if you click on the pics, it'll take you to a detailed thread with more pics on how he made those installs.

Gonna do an install but much simpler like the Vette install.....taking out the jack and foam and also the ED SQ10 box......gonna make a floor to replace the stock floor cover and set the sub boxes on it......then cut out a amp size hole in it to drop the amp rack into and then another floor so it all sits higher than the amp and put mesh over it......LED the amp rack to shine through the mesh and mount the ED amp badge onthe mesh.

The second floor should pin in the sub boxes pretty good for no movement and it should be able to be primed several coats and then painted body color and clear coated as will be the amp boxes......

I will have to keep my jack in a bag under the floor but that is ok......think it will work and should not be too expensive to build.......maybe a couple of hundred in materials and beer.

Zindy
09-10-2008, 01:26 AM
wonder if I will ned fans with the mesh.......may have to get one to push air in and out.

Three of us ended up at Shari's until just after midnight, everyone else just seemed to sort of vanish. Felt kind of ridiculous since we were in a space they set aside for us for a party of 15. *sigh*

Like folks already said, we meet at the Tacoma location every month, second Friday, 8 PM, rain, shine or snow.

(Olympia every first Friday, Seattle every third Friday, etc.)

See: http://scion.meetup.com/30/calendar/

Glad you got the bra for Penny, hope she likes it, Elbert! :)

Too bad about the stone. :(

Just for the record, I believe we had 31 cars at the meet tonight.

fokai
09-13-2008, 07:34 AM
Wow, that's a great showing... Does Tacoma have the largest meet?

Tomas
09-13-2008, 07:45 AM
Not historically, I believe that honor falls to Seattle, but the last two times (33 and 31 cars) were outstanding showings in Tacoma. :D

BZinn1
09-13-2008, 08:14 AM
Well somehow I cannot get to sleep......too tired I guess.........bad part of the meet is the 4 cop cars that showed up.......seems they told the people at Krispy Kreme to leave and go somewhere else.......that somewhere else was our meet........cop gave us the riot act.......amazing how we are the only people in town doing nothing wrong and we get treated like dirt by the cops..........

I understand their point of view very well, but at the same time they should go take care of rounding up the people that are making issues for the general public.......

We all ended up leaving after the 20 cars form the Mall arrived......it looked as if it was a stupid idea to stay........or perhaps those people that came to our meet spot fromthe Mall are the ones who are tired of the constant issues related to that spot........one could only hope....... :tap:

Sorry I am just tired and sore and grumpy.......been doing 3 peoples jobs at work for 7 months now due to on the job injuries.......got shorted on my paycheck due to someone in personel not being able to add to 40.........got big time shorted........trying to pay off my bills so I can have a xmas for my family.......or at this point.....dinner.....LOL.......well better go try to get some sleep.......

flipguy206
09-13-2008, 11:25 AM
lol I can't get any sleep either....well maybe the fact that I work nights is why...sorry to hear you got shorted...dude that sucks...I hate hearing about jobs screwing over workers....I can't wait to quit my regular job and work full time at the gym...I've been screwed one too many times at my regular job and I've had it....I don't give them 110% anymore...only the bare minimum...my boss is an asshat and I tell him all the time to his face that he's a douchebag and everytime I walk into the office I walk in yelling "only (blank) more weeks in this hell hole!!" no joke...lol jerk assclown boss....

anyway...IMHO we should start looking for a different place to meet. Mike, Jenn, the guy whose name I can't remember and I were the last people to leave around 10:30 PM and by then more than half the lot was infested with the "people that make us look bad". I would guesstimate about 30 cars from the "Krispy Kreme Crowd" took over our spot by the time we all left.

I am not happy about this at all there will be phone calls made. We have been meeting there for I don't know how long before I can onto the scene over a year ago and never has there be a problem. For the cops to say that we will not be able to meet there if they find trash, burnout marks, donut marks. ect. Makes me mad because it never happened in the passed with our group. grrrrr So like I said there will be phone calls made.

