ago, he caught sand and had to have his done. So I did.
Less talk, more rock.

ChelsDS 09-11-2008, 04:55 AM Wow you did a good job! Would you be able to remember all the steps you did to separate the headlamps to do a write-up?
Yea the iST headlights are different :) I like them so much more than ours :(
xseveredveganx 09-11-2008, 06:23 AM The iST headlights are pretty rad.
I don't have night shots of the LED tails. I'll try to get some pics if I see my buddy this weekend.
As far as a write up, there's already one. It's a pretty basic modification.
ChelsDS 09-11-2008, 06:50 AM Oh I know but just wanted to see if there was any thing else to it :)
xseveredveganx 09-11-2008, 08:15 AM *sigh*
Since I can't say no to a girl...
A couple little tricks... Hmmm...
The amber reflector is all 1 piece and held on with 3 clips. The clip farthest back of the headlight is kind of a pain to mess with. The 2 other clips threw me off, too. The one is larger (the top one I believe), so I pried a little on the bottom. The bottom one popped out fairly easily, then the top one slid out with ease. The back one was still a little tricky. I pushed it up and down a little and it came out. No problems. I tried tinting the actual reflectors with some tinted clearbra film I had my buddy (foose801, hey bro!) scoop up for me. The stuff was rathe thick and cumbersome to work with, so I scrapped that idea. I painted the entire inside of the turn signal/reflector area black.
I think it turned out better than I expected.
Like has been previously stated, there's only 2 screws back there. So when resealing, make sure to push around the entire headlight while it's hot. There's no way you can use the screws to really squeeze it together.
pickledchang 09-11-2008, 08:23 AM how much didnt painting the turn signal reflecting surface reduce their brightness? is it still noticeable from the front of the car with the headlights on?
i know what im doing this sunday, lol...
xseveredveganx 09-11-2008, 08:36 AM Well, since the bulb is still fairly bright, it's still fully 100% visible. I'd suggest painting everything, especially with a dark car like yours.
Heck, most auto body paint stores sell body color in aersol. Go hit them up and paint your headlights body color! I've been trying to convince my friends with an xB, xD, and tC that are all NBM to paint them body color!
pickledchang 09-11-2008, 01:18 PM i may try that if i can find a color that matches almost exact.
Pimpe_Ok 09-11-2008, 09:41 PM

This Friday? You have my number, hit me up any time. I work at the 'Bucks tomorrow and I'm thinking about taking the night off from my full time job. It kind of depends if my LED shipment gets here... :P
But, yeah. I'm sure I can do it. Just let me know what you want.
foose801 09-11-2008, 11:56 PM my buddy (foose801, hey bro!)
what up yo?
so lemme know if you get rollin on junior's lights this weekend... i think you've convinced me to go body color on mine, but if we knock it out friday it's gotta be an all-nighter stylie cuz i work til like 9 or 10 i think....
brownsky 09-12-2008, 12:19 AM lol funny to see all this convo and these pics on my car.

Yeah, bro. It's cause your car's sick!
Tint them! It'll make them even cooler!
I don't know how TYC did such a good job on the xD's tails and kinda flopped on the xB2's... Don't get me wrong, I dig my tails. But I think these are a helluvalot cleaner.
brownsky 09-12-2008, 12:22 AM ya i plan on putting a light tint on them. they should be much cleaner being a slight bit darker
xseveredveganx 09-12-2008, 12:23 AM FYI, I think your xD is cooler than your tC.
ha!
brownsky 09-12-2008, 12:34 AM lol, i been spending all my money on my Xd lately... thats why lol. i still have alot more fun driving the Tc. :lalala:
pickledchang 09-15-2008, 01:40 AM um, yeah... my lights WOULD NOT come apart. baked them for 15 min @ 225 degrees... wouldnt budge. dont think im gonna mess with it - hopefully some aftermarket projectors come out soon.
xseveredveganx 09-15-2008, 03:33 AM There's little protusions in the clear lens that pop out of small rectangular holes. You have to pry the black up a little bit, get a screwdriver in there, and pry them open. It's a little bit of a brutal process. Not for the faint of heart. :D
drew05 09-15-2008, 03:52 PM that looks way better.
pickledchang 09-17-2008, 04:34 AM yeah, i pried the black part of the clips out of the way, still wounldnt seperate. i may have another go at it another weekend when i feel more determined.
Drew's xD is definitely sexy! *drool*
Can't wait to see it in person again!

i own an XB2...try baking them for 30 minutes instead of 15...and try to look for a DIY cause on the XB2..there are some screws that hold the lens to the housing.
BTW...sweet looking XD xseveredveganx. I saw that RS in the showroom and got jealous...Love the paint, love the kit, love the rims..great job!!
Wow,
Uou guys have Sick Cars!