XBLOVE

:tap: I hope there are calls made and protests started....I felt it was really disrespectful for the cops to address us like that since WE have never been disruptive or disrespectful to that property....I hate the fact that these guys messed up and lost their other spot to meet now they are gonna get ours taken from us.......I know there is a lot of animocity from them towards us...so they are not going to be respectful to us

Tomas
09-13-2008, 07:32 PM
Sadly, I was not there for the "excitement" but I have e-mailed Tacoma's Chief of Police explaining the problem and asking who we need to discuss it with.

Don Ramsdell
Chief of Police
Tacoma, WA

Hi!

My name is Tom Losh, and I've been a resident of this area since 1946. Currently I live in University Place.

The reason I'm writing to you is to ask who we should contact at the Tacoma Police Department about being unfairly blamed for the actions of others, warned by several officers (4 patrol cars), and threatened with ejection from private property (Tacoma Place, 72nd and Hosmer) which we have the permission of the owner's representative to use.

A little background: We are a group of Scion owners with scheduled "Meet and Greet" gatherings around the Pacific Northwest. In western Washington we meet in Olympia the first Friday of each month, Vancouver the first Sunday, Tacoma the second Friday, Seattle the third Friday, Marysville the fourth Friday, along with other meets and events in the area.

(In fact we just had our fifth annual Scion gathering in Seattle, at the Qwest Field parking garage, with just over 350 Scions there. This is something we do. Scion Exposed 5 - Seattle was on Saturday, 06SEP2008, from noon to about 10PM.)

Obviously, not all of us meet at all locations, but some of us do meet at more than one of those locations every month.

In general we contact the property managers for the various parking lots we meet at and get their permission to use their property so long as we are well behaved, do not clog the lot or cause any difficultied for any other users, do not have loud music, drinking, aggressive driving, reving engines, burnouts, etc.

We agree to be civilized, deferential, quiet, and not leave any mess. We initially meet in parking lots because it is not just about the people, but also about the cars. As we usually say, "Meet at 8, eat at 9."

We have met at Tacoma Place, in front of Factory Direct Furniture, every second Friday since February 2007. Many of us then retire to one of the many local restaurants (not always the same one), some of us opt out and continue to chat in the parking lot, some of us go home.

In that time, a police car has often parked a hundred yards north of us and observed us for a while nearly every meet. We have NEVER had a problem in any way with the police or with the property management, we do not drive like idiots (more like the adults we are), and we never leave a mess.

Last night, we met as usual at 8PM, and had 31 cars at the M&G in Tacoma Place. As usual, a TPD car sat and watched us for at least 15 minutes between 8 and 9PM as we milled about greeting friends we hadn't seen for a while, looking at each other's cars, and all gathered in a large circle for introductions and club business.

Just after 9PM a number of us either went to Shari's or drove home, some of us remained in the lot chatting about community and club events and plans.

Some time later, a group of, excuse the term, "Ricers" in mostly loud older Japanese cars (the ones that sound like angry weed whackers) showed up, apparently having been kicked out of Tacoma Mall near the Krispy Kreme.

A short time later, four Tacoma Police cars showed up, gather our group together with the new arrivals and threatened all of us with permanent ejection from the premises if there were any burnouts, any tire marks in the parking lot, any reckless driving any trash, bottles, cans left in the lot, etc. The randomly combined group (Ricers and us) was told that we had caused problems and left a mess the previous Friday.

Excuse me, OUR group was not THERE the previous Friday, we were meeting in Olympia per the schedule that has been published without changes since January of 2007.

See: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=113744 and http://scion.meetup.com/30/calendar/ for schedules. Also see some pictures from our Tacoma M&G's (and other events) at http://www.flickr.com/photos/uuv_one/sets/

A polite and considerate group of adults meeting in the Tacoma Place parking lot with the property manager's permission was arbitrarily blamed, chastised, and threatened by your officers for no reason last night.

This is unacceptable, and needs to be addressed.

Who do we discuss this with?

WOW if I could write like that I would be a millionaire many times over......love the ricer part......I am angry at being profiled and not listened to by the officer......he was a punk in my opinion.......and would not listento anyone.......had it beena group of 31 Vettes there would never be an issue.......but since it is a group of imports it is assumed we burn donuts, smoke dope and drink, leave trash, and graffiti buildings, race onthe streets, and everything else.......

In reality we drive sexy Camry's and Yaris's.......same drive trane........just sexier.......well the Yaris is sexy on it's own.......but that is a differant story......

If this cannot be worked out we will start scouting for a location that offers restuarants and either a bar or lounge and a place that is safe to park and hang out.......

Thank you Tomas for the wonderful letter. I will follow up with both the Police Dept and the Property Management company on Monday. Please advise if you hear anything back on your end.

Cindy/Brian - Did either of you happen to get cards of the officers who were on scene?

I'm sorry that I wasn't there (was over at Shari's) but I tried to talk to Cindy about it as it was happening.

To everyone - ALWAYS be kind and professional. I don't think that anyone in our group would behave any less but I would say that giving a cop a hard time only makes things worse. Just let them know that we have permission and the other group doesn't.

Also, we will NOT be changing locations and here is why:
-It will lower turnout as in the past we have moved throughout Tacoma and rarely if ever had attendence been over 12 cars.
-It will cause confusion with all of the various places where the current schedule is posted and the flyers that are still around for distribution.
-We have permission and we didn't do anything wrong and leaving makes it seem like we did.
-We have previously moved all over the city and this one has the easiest freeway access, largest "open" lot, largest variety of restaurants, and is the only place that the property manager will allow us (other PMs will not condone us meeting in their lots).

I will get a letter in writing from the PM as to our ability to meet there and I don't want us to "run away" because of the bad influence or the cops. We are in the "right" and have permission to legally meet there.

BZinn1
09-13-2008, 10:06 PM
the only reason I think if it is not resolved is moving is the unneeded hassles we are gonna get month after month...the police do not see us as a club that has permission but just a bunch of imports causing problems......we have become generic intheir eyes.....

Maybe next time one of them parks a 100 yards off and starts watching us we should all jump in our cars and drive over to where he is and introduce ourselves...

(Forget I said that - he'd probably be yelling for reinforcements before we got half way across the lot.)

Tomas

Again, does anyone have an officer's business card, badge number, car number, license plate or pictures? It would help tremendously to have the information for AT LEAST one of the officers so we can more directly focus on the problem.

Lacking that, does anyone have an accurate time when they showed up so we can go by dispatch records?

There is absolutely no guarantee that the Chief (or his representative) will even respond, but at the very least we are on record as having brought it up.

If there is no response, I wonder how many folks will fit into the lieutenant's office at the 72nd street police substation? :D

Damn I wish I would have stuck around for this....I would have loved talking to the officer.
Not that I would have started any trouble for our group but still, we have the right to at least stand up for being in the right. Be nice if we had that PM's approval on paper with us the next time we meet up so that we may show the police that we have the right and that those "RICERS" should be kicked out and ticketed....well that mabye too much. :silly: wishful thinking.

Well I wont be there for the next meet as I will be out to sea but I'll be sure to stop by the chevron across the street and pick up some powdered donuts....and some protein bars.....hey you never know when We'll run into a physically fit officer these days.

Anyways I thought the meet was great. Only my second time being there and this turn out was awesome. Really thought everyone had some great mods.

Tomas is was great actually meeting you face to face. Also to everyone else I look forward to seeing you all again in the next couple of months.

Oh ya and one last thing, whoever that girl was who showed up in the blue lancer or whatever it was....damn fine. Trade that car in, get yourself a scion, and lets do lunch.

Let me add one more thing in here while I'm thinking of it.

It is the sort of mess the Krispy Kreme Ricers™ have caused at our current Tacoma Place meet point that makes us Instant Death if anyone IN OUR GROUP starts doing the loud music, loud engine revving, burnouts, squealing tires, reckless driving, or any similar attention-getting activities at any Scion events.

Recently there have been several instances where an individual associated with one of our gatherings has broken those rules.

In each case, it was brought up to them.

I hope those individuals fully understand that further breaking of our meet rules, and putting our meets in danger, would get them a request to leave. DO NOT be the one who spoils it for the rest.

Questions? ASK!

umm guy maybe we should invite the cops over to see we arent the trouble makers at our meet and greets. seems like a good idea. that way they know we are not at the location to race or even cause trouble. just sit around meeting new people catching up with old friends and showing off new parts we installed in our cars. maybe the parts thing is a little overboard. but you know what if they know why we do it. maybe they will leave us alone if they get to know the key people who are at the meets every month.

I poked at them again with this e-mail...

On September 13, 2008 I sent a quick e-mail to Chief Ramsdell asking for some basic information on who we needed to contact, and how to reach them.

To date we have received no reply or even acknowledgement of receipt.

Since it was directed to your e-mail address by the TPD site, Jeanette, do you have any info you can provide?

Thanks!

OK...

This just popped into my in box, and I thought I'd share it with you folks...

Mr. Losh,

My name is Lieutenant Bart Hayes. I am the swing shift commander here at TPD which means that for the most part I supervise all of the patrol officers that work the street from the hours of 1 PM to 11 PM. I received your complaint today regarding the gathering at the Tacoma Place.

In reviewing the complaint, it looks like the officers lumped you in with the “ricers” and blamed your group for the problems that they caused. While I am glad that our officers are actively patrolling these parking areas, I apologize for the fact that they threatened your group with being trespassed instead of only directing the warning to the other group.

I will address the swing shift officers at our daily briefing on Monday and advise them about your concerns. I will also advise the patrol Sergeants in that area to monitor the situation and let me know if there are any problems.

I hope this is satisfactory to you. Please feel free to contact me at the phone number listed below if you have any further concerns.

Sincerely,

T/Lt. Bart Hayes

Swing Shift Commander

Just to keep you informed, I responded directly to Lt. Hayes...

Lieutenant Bart Hayes
Tacoma Police Department

Thank you for your reply, sir! :o)

This incident has given us a renewed opportunity to discuss on-line on one of our forums (Which you or your officers are more than welcome to observe or participate in!) our strict rules on how we behave at these monthly meetings.

Our only problem with the incident last Friday night was being lumped with the "ricers" and being threatened with trespass actions when we were in no way involved.

So long as your folks patrolling the area recognize that not everyone standing in a parking lot is a bad guy we actually welcome their being there. :o)

We've considered in the past going over to the "watcher in the shadows" and introducing ourselves, but at the same time considered that the officer might feel threatened to suddenly have 30 cars he is watching headed his way. 8^O

Perhaps next time we meet there (second Monday next month, 8PM), the officer watching might want to drive over and introduce himself. We really don't bite, and would enjoy the visit.

Again, thank you very much for your response. We look forward to a closer relationship with the officers keeping our neighborhoods safe.

Take care,

Tomas
09-18-2008, 10:20 PM
Yup. That is one reason I included the invitation in my instant response to Lt. Hayes for his patrol officers to stop by and introduce themselves, and for us, in turn to introduce ourselves to them.

I feel that once the officers know and recognize us as individual real live human beings (and us them), the problems we might have could simply vanish.

In fact, if they regularly stop by and say hi, WE can help keep THEM informed of any problems WE have observed - and of course vice versa.

Heck, I'd even be happy to give him a Starbucks card for a cup of coffee and a doughnut... :D

That is so cool. Of course, I"m just curious...You dont think they would eventually give us tickets for the upgrades to our cars do you ? I mean I got pulled over the other day and the officer threatened to ticket me for having other exhaust than the standard factory exhaust. Course I guess they would have ticketed us already.

Tomas
09-20-2008, 08:14 PM
If there is a modification to one's vehicle that is unlawful, one can expect to be ticketed for it if an officer decides to.

Officers fairly often, though DO NOT know the actual laws, but only think they do, and ticket for things that are within the regs.

Those can, and should, be fought in court, but one should bring enough information from reliable sources to show the modification is legal.

Let's face it, folks, ANYPLACE a group of cars meets in public is going to get attention - we do already at every one of our meet points.

(This is but one reason we come down hard on attendees who race their engines, drive like squirrels, or play music really loudly - most folks with mods do NOT want to attract the attention of the officers lurking in the background, often just waiting for such an opportunity...)

Bottom line is that if you don't want a ticket that will stick, don't break the law... :)

(Heck, there are a couple of little twists in the otherwise stock appearing Vanilla that some officers might even decide to ticket.)

Tomas
